Huh. I was just thinking this morning that it's been awhile since I've seen him post here. Hmm ... I was wrong. I see now that he was on the boards last night.
What the .... well thanks for nuthin' then Ev. Now what am I going to do with my day? LOL this makes me think of the time (years ago) when I thought I was the attendance officer for the Bears fans here. Remember when Bww went missing and I went into a meltdown? I even created a thread/search trying to find the lousy bastard.
Alright, kiddos. As far as I know, official Free Agency discussions can start today (though we all know they often happen earlier), but contracts can't yet be signed. Pace has held onto his draft capital, not partaking in any of the trades that have happened up to this point, but that means he's going to have to spend monetary capital, and in a big way. This team is riddled with holes, and starter-quality players are making more than ever. If Pace is real about his intent to build around Trubisky, and keep adding quality pieces to this team, he has a LOT of work to do. Some teams have been called crazy for buying in on the idea of a long-term rebuild. Look at Cleveland, who committed to a 5-year plan with their GM, and then dumped him when it was clearly not going well (some would argue otherwise, but I'd contend that they're wrong). Well, Pace has not only sold on the idea of a long-term rebuild, he's actually gotten the chance to do it, with a shiny new extension and everything. Well, we're getting awfully close to 5 years, Mr. Pace. Better make this year count...
Bills swap first round picks with the Bengals (#12 and #21) in exchange for LT Cordy Glenn. I mean... I would've taken that all day. I'm sure it would've taken a lot more finagling to get it right for both teams, but Cordy Glenn makes it well worth the time. Hypothetical: what if Pace doesn't believe that getting a new starting OT is a priority this offseason? Yeah, my heart just sunk, too.
Cordy Glenn can't stay on the field. He's missed a lot of games.....I like that move for Buffalo. They probably aren't done climbing the board....
The trick is to limit as much of reading through threads as you can. You'll agonize while you feel your brain cells crying for help--but they wont die. Let the scotch do that part. And so far tendering Meredith and Callahan were smart moves. Bellamy......fuck what does he have to do to get cut? Who in the hell does he have information on? The bears have herpes guys. Except by herpes I mean Josh Bellamy. I don't know what a Brady Sowell is. And so far with rumors? I've read/heard Cody Parkey, the dolphins' kicker and Philly's Trey Burton rumored to be on the bears' "wishlist." I presume one of Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins are priorities.....
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...expected-to-sign-wide-receiver-allen-robinson Hmmmm, well this is something to wake up to. Very little detail in this, but it appears the Bears are indeed in position to land Robinson. Not sure how much faith i'd have that Robinson ever pans out at whatever high price he costs, but Pace has to land receivers. Gotta give Trubisky as much support as possible.
Bears and Allen Robinson agree to terms. 3 years, 42 mil. 25 guaranteed. That's more than Alshon got, but I presume that's what had to be done. And the bears get prime years. AR is 24 going on 25, and will be 27 going on 28 when done.
Paid too much but we all knew they’d have to. Let’s hope that knee holds up, because if it does, we just got a potential franchise WR.
Meanwhile Sammy Watkins to the Chiefs on a 3 year, $48m contract with $30m guaranteed. I realize Robinson comes with more risk, but the Bears got the receiver with more upside for less money.
I hate this, I knew it was coming, and hope I’m wrong. VASTLY overpaying for a 1 year wonder (his only good year was 3 years ago) coming off an ACL tear.
If it makes you feel any better, the Chiefs just gave Sammy Watkins more overall and guaranteed money and he has never had more than 65 catches in a season.
They were gonna overpay any receiver they signed...that doesn't really bother me. The ACL concerns me. I don't think it's fair to call him a 1 year wonder. His 2016 season with a really inaccurate Blake Bortles throwing to him actually wasn't awful.
