The Perron-Haula-Tatar line had a Corsi for/against of 27/8 Their scoring chances for/against were 14/6

"Weirdest game I've ever been a part of in my career." -David Perron Said his line was -5 and he felt like they could have been +5. He was just flat out miffed by what had just happened.

Every playoff team is good in their own right, you have to beat the pens. Vasilevsky is slipping lately and that's not good going into april.
Too bad the leafs may never have a better team than this year, after they have to fit everyone into the damn cap. As good as they are, they still aren't built for the playoffs in the backend. They added marleau and plekanec, it might not be enough, doughty and nash would've put them over the top IMO.

Backes booted for a dangerous, dirty headshot not long after he returns from a prior suspension. My money would've been on it being Marchand. But there's a lot of game left...

Panthers are fired up... good game.

    Got the Leafs going too...

Not a game for the faint of heart.

These two hate each other. Condense all 4 games into the weeks before the playoffs, and you've got a recipe for some serious battles.

What a fucking shot by Tro.

Its amazing how one game its called one way and another game another way. Backes' hit looked like a hockey play. How do you not know where Backes is at that point?

the only possible violation i think is whether or not Trochek's head was the principle point of contact. makes playing hockey hard when you cant check a guy w/ the possession of the puck in the neutral zone, whether he has his head down or not is his own problem.

Yeah, in retrospect, I shouldn't have called it "dirty". That was inaccurate and uncalled for.

That said, I think it was called properly. He hit him in the head. The defender made no attempt not to hit him in the head, or not to hit him shoulder-on.

Also, make sure you watch that video with the audio off. Homer announcers never help a matter (we've all got 'em).

I've always said, the game has become so fast for the human eye at times.

    What we have are:

Infractions that are clearly not infractions, and suspensions were handed out on the basis of who was getting hit and who did the hitting.

A hit that where a player looked culpable but things happened so quick that he couldn't have avoided it. An innocent accident and it didn't appear that way.

A hit that was intentional and dirty by a player (ala matt cooke) that has a history of doing this. It's usually a player that's struggling to stay in the league and needs to do these things (unless his name is brad marchand).

I think this hit falls in the category of shit happens.

Bruins play by play man Jack Edwards is the worst. I truly mean worst.

Good points skinny. Officiating hasn’t been able to keep up to pace of play. I’ll say this though, officiating hockey games is much harder than it looks.

I can understand the Backes call because it looked like Trochek got hit in the head. The mistake made on that call was the match penalty given. Discretionary call from tough angles are tough.

I could watch that replay 100 times and still not come up with anything conclusive. The only thing conclusive is that it's a contact sport played fast and shit happens.

Its called because its Trochek. If it were Gudas or the likes, nothing happens.

Now wouldn't THAT be a fun competition? I'm not sure if Potvin is the worst, but damnit if he's not going to make someone work to beat him.

Now, if the refs are going to make a call based on a hit to the head like that, do they have to make it a match penalty? Is that a league-enforced kind of thing? I don't know, just speculating / spitballing.

I will dispute, however, that Trocheck gets that call because it's him. He gets that call because he got hit in the head at speed. Tro isn't afraid to mix it up, and there are definitely calls that don't go his way, believe me.

Match penalties are subjective and called when the refs thinks a player is deliberately trying to hurt another player.

Tough timing for Backes, he just got back from the first suspension or fine of his 12 year career. He gets tossed and they’re already down Bergeron, DeBrusk, McAvoy and Chara. Thems the breaks.

The Canucks could be the first ever hockey team to finish 31st, some competition still available.

Backes did hit Trochek in the head but Tro was lowering his body preparing to go for the puck. It was shit timing (for Backes) really. The refs were wrong, wrong, fucking wrong for calling a match-penalty though. And that's coming from a guy with a well-known spayshall kinda love for the br00nz.

I like David Backes. He and his wife are good dog-people.

The refs: I was bitching about those fuckwits during the Leafs gimme against TEH CHAMPS.
