Alright, Skinny, it's time to reign it in again.
We both know those numbers are well exaggerated. And we both know that bug FA signings hasn't been what's gotten either Florida team to where they are.

If you can provide me an example of this working to an unfair, if any, advantage for any Florida team in any sport, we'll talk. But as a South Florida fan, I haven't exactly seen a glut of winning teams, let alone those benefitting from some unfair loophole.

Whatever you're drinking tonight, Skinny, put it down.

On an unrelated note... Panthers win a thriller in dramatic, shootout fashion over NYR. Gotta give the Rangers credit, they played a hell of a game. Florida has the most dense stretch of any team prior to the playoffs, and they don't get to take one of them off... If they can keep this up once the playoffs start, this is a dangerous team.

So I go to the auto parts store, that my pc says has the part in stock. It is an OEM part so I know it fits. The clerk says they no longer stock said item. My day is shot, so I go to my local sports bar and watch the philly/peg game. The guy next to me has a #48 nascar hat on. How was I to know he knew philly hockey. Dude really knows his phlyer shit. He really proved his metal at the end of the game when (I think it was manning) slashed Little and he said he should be suspended. I like hockey fans.

A priest and a rabbi are sitting next to each other on a plane. They're both quiet and minding their own business when the priest says, "So, is it a fact that your religion forbids you to eat pork?" The rabbi nods and says, "Yes, that is true. It is forbidden." The priest then asks, "Have you ever broken the rule?" The rabbi again responds, "Yes. Oh yes, once I ate a ham sandwich." They both smile and nod. The rabbi then says, "Is it true that you must practice celibacy?" The priest replies, "Yes. That is a rule we must follow." The rabbi follows with, "Have you ever been tempted by the flesh?" The priest nods and says, "Oh yes. I once had a physical relationship with a woman." They both nod and smile. Then the rabbi says, "Beats the hell out of a fucking ham sandwich, right?"

It's really not that complicated, the take home pay is higher in florida. A florida team has more room in their cap. They could pay out a salary of $9M against the cap, another team would have to pay $10M to $11M to match the take home pay.

This has helped tampa a lot in retaining players like stamkos, and helps keep their team at the top.
Of course, the panthers aren't on the same level as the lightning, thanks in part to the dumbass at gm there.

This is a tax state calculator, you could punch in the numbers. The preds are at par with the lightning and panthers, the california teams and rangers have it the worst of all american teams. The canadian teams are in the same boat, plus the canadian dollar exchange is another factor for smaller market teams like ottawa and calgary.

Here's another advantage with the new tax laws passed.

    https://www.thestar.com/sports/2017...ay-attract-athletes-after-tax-law-change.html

“The new U.S. tax law, in particular the loss of miscellaneous itemized deductions, will have a significant impact on NHL hockey players,” said hockey agent Allan Walsh.

This tax state calculator is outdated when it comes to crunching numbers against Canadian teams. The overall federal tax went down to 37%, which means an extra 2.16% advantage on the canadian clubs. On $10M, that's an extra $216k a year in savings.

On a $10M salary, the leafs would have to pay him $11.62M just to match the take home pay, how is that a fair system?

This is in regards to florida teams.

State tax laws. There are 50. There's one Fed. tax law. You're too facile in conflating them in your examples.

State tax laws are not changed much. Why aren't all pro athletes playing for Florida teams already? They've had a few decades to take advantage of those discrepancies.

Pro athletes like in baseball, have no salary cap, teams will just pay the extra without worrying about cap space. In hockey, if you're competing for a free agent against (Tbay, panthers, vegas, preds, seattle) they're at a clear advantage. If an $8.5M cap hit is $10.12M for the leafs or rangers, then they're much better off.

In the case with stamkos, he was offered $8.5M, the leafs would've needed at least $11M to pry him away, then have to worry about signing future players.
