Out of curiosity, I wanted to see what others thought of Ade Aruna, so I checked a few draft sites.. He scored a 5.2 (late rd projection) at NFL.com.... Walter gives him a 4th to 6th round projection....I didn't see him even listed on Draftek's top 400 or at Draft Geek, so we'll see if his impressive Combine numbers have an effect on his rankings.... Or get him recognized at all on some of these sites...
Me, an intellectual: "Baker Mayfield was impressive at the Combine, re-affirming my belief in him as the top QB prospect." @showstopper: "Wrong! Josh Allen was the best in shorts. Huge Combine by him. Everyone says so." Me, an intellectual: "Jaire Alexander had an excellent Combine and lifted himself to top CB in my eyes." @showstopper: "Ur falling for the running in shorts again"
Interesting, looking at the mock drafts at NFL.com, and of their seven "experts", only Bucky Brooks sees WR Courtland Sutton going in the first. Maybe I wasn't being crazy in my Browns mock. lol!.....Most all of them see Christian Kirk as a first rounder though....Also six of the experts see the Browns taking Sam Darnold #1, with one saying Josh Allen will be our pick. For the record, these were pre-combine, and there is only really one on the panel that can truly call himself an expert.... Charley Casserly thinks we will take Darnold and Fitzpatrick.
Seven out of seven "experts" see the Browns drafting critically incorrectly at the QB position. The same seven "experts" also see a 100% chance of me drinking bleach if that happens. This QB class is Mayfield *insert HUGE drop-off*, then Rosen *insert insurmountable drop-off*, then Lamar Jackson in the right offensive system and with the right coach. This next line isn't hyperbole and I'm not joking... Darnold and Allen are undraftable. Darnold is especially disappointing after that Combine where he showed up as a poor athlete.
If Joe Thomas retires, use his caponey to sign Nate Solder. It would be a drop off, but not a catastrophic one.
PFF.com Mock Draft Version 3 @showstopper I've lost count at this point... eight? Nine? PFF has had three mock drafts and he's been the top pick each time. Contrast that with your buddy Mel Kiper or Walter Cherpinski who find a new flavor of the week each version. *cue @showstopper's usual tripe - 'stats mean d*ck', 'that site sux', 'pff is for bums', 'i personally hate mayfield'* @showstopper:
Yes I was perplexed on this...he led the nation in Ints as a Soph...maybe he will turn into Sherman part 2
Whew... just think how excited Sashi is looking at this: Thanks, Sashi Brown! #NeverForget #TheHeroWeDeserve
Post-Combine Browns Mock (mostly for @showstopper) [Using Composite Grades from Fan Speak Mock Draft Simulator, # indicates composite overall ranking] 1-1: Baker Mayfield, QB Oklahoma (#13) Game-breaking, franchise-changing, paradigm-shifting quarterback with the attitude to lift this moribund franchise from worst to first... all within the time frame of his rookie deal. It will only be a matter of time before he supplants projected 2018 starter, A.J. McCarron (Cincinnati). 1-4: Saquon Barkley, RB Penn State (#3) Premier defensive talent and potential franchise quarterbacks will drive Barkley down the board, but he is easily the best skill position player in the draft. A perfect running back specimen who can carry a team... just not to a Super Bowl. 2-33: Jaire Alexander, CB Louisville (#27) The speed, explosiveness and personality of a premier cornerback, Alexander can learn behind potential free agent signees Kyle Fuller (Chicago) and Trumaine Johnson (Los Angeles), allowing Jason McCourty to move to free safety. 2-35: Sam Hubbard, DE Ohio State (#47) Considered by many to be a "limited athlete", he lines up nearly identically to fellow Buckeye Joey Bosa in testing. Hubbard is a solid, traditional 4-3 DE who could play behind either Ogbah or Garrett. The loss of Ogbah last season was evident. 2-64: Mike Gesicki, TE Penn State (#69) Somewhere between TE1 - TE3 for some folks, he has the frame, speed, and ball skills to be WR1 in this class. Knocked for his lack of blocking ability, put him on the perimeter and let him out-run, out-jump, and out-muscle smaller defensive backs. 3-65: Anthony Miller, WR Memphis (#70) Explosive athlete who performs well in the deep-passing game, tracks the ball well, and is capable of creating some misses with the ball in his hands. In a draft without any clear-cut WR1, the Browns could opt to fill in the slot receiver positions. 4-101: Brian O'Neill, OT Pittsburgh (#111) Versatile tackle who played at a high level at both left and right sides. If Joe Thomas comes back, he could threaten Shon Coleman for starting time on the right side. If Joe Thomas does indeed retire, he could step in and perform better than Spencer Drango. 4-123: Shaquem Griffin, LB Central Florida (#197) Unbelievable that he'd still be available here - or ranked this low. Griffin impressed at the Combine, played lights out for two seasons as a starter at UCF, and brings more of that much-needed attitude to this team. 5-138: Jessie Bates, FS Wake Forrest (#143) Even with McCourty (in this scenario) moving to free safety, there's really no depth at the position and Kai Nacua is a reservist at best. Immediate special teams presence with long-term starter potential. 5-159: Skyler Phillips, OG/C Idaho State (#193) Versatile lineman who adds value at tackle and guard in a 'swing' role. He's a big guard with strength to beat his man. He won't be asked to play left tackle. 6-175: Mike White, QB Western Kentucky (#183) Throw in a developmental QB who understands playbooks and defenses and gives McCarron a running-mate on the sidelines once Mayfield takes over. Bonus: get to cut DeShone Kizer immediately. 7-219: Bilal Nichols, DT Delaware (#271) High-motor defensive tackle with plus athleticism. Rotational guy for a solid front.
Browns buzz on Saquon Barkley, Baker Mayfield, Nick Foles, and more as they leave the NFL combine http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2018/03/browns_buzz_on_saquon_barkley.html#incart_2box
