I'm glad I crack you up. everyone said they wouldn't contend this year. no shit. when you're counting on a ton of youth to carry you over the veterans and add no one at the trade deadline you are a wannabe pretender. and 1 win since the trade deadline Will, so you can laugh all you want. Any chance at winning a playoff round went out the door when Hextall sat on his fat ass and didn't do anything at the deadline to make the team competitive or better. And next year, they will add more youth to the roster. Is Giroux really the veteran leader to lead them to a playoff contender? Can he be the leader they need like they had with Pronger after disposing of drinking buddies Carter and Richards ? Who knows. The team has holes and flaws and Hextall didn't address them via trade. Does he really think the youth coming is going to fix every hole and flaw with this team ? He better because after losses to Tampa and Boston, as they played well, but are not in the same class as team as they are. It's not even close.

By the way, did you know Giroux, Voracek, and Coutier are in the top 10 scoring categories in the entire NHL?

Gostisbehere, Simmonds and Konecny arnt chumps either. Those guys are the heart and soul of a pretty talented team.

Flyers are 3rd in the Metro with 79 points, 4 up on the #2 Wildcard.

In Goals For, the Fly are 12th in the NHL. They seem to be in good shape too me. Just because they have been sliding lately doesn't mean shit to me... I think they will be ok.

Did you see how the Flyers came out against Boston? They owned them early on, very impressive, but you cant win them all and Boston, in my opinion, is in the top 5 overall of the NHL.

OK, you bring up Hextal. When you needed a goalie, what did he do? Whats wrong with the youth movement also? The entire NHL is using their affiliate systems to benefit the parent club. Its nothing new... in fact you've got a good group of youngins mixed with veteran leadership. Hextal is no miracle worker and has put together a team that has exceeded my personal expectations for the season. Ask yourself this; Have they not been better than the picture you painted in the preseason?

79 points, 3rd in the Metro... ya, their a shithole club.

Not a good time to be a gm now, I cringe when the leafs have to start paying the big 3. Then have to cut players like jvr and bozak, all because of the cap.

Flyers are in much better shape right now than they were when Hextall took over.

If Matthews has a big playoff you’re looking at McDavid money. Marner and Nylander have earned theirs too.
Any kids in the farm that could replace Jvr or Bozak in the next couple seasons?

They have Andreas Johnson and Timashov, that's about it for now.

    Do you like those 2?

The Panthers keep winning, and somehow their competition keeps winning too. Keep at it, boys - Columbus and New Jersey can't keep it up forever. Malgin and Vatrano should be back healthy sometime in the next few weeks, the latter skating with the team for the first time.

Johnson looks like the sure bet, he's putting up the numbers. Timashov came highly regarded and looks like he's doing ok. It's way to early to judge how they'll do up here. I wouldn't mind if Johnson could score 20 to 25 a year and be a better checker than jvr.

Losing bozak is no big deal, he's easily replaceable, I wouldn't want to lose kadri, and I hope leo won't ask for anything unreasonable.

Will - when I see other teams stars they scare me on the ice as they can change any game and bust it wide open or clamp down a lead. Kane and Toews. Crosby, Malkin and TEH PHIL, Kreji and Bergeron, Stamkos and pick anyone. does jake, Giroux and Coots really scare anyone? No. Unlike the guys I mentioned, they don't take over key games when needed. They don't step up as leaders. They contribute. The others can take over a game and the team leadership. I still think they need a big veteran leader like Pronger was to take over leadership of this team. Giroux is a solid player, but I don't think he's Captain material.

I can't find the stat, but I'm sure the Flyers are in the top 3 in allowing a goal with under 1 min left in a period and probably first in allowing a goal in the last min of the 3rd period.

and Will, if you saw what other Flyers are saying, I am not in the minority here. It's all non-Flyers fans that see a nice turnaround this season, light in the tunnel and maybe a playoff spot. Flyers fans see a lot of stirring and moves, but really not close to contending with the NHL elite. And I didn't say they were a "shithole club," so don't put words in my mouth. I called them a "pretender!"

The flyers were about to give up on their season about the same time the blues looked like worldbeaters. I remember they were playing the leafs and I was talking about how I wouldn't mind Simmonds coming over to the leafs.
    Big turnaround and shows character.

After a 9 year absence from the nhl, gordie howe was back as a hartford whaler in boston. Most notable in this game is that he was on the same line as both mark and marty for a couple of shifts.
