Payne was easily my number 1 choice for mock purposes. I filled the DT group in last year's mock, but the real team didn't - so now I had to address it again this year.

But I didn't want to be forced to land an instant starter at any position. So I spent some cap and signed Haloti Ngata to join Grady Jarrett as the starters. I also signed Brandon Mebane, prospect Sealver Siliga, and comeback candidate Phil Taylor (if he can make it to training camp without tearing a hamstring) to round out the group.

They're all stop-gaps, so Payne was still #1 on my target list by far. But we like the speedy linebackers in ATL, and Evans will challenge for the starting WLB role plus take on the LEO pass rush role in certain packages.

Him I like a lot. Wish he’d run slightly faster at the combine. But it certainly didn’t scare me off him.
I like my Iowa guys a lot. And he aggressively plays both the ball, and the run. Nice grab Beach

I like Hernandez a lot.

 

I almost moved up for Evans (need) but when I looked at the board there were 4-5 guys I really liked. He was near the top.

 

That was Joe's suggestion. I opted to shake up the board a bit with a player that was connected to Carolina early on.

 

I think Hernandez to the Jagaurs is one of the best style/talent/need fits in the first round.

Unfortunately I doubt he makes it to us in the real one.

 

Some would consider him a steal. Nice job staying disciplined. It isn't always easy. Ask Munoz lol. He used to be a chronic trader, like for no reason.

 

Thanks. I traded Haden away because (1) I like Cam Sutton and (2) I felt like the Steelers were really top heavy and needed to get their cap in a better place heading into 2019. Having Jackson fall to me allows me to fill another need at free safety because I think Cam Sutton can make that transition.

He was the other name on my short list, since I had dropped Levitre to make cap room to sign Ngata.

 

Which was why I said my suggestion may snipe you.
