SI's Bruce Feldman spoke to one NFL QB coach who said UCLA QB Josh Rosen was the "sharpest" of all prospects he met with at the position. "He was very impressive. He knows football inside and out," the position coach told Feldman. Every team will have a different feel for this quarterback room as personalities and styles mesh and others conflict. More information like this will continue to come out following the Combine.
Zampese: You know we’re drafting you at #1 overall, right? You don’t need to keep showing off. Mayfield: F**k that. I’m going to bury these other guys.
His play in shorts today and in his upcoming pro day are probably going to sucker somebody into overspending. Everything still points to Darnold as the first overall pick, but Allen helped himself out today. Rosen, Rudolph, Jackson, and Falk all underwhelmed, especially Falk who may have found a new method for tanking your stock at the combine. Everyone else was probably close to what was to be expected. Shimonek spun it pretty well today. Ultimately, the combine doesn't affect how GMs view passers much. Makes for good conversation though.
Falk was bad all around, but Jackson at least had moments where the arm talent was on display. The sum total of the day was bad for Lamar, but he didn't push himself off the cliff like Luke did. I'm not sure what JT's future will be. I hear Vince McMahon is hiring in 2020?
But sure, let’s pass on the best QB prospect since Cam Newton because he is short and grabbed his crotch on video once.
I really like Josh Allen as a project but not as anyone ready to play in the next season. I cant justify taking him in the 1st unless I am a team that already picks late that has a QB in place and have a great QB coach that loves him. Like New England. He needs a whole season and offseason(draft year is short for rookies) with the team IMO before I'd know where he is as far as being ready for meaningful game time.
That's exactly where I come down on Josh. He's going to end up with a score that probably puts him somewhere around #5 on my rankings but his physical potential is easily near or at the top of this class of arms. Quickly reflecting on this seasons scores - It looks like my final numbers for the passers in this class will have all of them coming in with less of a total than Patrick Mahomes had last season. I think there will be one or two that will be right there with Mitchell Trubisky, but it looks like Pat's number is already out of reach.
I think Trubisky will be a stud if and when Chicago gives him something to work with.... Maholmes is the guy to watch out for. I think he will be spectacular. Andy Reid and the Chiefs know what they got, or they never would have dealt Alex Smith....I can't wait to see how good Patrick Maholmes is in 2018.
