In real life a consortium doesn’t step in, but real GMs don’t miss the draft either.

 

If a team doesn't pick early he likely isn't going to ever pick at all. We can't just eliminate a team and have everyone pick sooner. We need to make the pick and move on. The teams afterwards are still picking when they should. Sometimes we let just 1 team pick early and THEN make the autopick. That is usually when we know a GM is active but we can't skip many picks like in the first few rounds.

 

The Vikings missed their pick once and the draft continued on without that pick in that spot. So, yes, real GM's have miised their pick.

Lyman we'd finish the draft with 2 or so teams never picking. We just can't have that. We've tried something similar before. It was a complete disaster. Don't worry though, later on in the draft you will notice we are skipping teams.

 

But if you read Joe’s response carefully, he said sometimes we let the very next team make a selection, and then autopick for the missing GM.

Can you imagine the integrity of our draft (real or not) if we got to pick 40, and had been missing a pick for the team at 24 the whole time? Unprecedented

 

The goal is to fill this exercise up with active owners that participate in every aspect. Each year we have added a couple more really good owners and in the process we have also had some people get involved, only to fade away.

Until we have it filled up with dedicated owners we will continue to make selections for those that join and don't see it all the way through.

 

Why not? That just means that the 30 teams who have put in the time don't have work around two teams that haven't.

This is true, but its not realistic that a teams entire front office would just go AWOL either.

 

All of the issues being discussed lately and brought to the forefront are healthy in my opinion. This is a growing exercise and will experience a few bumps along the way, but input and suggestions are a norm when something is in its early and growing stages.

I think Tim and the gang, along with the L4SN members are really making this as complete and interesting as possible and still allowing room for freekin' fun... and that's the bottom line.

 

TBH, I think absent owners are a bigger issue with free agency than the draft. Maybe everyone needs to be told that there's a requirement to at least log on every week or so or they risk being replaced?

 

Part of the problem is this is a fairly large commitment. Even if you tell people expect this to eat up time, and even if people are not crazy and just use PFF grades for FA and draft boards instead of watching buckets of film it still requires checking in a lot to manage the team properly. Finding 32 people who take that commitment seriously, and who don't have life get in the way of a fantasy land simulation, is tough enough as it is. Finding someone to fill in for a team they don't support mid stream is going to be even harder.

I am with you guys it stinks when the Mods have to auto-pick for someone. But it does seem to me like a reasonable way to handle it. They can't possibly know what a GM would have done but they can pick someone who makes sense and move on. This is going to be far more realistic than a team just picking early and less prospects flying off the board simply because a few GM's missed their draft slot. I like seeing guys go earlier than I would expect forcing me to take a second look at them. That to me is FAR less frustrating than the public bidding driving prices for Norwell to $20 million APY, but at least it prepared me for the giants missing out on him in real life as well...

More than what the Saints paid here and I wonder what that does with old cap money, if it's included in that or not.

My kids hate when they open the fridge and see it in there. That's about the only time they push me to drink. They don't want any of there friends coming over and seeing it, they get embarrassed.
