This one is interesting, wings trade tatar to vegas for 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders, spread out over 3 seasons.

Un - real... Kenny is out of his mind. He hasn't traded Greene , but dumps Tatar. He's blind and trying to pin the tail on the Donkey.

On the books for the next 4 years at $5.3M and having an off-year. They free up the cap space and look to add on july 1st.

Crazy how Vegas is set for the next forever. Just toss some of that extra ammo for a Vet for a cup run.

More questions than answers, why not try to re-sign Kane? A 30 goal scorer in a league where goals are hard to come by.

Digging deep here, wgr550 deep for any theories or explanations.

Kane is a hard partier, he's taking players down that road as well, jack being one. Whats bad for jack, is bad for the sabres.

Kane now goes to a team of established vets like jumbo joe and burns. He's basically on his own there, he'll have minimal influence on the core.

McDonagh and JT Miller traded to tampa for namestinikov a 1st rounder and two prospects.

Yeah, I'd say there was about 3 big deals today.

Hot damn there was some real action today.

I cant believe Tartar landed a 1,2, and 3. I think Holland made out like a bandit on that one. Shocked Greene didnt get dealt and understand why that would piss Will off.

McD going to TB makes them the best team in the east but they paid a heavy price.
in that trade, why swap Miller for Namestnikov? similar ages, stats, and both upcoming RFAs.

Stastny makes too much, I dont blame StLouis for getting out form under that.

Tommy Wingels your 2018 Conn Smythe winner!

id assume that Kane wants to hit the market instead of re-signing with a last place team........ no offense to Sabre fans.

    I agree, tampa is loaded.

I was listening to botts explanation, he said that they were moving him to make room to sign other players, plus, what they had wasn't working. Bohp, spin, if you ask me.

Jason Botterill had no choice but to accept the San Jose Sharks' offer for Evander Kane.

    It was the only one.

"We had one legitimate offer for Evander," the Buffalo Sabres' general manager said Monday.

Buffalo acquired two draft picks and a prospect from the Sharks in exchange for Kane, a pending unrestricted free agent who had 20 goals and 40 points in 61 games with Buffalo. The top pick will be a 2019 first-round selection if Kane re-signs with the Sharks or the team wins the Stanley Cup. Otherwise, it will be a second-round pick in 2019.

"It was a difficult market for rentals," Botterill said in KeyBank Center.

I blame a lot of this on botterill, he played his hand like a rookie. You never make a demand like that with no other card to play. I think a lot of this was gms teaching the kid a lesson.
The more time went by, the more you could see him getting painted into a corner. A gm giving into his demands would've been looked at as weak around the league by his peers. A gm that took him to town on the other hand, would be looked at like a sign of strength.

Who ended up being the big fish in the tartar sauce deal?

Just an opinion, but the question entails two time frames. As of right now Vegas wins hands down, Tatar will be a nice fit there and will produce under that scheme. Getting a solid player that can play all over the ice, including Center, left and right wing with the ability to score is ideal for Vegas. Vegas just paying 3 draft picks from their stockpile isn't really a big deal, I'm my opinion. Ken Holland said he wanted a prospect, Vegas said no way in hell, Holland caved in and took what he could get.

Ken Holland is on record as of just a couple days ago as stating the purpose is to build a Stanley Cup team and that road will come thru the future draft picks. This philosophy is alarming to me as I believe in a balance of prospects, draft picks and veteran leadership.

Another thing about Ken Holland that is perplexing is the promise of rebuilding on the fly. The Wings build on the fly is too slow, way too slow.

I could go on , but i'll not do that right now. I'm not a Kenny basher per say, just a bit miffed at him right now. He has done great things in the past and has a mind for hockey way, way, way way better than I... just hard to sit back and watch this go down when the hand-writing was on the wall 4 or 5 seasons ago.

If the picks Kenny received are future diamonds, then he will look like a genius. My question is, do they really have the discernment to pick the right kids?

I'm just confused by the actions of the front office presently and hope to eat a huge plate of crow... soon.

my older sister and brother were so happy the Flyers didn't go out and get someone old just to make a deal like Clarke did with Joel Otto, Adam Oates, Coffey, Vanbiesbruck, Hawerchuk, Tony Amonte etc.

I told them both - you trade to get better like some teams did./ Tampa went out as a top team and got a lot better and look to play for the Cup. That's was contending teams do. NOT PRETENDING TEAMS LIKE THE FLYERS. SJ as well as they stole Kane for a bag of drat picks and buffalo wings. The Flyers by doing NOTHING are basically telling everyone, this current team on a hot win streak doesn't need ANY HELP this season. HA! All teams need help. Hextall basically told the franchise - not only do we not need help this year, but next year too. That idiot is gambling on 6 prospects over proven NHL players. Sure he saves on salary and losing players, but Frost, Rubitov, Morin, Lindblom, Sanheim and Hart better all be freaking All-Stars since Hexy doesn't want to make a deal! Unreal !

I don't get a chance to watch tatar play much, I don't know his value outside his O stats, which are trending down. Everyone I heard yesterday had the same opinion, vegas overpaid but improved their team. It could be that the wings felt at 27, trending down and signed for another 4 years at $5.3M, it was a good time to cut bait.

Like I said, I don't know his overall game, if all he does is score 20 goals, he might be overpaid. Cap space is always good going into the summer, maybe kenny has his eyes on another player he thinks could be more valuable at $5M.

i cant believe Tartar brought back a 1, 2 and 3. he's not that good and as skinny pointed out, not a team friendly deal at all.

not dissimilar to McPhee trading the prospect Forsberg back in the day for Erat.
