Luck is a beast...not sure what he did wrong for people to dog his talent...he's been hurt...give me Luck over Cam anyday
Manziel could have had 11 1/2 hands and I still would have put him in the same spot, lol. If you look at some of the smaller guys that have good success there is a bit of a correlation with regards to hand size - Brett Favre - 10 3/8 Russell Wilson - 10 1/4 Drew Brees - 10 1/4 I'm not saying that it rules anyone out or that it's a deciding factor (for my personal rankings) but GMs definitely look at these things in the light of, "with all the information available I not only have to make the right decisions, but the decisions that look right in order to keep my job.".
Since 2011 huh? Here's mine: 1. Andrew Luck 2. Baker Mayfield 3. Johnny Manziel 4. Deshaun Watson 5. Teddy Bridgewater
I can understand the argument for considering him at #1 but I don't see that 'can't miss' prospect that some people see.
No one is can't miss, and I personally am not claiming he is...MY personal thought is that no other candidate is close to his overall skill set. I really don't think they are even close... But, every one of these prospects may fail in the NFL, this league chews you up and spits you out.
I seem to remember plenty of QB discussions where hand size was the eliminating factor Doesn't change that I do think Mayfield is the best of this years class. Spoiler Rudolph is my #2. Rosen is at best a 2nd round talent. and Darnold is undraftable and should have went back to school.
That's about as close to 'can't miss' as you can get without saying the words 'can't miss', lol. I get what you're saying. I just don't have that kind of grade on Mayfield, but I think this QB class is very interesting because of how much of a mixed bag it is at quarterback in regards to their individual skill sets. I agree that Baker is a bit of a 'do all', but our difference is how we view the individual aspects of his game transferring to the pro level. Cold, hard truth of the draft.
He's won a National Championship, throwing a team on his back....He's won an NFC Championship and came within a gnat's eyelash of a SB win... This is my opinion. I wasn't looking for a debate. The names were brought up, and I gave my opinion. I don't think Cam has ever been intimidated in his life, and I don't think he's ever set foot on a football field where HE didn't think he was the best player...The dude is a confident leader, and a physical freak like the NFL has never seen at QB... Just shut your pie hole...If u lik A Luk, Gud fer u.
As far as assigning grades to the players. Mayfield gets my highest grade. Never liked Luck... I'll die on that hill. I thought Cam Newton would revolutionize the game - and I hated him when he was at Auburn.
The only "can't miss" prospect of the last 30 years (Andrew Luck) missed. There's no such thing as "can't miss". Baker being the best QB prospect for me since I started really diving into this stuff isn't about him being bullet-proof... it's about him having the desirable traits, production, etc. to become the best QB out of anyone. That is hugely dependent on things like his coaches, situation, development, injuries, off-field stuff... the list goes on and on. Quenton Nelson looks "can't miss" but all it would take is a patella tendon tear in training camp to end his career before taking a single regular season snap.
