Oh I knew they still had time. If you add when you are already over the cap you must have some deals in place already or you know who you are cutting. Deal makes sense for Philly less so for Seattle who may also be moving on from Sherman. So no Bennett already and possibly no Sherman and Chancellor and Avril may not step back on the field going to be a drastically different Seahawks defense next season. Looks like the Seahawks may be moving closer to the bottom of that division than the top in expectations next year.

Eagles gotta be shopping Ronald Darby IMO. He may be cheap now but he may be worth near the Franchise Tag amount next year. Some team may want him cheap this year and with a chance to get an extension or slap the tag on at worse.

"The funny thing about the draft picks the Eagles swapped with Seattle is that they acquired that fifth rounder from the Matt Tobin trade last summer. The Eagles gave up Tobin and a 2018 seventh-round pick in exchange for Seattle’s 2018 fifth-round pick.

In other words, the Eagles gave up Johnson and Tobin for Michael freaking Bennett.

Howie Roseman does it again, folks."

The thing about the Bennett contract is that it's only $1.65M plus a per game roster bonus. I don't believe the rest counts towards the cap right away outside $2-3M so the Eagles can wait until the season to clear the rest if they really have to.

Bennett played every game this year, my understanding is that means basically the reverse of that is true...it inherently means his weekly roster bonuses are considered "likely to be earned" and thus count against the cap in full from the start of the league year, and would only come off the cap if he doesn't play in a given week.

Why are the Seahawks getting rid of BENNETT? Especially for nothing, they should have just cut him, they got screwed. BENNETT is a bonified pro bowl player

Well either way they'll figure it out. essentially they really wanted Curry's cap space reinvested at DE. I am even more curious at wtf they are going to do now.

It's a low asset and cap space year like this that I am so glad we drafted Sidney Jones in the 2nd round last year.

I'm asking bc I don't know - isn't the cap going up next season? when do the eagles and all teams be under the cap? by the close of this season ? well brent celek says he won't retire - well then he's cut as they don't need him either. there's money. they were saying will other players take a restructured deal? well if not, I'm sure they will be cut too. Eagles have moves to make and draft picks to sign after the draft. Some players got to go. Hey, you get your SB ring, so thanks for the Title.

Why are teams trading these players? They are good players under team favorable contracts and they are getting low value in return.

Bennett for a reject WR and a 5th, might as well just cut him

    Alec Ogletree for a 4th , WTF

Ogletree for a 4th? Was he bad in the locker room or something? Thought he had a pretty good year.

    I guess it is a 4th and a 6th (2018).

    From NFL.com...

Ogletree signed a four-year, $42 million contract extension in October.

The speedy linebacker compiled 231 tackles and two sacks the past two season in L.A. Still just 26 years old, Ogletree is a massive upgrade for a mediocre Giants linebacking corps that lacked speed and playmaking ability at the second level. Ogletree brings both to New York.

The latest trade marks a busy few weeks for Rams general manager Les Snead. L.A. also agreed to acquire corner Marcus Peters from the Kansas City Chiefs and will ship pass rusher Robert Quinn to the Miami Dolphins.

Rapoport added the Rams offered Ogletree to the Chiefs as part of the Peters deal, but they declined.

L.A. shedding salary-cap space with the Ogletree and Quinn trades comes as no surprise as the Rams have a bevy of budding stars that need to get paid, including Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald.

Why didn’t the Steelers go after Ogletree? We need a ILB desperately.
