That's a good pick, but the Texans took him in the fourth round.

 

Ah, you're right. When I searched "Sam" nothing popped up. What I failed to notice was that it said my search word was too small, not that there were no results...

 

The Tennessee Titans select: Matthew Thomas, ILB, FSU

 

Titans are OTC, Falcons are on deck.

The Saints are working a potential trade for their 6th round pick.

WR Keke Coutee, Texas Tech


Our new WR coach (acquired via trade) is going to be busy. Atlanta already had three WR prospects in the pipeline and two other younger receivers who could benefit from extra coaching attention. Adding Keke to the mix makes it a half dozen up-and-coming players for him to work with.

 

Nice choice, as long as your new WR coach can grow his route tree I think he'll be pretty good. (Adding a few pounds wouldn't hurt either)

 

He won't have to play anytime soon. The main question is whether we'd risk putting him through waivers to get him on the practice squad. For this mock I resigned Taylor Gabriel, and we obviously have Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu as our starters. So on my version of the roster, Keke would be competing with Justin Hardy, Nick Williams, Marvin Hall, Devin Fuller, Reggie Davis and whatever UDFAs come along for a spot on the back end of the roster.

That's why I tried to trade the pick. It's pretty much the same story in every position group.

 

Atlanta's draft fills in the Big Picture nicely, though it won't seem like much on its own:

1st = LB Rashaan Evans
2nd = traded for G/C Connor McGovern + 4th + 5th
3rd = CB Anthony Averett
4th = RB Nyheim Hines
4th (from trade) = TE Dalton Schultz
5th = traded by real team last year for OT Ty Sambreilo
5th (from trade) = traded for 2019 4th rounder
6th = WR Keke Coutee
7th = traded for WR coach Phil McGeoghan
7th (compensatory) = trade for TE Josh Perkins and CB Elie Bouka


Overall, I loaded up the roster with experienced players. Evans is the only drafted rookie who will have to contribute right away, and he has depth behind him if he struggles.

Most important move = signing DT Haloti Ngata to replace Dontari Poe, as I wasn't able to get my new NT in the 1st round. (I also signed Brandon Mebane, Phil Taylor and Sealver Siliga for depth in the DT group.)

 

I gotta make a couple calls so I will be back to post Green Bay and Jacksonville's picks around 12:30.
