If, by moving down from 1 to 2 -and- adding 3.2 and a 2019 1st round pick? I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat !
I think it's pretty obvious, so that they would have their choice of QBs, rather than hoping the Browns don't take their guy. Honestly, if I had ONE guy that I simply had to have, that deal is fairly cheap to ensure I get him...Unfortunately, in the end, I think the Browns will have a consensus that Baker Mayfield is their must have prospect and they will stay right where they are. That could be good for the Giants in the end, as these QBs will be all over the place in rankings and their guy could be someone other than Mayfield. I'm being honest, I will be surprised if it is anyone other than Baker Mayfield at #1.
As long as you're confident they're not taking "your guy", I agree... but that's a pretty big risk. From the Giants' perspective, you're giving up a lot to land your QB, especially when you already have a capable starter. This isn't a team like Washington moving up to get Bob Griffin or Los Angeles moving up to get Jared Goff. Only Mayfield, Rosen, and maybe Rudolph (although he's not a high-caliber one, in my opinion) are guys who *could* start as rookies. We've got plenty of doubters out there right now that the Browns won't make Mayfield the pick at #1 - can you imagine how they'd feel about a team trading that haul to draft him? Rosen will be available (third QB off the board). Darnold will be available, and is a project. It makes all the sense in the world for Cleveland - as long as you're getting your guy. It make zero sense for New York to do.
I couldn't help but think of SAS when I saw Mary Kay's headline today over at Cleveland. com; Will Hue Jackson have more say in the QBs and other questions for the Browns at the 2018 NFL Combine any thoughts on that Sam?
My only thought was the article was misspelled. Will Hue Jackson have any say in the QBs? - should be the appropriate title. Answer? No. He's a 1-31 lame duck head coach who's ruined the careers of Cody Kessler and DeShone Kizer, two third and second round picks in consecutive seasons. He's on the hottest seat imaginable and without a 10+ winning season in 2018 (unlikely), he'll be the first coach fired in the cycle. They'll sign A.J. McCarron in free agency to pacify him and then move on to drafting a QB they want to build around for longer than the next 6-to-16 games.
Well I figured we'd at least get a gif that emphasizes how much you like the idea of Hue having a say, or something....lol! Just kidding...I know your thoughts on the matter.
I've heard speculation that McCarron will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of what Mike Glennon cost the Bears. I believe it was 3yr/$45m..How can AJM be worth that? It seems crazy to me. I mean, it's not my money, and I know we need help at the position, but what did we learn from that move the Bears made? It was awful...Along with Kenny Britt, that had to be among the worst F/A signings.
Unfortunately that's what it may cost, but I'm not signing him to more than a 2-year heavily incentive laden "prove" it deal. I'm not willing to guarantee Dalton's back up; starter $$ by any means.
The trick is that's not all going to be paid. His deal was only worth $18.5 million - $10.5 million of that in the first year. McCarron should get close to that. I think Bob Griffin was given $5 million guaranteed a season and he had one offer (ours). I'd give McCarron a three-year deal worth about $45 million but with only about $15 - $18 of that guaranteed and front-loaded.
Yeah, I think that's what it will take...It still seems crazy, but that's where the NFL is. QB's salaries are off the charts. Good work if you can get it...
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/ind...yock_believes_browns_wi.html#incart_big-photo Well, like it or not, it looks like the Josh Allen to Cleveland bandwagon is filling up...Mike Mayock is piling on. Though he did say it would come down to Darnold and Allen.
Like I have been saying....FSU has been winning in spite of coaching on Def....just look at the talent in the NFL and how they played over the last few yrs at FSU....T Mac may b a steal mid 2nd round now
Take the Mike Mayock comments with a grain of salt. His #1 QB in last year's class was Deshone Kizer. They should have revoked his right to evaluate QB's after that... He stands by the same line of thinking as Mel Kiper on the Cleveland QB hunt. We have to take the big strong guy that can see over every lineman, and can wing it 80 yards down the field. Baker Mayfield won't be a consideration for Cleveland according to these guys. On TV the other night, Mayock even mentioned the "Johnny" comparison while talking about Mayfield, and said he does have maturity concerns. Says Cleveland will steer clear... These guys are all like broken records. They are just regurgitating the same takes over and over.... I don't know what the Browns are going to do on draft day, but I'm hoping they give us reason for hope by having a big free agency period...No one will let us forget 1-31, nor do I expect them to, but if we are going to ever change the culture in Cleveland, the actions MUST speak louder than words. Hearing a Browns exec talking about winning, rings hollow. We've heard enough talk. Just execute a real plan...Let the production speak for itself.
And Blaine Gabbert. Jeeze... it's like he's got a type. Big arm, mobile enough, can't play the position. Mike Mayock was a giant, but his time has passed. He's in the same vein of archaic thinking like Bill Polian and the "Old Breed" of NFL scouts/personnel guys.
