Beat Johnson cleanly and rang the pipe too. He looked pretty good, they were forcing it a bit but he looked good. He hadn’t played in a game for a week before tonight.

    Don’t blow it, get Dahlin!
There’s no Eichel to take #2 this year and I think we can agree that a stud LHD is very much needed in Buffalo.

Dahlin would help every team immediately. There's less than a 20% odds of getting him. I'm glad this may be they best draft ever for D.

Joining a growing list of 2018 Olympians that are finding new homes in the NHL, Chris Kelly has reportedly signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks.

TSN‘s Bob McKenzie, Kelly’s contract will pay him $1.25 million prorated for the balance of the 2017-18 season. The deal also includes unspecified bonuses.

Kelly captained the Canadian team to an Olympic bronze medal in PyeongChang, where he scored two goals (including a game-winner) and added one assist in six games. Before the Games he was skating with the Belleville Senators, Ottawa’s AHL affiliate, where he registered two assists in 16 games.

just received an awful phone call. an ex-coworker buddy of mine and old golfing partner has Leukemia. Terrible. He has 3 kids and is a fit guy. He's only 52. He's a fighter, so I know he will do whatever it takes to fight this. Just when life is going well, it deals you a bad hand. Praying for him today.

Just goes to show you, illness don't discriminate ! That can go after anyone they want ! This blows.

yeah he's 52 and really fit. I guess leukemia doesn't care. I found out from a former co-worker. I don't know how to approach this, but I will call him in a few days to see how he's doing. going to be a rough call.

What pissed me off is that they didn't have the super spicy brown sauce at the Taco Del Mar there. In Hamilton they have it and it arguably makes them the best burritos in town just because of that sauce.

I'm not big on burritos, sometimes I just get the chips, they have that brown sauce downstairs in the food court in front of the hockey hall of fame across from the other longos.

it's a miracle isn't it? the Eagles win the Super Bowl and the Sixers and Flyers are 22-2-2 since the SB. Winning is contagious. The Flyers lost 2 games since Feb 1 both to NJ and one was a shootout in OT. Hextall didn't feel the need to make a move besides signing a cut player. I'm baffled by this of course. Tampa showed what a contending team does. Hextall by doing nothing showed what a pretending team does. They need to get home ice to have any chance to win a playoff round. TB, Boston, Pitt and Wash and maybe NYR can all beat them in a 7 game series. Thank God for the new goalie.

Patric Hornqvist avoids free agency, inks 5-year extension with Penguins

Patric Hornqvist could have taken what’s likely to be a fifth-straight 20-goal season to the open market this season and cashed in as an unrestricted free agent. Instead, the Pittsburgh Penguins forward has signed a five-year, $26.5 million extension to stay with the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions.

Since coming over from the Nashville Predators in a trade during the 2014 NHL draft, Hornqvist has scored 85 goals and recorded 178 points in 267 games. He’s saved some of his biggest moments for the postseason where he’s potted 14 goals during the Penguins’ last two Cup runs, including the empty-netter that sealed things in 2016 versus the San Jose Sharks and the game-winning goal late in the clincher against his old Predators teammates last June.

“We are thrilled for Patric. He has been such a big part of this team and what they’ve been able to accomplish,” said Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan. “He’s a positive guy. He brings a dimension to our dressing room that’s unique. There’s no one more deserving.”

The extension means, as Cap Friendly shows us, that the Penguins now have Hornqvist, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel, Kris Letang, Brian Dumoulin and Olli Maatta signed through at least the 2021-22 season. That’s your core for this current Cup window.

Here’s the big question, though: Is this extension too long for your liking? Hornqvist turned 31 on New Year’s Day and will be 36 when his contract expires in 2023. He plays a physical game and has missed 24 games over the last two seasons and 42 in his four years in Pittsburgh. Bodies break down as they age, and considering how the Swede likes to engage opponents, how will this contract look in two or three years, and who might be negatively affected by it cap-wise?
