Where Do We Go From Here?

There isn't another player in this draft besides a QB that is worth those assets. Barkley is a special player...but he is a RB...no one is giving up that much for a RB who could very easily end up falling to you in the end.

Player value: QB #1, Pass Rusher #2, Pass Protector #3, Pass Defender #4....RB is somewhere way down the list...now someone as talented as him will transcend some of these positions...BUT...

You have 4 QBs that are arguably top ten talents
You have 2 Pass Rushers that are arguably top ten talents
You have 1 Pass Protector that is arguably top ten talent
You have 3 Pass Defenders (some say possibly 4) that is arguably top ten talent

That's ten players that, because of positional value, may push Barkley out of the top ten picks...

Not arguing about your player values. But wouldn't you agree that, when it comes to the draft, a specific team's positional player value is somewhat skewed by need?

Oh, absolutely, that's why I said he could easily transcend that list...but if you look at the past ten drafts, that is what the positional values look like. RB is not a highly valued top ten draft pick position. Teams believe they can get close, or even the same, value in the later rounds. That diminishes the positional value.

NOW, in Barkley's case, it isn't just his running dimension, he has an added receiver dimension AND he is apt at pass blocking so that isn't something they need to develop. He is a special case, just like there are others recently who were considered special cases. But, in none of those cases were one of them drafted #1 overall in place of a QB, especially when that team drafting #1 overall is in desperate need of a QB...So in the case of the Browns, Bills and Jets...If that is your #1, #2 and #3...I see NO scenario where it is anything but QB with the first 3 picks.

    I wasn't suggesting Barkly @ #1. I was talking about #4.

I also look at past drafts as periods in time where 32 separate teams all had different dynamics going on within them at the time of the draft and, as such, all had different needs and/or value perspectives when they made their selections.

  5. I thought u said NYG would trade down #3

  6. Agree if Buff trades up their taking QB

Somebody is going to take Barkley too high, BUT, they will be happy. So I suppose, his value is where he goes.

I agree that there are quality RBs in later rounds, but Barkley seems to be better than them.

Too high? Still more sensible than the Ricky Williams draft...

Or, John Dorsey realizes that there's an incredible amount of talent already on the Browns' roster (why would he take the job if there wasn't) and in fact did what he could to get that talent on the field in more situations - trading away Shelton to make room for Ogunjobi/Brantley.

What he did do was add some decent veteran depth to both bolster the roster and provide that missing leadership component (I think all but two signings have come from teams who made the playoffs).

    Mostly dopes.

The Jets were making sure to be out ahead of at least the Broncos.

Now, no matter how it shakes out they will have a crack at one of the top 3 arms on their board.

  11. There isnt an incredible amount of talent when you go 0-16...sorry no way around it...you can blame the coach, Kizer or whoever but talent should get you at least one win....now were a big fan of Brantley when you berated Cook months before the draft...lol

  12. So they dont have a guy in mind? They will take whatever is left? Seems like they gave up a ton to possibly not get their guy

  13. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

It's set up pretty brilliantly for the Browns to take their guy (Mayfield) at #1.

The Bills will happily jump the Jets to get their guy (Allen) at #2. The Giants get to move back to #12, but also pick up #22, #56, and probably a future second (or first).

The Jets will stay put at #3 and take their guy (Rosen), whom they likely want all along - the Mayfield rumors are just that.

The Browns, sitting at #4, will have the last "viable" QB on the board in Darnold. If they can't strike a deal, I'm 100% serious in that they should actually just draft him and then work out a trade with another team. I can't think of a QB that would more fit the Elway mold than Sam Darnold, so Denver would get their QB at #5 without even having to maneuver the board unless the Browns get a deal on while on the clock.

Yes, I'd love to take Chubb there, since he'd be available, but the trade-back scenario helps knock out some of the bigger needs on the team like cornerback and offensive tackle. A team like Miami or Arizona could easily move up from #11 or #15 (respectively) to #4. Browns would pick up a second and third this year and a future second (likely) in the deal.

Then your draft looks something like:

    #1 (CLE): Baker Mayfield, QB
#2 (BUF f/NYG): Josh Allen, QB
#3 (NYJ f/IND): Josh Rosen, QB
    #4 (MIA f/CLE): Sam Darnold, QB [Browns get #11, #42, and #111)
    #5 (DEN): Bradley Chubb, DE
#6 (IND f/NYJ): Saquon Barkley, RB
    #7 (TAM): Quenton Nelson, OG
    #8 (CHI): Denzel Ward, CB
    #9 (SFO): Derrius Guice, RB
    #10 (OAK): Tremaine Edmunds, LB
#11 (CLE f/MIA): Roquan Smith, LB

#21 (CLE f/BUF via NYG): Connor Williams, OT [with #11 trade, Browns give up #35, #64 to move up]

    #33 (CLE): Sam Hubbard, DE
#42 (CLE f/MIA): Carlton Davis, CB
    #111 (CLE f/MIA): Kyzir White, S
#114 (CLE f/GB): Equanimeous St. Brown, WR
#150 (CLE fGB): Duke Ejiofor, DE
    #175 (CLE): Ryan Nall, RB
#205 (CLE f/NE): Jordan Thomas, CB

You've said a lot of dumb stuff on these boards, but this might actually be the dumbest post you've ever had.

So, Sports Illustrated has the Browns as the favorite to draft Mayfield.

Pro Football Focus has had him mocked there for months.

Ron Jaworksi just came out and said Mayfield is the #1 QB in the class and "it isn't close".

For QB Danny Kannell thinks so:

Greg Cosell (on Mayfield): "I'm impressed with his film and if you love him, take him #1 overall."

  20. "IF".....Kanell,yes FSU, but not really good as a talent evaluator..hence Lamar Jackson top 5 lol
