Man, I HOPE he is being serious!!

What are the Cards waiting for though? Are they hoping to get a trade for him? Sounds like they will be dropping him in a couple of days...I don't think the "legal tampering" works for players still under contract, lol.. I'm not sure why he has been throwing Tweets about Cleveland lately, unless he knows something though...Hope they aren't doing anything illegal.

You still didn't answer the question.

  3. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Yes I did. Yes, I care where Dorsey selects Mayfield. Then I outlined several reasons why.

  4. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

That'd be my guess. They already asked him to take a pay cut and I think have to make a decision by the second day of the new league year before his contract either guarantees or escalates... I forget exactly. Either way - decision time coming for them soon.

Probably trying to squeeze a pick out of Dorsey but he's clearly not budging on those first five.

If Cleveland passes on Barkley at #1 there are still going to be a lot of suitors for picks #2 and #3 in an effort to draft Saquon.

I don't see a scenario where the Browns get them both unless they trade up from #4 to #2.

  6. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Yikes. I can almost hear his ACL snapping in the upper NY state cold:

Imagine being a Bills fan for a moment... your organization has been trying like hell to drive out a competent NFL QB (Taylor) because he's either too small, or not explosive enough in the passing game, or not a "Super Bowl type" QB... despite never having given him weapons to work with.

You've marched through a laundry list of QBs nearly as on par with the Browns' menagerie of trash. And now, finally after moving on from Taylor, your QB to start the 2018 season is... Sam Bradford?

I assume, #21 and #22 will be packaged (possibly with Cleveland, after the initial prime pump trade) to get to #4 and pick a rookie to sit behind the bag of check-downs, busted shoulders, and broken knees that is Sam Bradford.

In the GM Mod Exercise we are running right now, I took Barkley 1st and Mayfield 4th, but that's only because I know how these things go and QBs do not get their perceived value in the mocks around here.

I could EASILY see the first 4 picks of this draft being QBs. I just hope the Browns take my guy Mayfield...

    1. Baker Mayfield Browns, I like Tyrod for the short term, but he would NEED lots of help to win a SB, he can't lead us there.
    2. Josh Rosen Giants, Manning is almost done, need to get one groomed
    3. Josh Allen Broncos -Trade
    4. Sam Darnold Jets - Trade
    5. Bradley Chubb Colts
    6. Saquon Barkley Browns

There will be trade talk from ALL ANGLES on draft day....The Cards and Bills will be the subject of trades all day long...That is all assuming Drew Brees re-signs with the Saints and Kirk Cousins signs with the Vikings of course. But, I don't think any of the other available QBs would preclude drafting one by any of these franchises.

Man... those who don't learn from recent history are doomed to repeat it, I guess.

Ezekiel Elliott was the #4 pick. He had a lot of success as a rookie in an offense that several running backs have enjoyed success in. In fact, his dominant rookie season was not nearly as impressive as some of DeMarco Murray's during his time there. In retrospect, Dallas should have picked the player *everyone* mocked to them - Jalen Ramsey (cue @showstopper with some asinine comment related solely to the DB here).

Leonard Fournette was the #4 pick. Ahead of him went a generational defensive end (Garrett), a development QB (Trubisky), and a hybird athlete playing DT (Thomas). In a QB class that was widely-hated, Trubisky went ahead of Fournette.

Yes... Barkley is a talented, top-notch player. How will he grade out on teams' boards against the likes of Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bradley Chubb, and the quarterbacks? Even if he *is* the #1 player... how often to running backs go #1, #2, or #3?

    #1 - 1995 (Ki-Jana Carter)
    #2 - 2005 (Ronnie Brown)
    #3 - 2012 (Trent Richardson)

    Not exactly "elite" company...

Number of times front offices helmed by a Dorsey, Highsmith, or Wolf have taken a running back in the first round?

    Zero.

So, in your opinion, the player that is considered the top prospect in this draft class is not in play with one of the top 3 picks?

Yes. Especially this year and especially because the player happens to play a devalued position.

    How could I have forgotten?

    #2 - 2006 (Reggie Bush)

Really only supports the argument still.

Ok, just wanted a clarification for future discussion when we get closer to the draft.

You also believe Baker Mayfield is a lock in the top 4?

I think he is in play, but draft capital goes a long way in this. Much depends on the Giants feelings about Manning also, imho.

If the Giants want his replacement believing they will not be in this position again..then I think Barkley has a much higher probability of being there at #4 than Mayfield does.

I can easily see a scenario where QBs go 1,2,3 rather than QBs not getting picked in the top 5.

This is a unique class in that the experts all have different guys rated as the #1 overall pick. The guy with the most votes, Darnold, is #3 on many experts list, some have him 4th. There are 4 guys in this class that have everyone talking..All 4, imho, will be gone in the first 7 picks.

The rest of the draft has to do with perceived value. As SAS has already noted, whether Barkley is perceived as the best prospect in this draft or not, there are two things working against him.

    1. RB is not perceived as a premium position. It has gained more steam recently, but not to overtake QB, pass rusher, LT or even DB.
    2. RB is the deepest position in this draft as far as quality is concerned. There are only a few quality pass rushers and even less safeties. If a team is in need of a RB and a pass rusher (let's face it, who isn't in need of pass rushers?) then Chubb gets the call imho. Same with defensive backs...Fitzpatrick can fill your need whether it is CB or S, none compare to him on either level in the second round...but there can be arguments for a few RBs that can get you production that should be available.

I certainly don't want to pass on Barkley...I want him badly...but at the end of the day, I would not be surprised in the least if the Browns took their QB at #1, had Barkley available at #4 and he still wasn't the pick. I would be disappointed, but I certainly would understand why...

47 combined years of draft experience between those three.

    27 running backs taken.

14 drafts without addressing the position.

146 - average draft position of running back taken (roughly early fifth round).

    Running backs by round:

    1 - 0
    2 - 2
    3 - 6
    4 - 5
    5 - 6
    6 - 3
    7 - 5

No, imho, but I do think he is a lock for the top 6.

    I do.

I continue to have him at #1 (both in terms of talent, and mock draft status). I think teams think highly enough of Rosen and Mayfield that those are likely the top two guys. Darnold probably slides into the Top 4 picks as well, but that's still a reach for me. Scouts seem to have a much higher opinion of Darnold than GMs/coaches seem to. It makes sense... Darnold is "safe" and if your job is dependent on you producing safe picks for your team, I get going there.

@IrishDawg42 has said it before and while I think it *might* be a stretch, I also have to remember I have an extremely low opinion of Josh Allen. If some team falls in love with him, he could be gone in the Top 4 picks, too, and we'd have four QBs off the board right away.

Obviously, free agency will give us some clarity and I expect Minnesota to sign Kirk Cousins... but the Jets, Cardinals, and Dolphins are all eyeing a trade up to select a QB. The Colts have foolishly decided to go with Luck. The Giants *seem* to be favoring a run with Eli, but that's a below-average team and that a could very well be a smoke screen.

This draft is WAY up in the air still...

I could easily see a scenario where Mayfield AND Barkley are still on the board at #4...If we draft another QB at #1

Just tying some rumors together...Does anybody think we might have a Corey Coleman for Tyrann Mathieu trade at some point soon?

That could make some sense! I think they would still want a late round pick as well...we haven't traded our 7th rounder yet have we, lol?
