Maybe I don't understand what you're saying but the NFL's March 6th is our February 13th. At least that's how we've done it in the first two years which means as of Tuesday morning Brees was a free agent.

All indicators pointed to Belichick getting a helluva lot more for Garropollo than (1) 2nd round pick. This league is unpredictable and the only thing we have to go by is the history of Brees and the Saints. He has put the screws to them every time he's had an opportunity.

I don't think Brees and the Saints can say they are a lock to come to a mutual understanding. So I don't believe we should be doing that either.

Which is how the contract was written. IMO we shouldn't assume anything in here. We haven't in the past.

 

Drew Brees is posturing. He's part of the fabric of this community. So he's going to tell the whole world that this is the only place he wants to be so if by chance they can't come to an agreement he can then tell the whole world it was all the Saints' fault. He wanted to stay. Brees is going to get what he wants or he'll walk. How do you think he managed all this leverage (18M in dead money day 1)? He and his agent aren't stupid. They set this contract up with the last one.

 

All valid points, but unless I missed in the past where there was a circumstance that mirrored this one there is no history to run this off of.

If there was another option that made it so that the Saints GM was given the opportunity to make the same decision that is currently being played out in real time, I didn't see it. Being that he came to us with a request to look at it, we made an offer that was more than fair.

Which is pretty much where I came down on it. I don't intend on everyone being happy in any given situation, because that's an attempt at failure. But I do aim to be fair in any decision that I work towards.

I don't know of any other contract out there that is so poisonous to a team if they allow that player to become a free agent. Both sides have stated publicly that he will be a Saint, that is the only reasons we did what we did. It changes the whole complexion of this exercise to allow Brees to be a free agent AND also stymies the Saints in this exercise. It would be a trickle down effect that would change the entire exercise.

Do you honestly believe Brees will become a free agent this off season beach?

 

Beach I agree, valid points. If it wasn't a unique cap hell situation that would essentially ruin and possibly be unfair for the Saints we would have told him tough cookies eat the cap and Brees is a FA. Like you I feel he got the better end of the deal.

Not yet. But bidding on all RFA at any legal price should open soon. I spoke with Tim and he will post when it's time.

 

Are we waiting on comp picks to be released or we gonna use the Over the Cap projections?

 

We will not allow any trading of comp picks until they are officially announced.

 

I think you mean for the draft, correct? If so, they are usually announced towards the end of the combine week, well before our draft starts.

 

I'm hoping that Crabtree and Graham can give the offense the kick in the ass it needs. I'm thinking of keeping Woodhead too now that he is healed and has a better cast.

 

Can anyone offer up some insight as to why the Saints have six (6) Tight Ends and seven (7) Guards on their roster?

 

The Giants current have 7 guys listed as a tackle on the roster. Maybe 2 of them are NFL quality players... I guess when you don't have anyone you try everyone.

They also have a ridiculous 11 WR's but some of that is simply how many guys ended up on IR in season I think.

 

that's because after the season all teams can have 90 man rosters until mid preseason

 

The Spotrac list for the Falcons definitely has errors. Might be a few mistakes (guys listed at wrong position) on the Saints roster list too.

 

Up to each GM to iron those out Torgo. As long as they’re at least on the right team we’ll get by
