Go sign him (in March, obviously). What's it hurt? Now it's just money. I've seen the number $20 million thrown around recently, which I agree is the amount you'd pay him on a three year deal, but "they" are saying per year. Wrong.

McCarron will probably get $6 - 8 million guaranteed a season on a three year deal with incentives and prove-it bonuses in the contract to push it maybe into the $12 million a year range. Ultimately, a three-year, $36 million deal with $18 guaranteed and most of that upfront in signing bonus wouldn't be bad.

Browns still take a QB at #1 overall and McCarron fends off the rookie as long as he can.

One last note on McCarron (@Lyman, look away because it's about to Hue-gly in here)...

The bus-driving coward we call a head coach not only nearly sent #33 and #65 to a division rival for a backup caliber quarterback who would have only been under contract for nine games, but he irreparably divided the front office in doing so. Sashi Brown was a goddamn hero by refusing to execute this trade, even if it cost him this - and potentially future - job(s).

Hue Jackson can still push for the team to sign McCarron, but if the deal is anything north of $10 million a year for a guy who isn't better than Andy Dalton, I'm balking. Especially considering that Todd Haley is the offensive coordinator now and Hue Jackson will be unemployed by Halloween.

    ... all right, rant over.

I want to focus on one thing here...

"Browns' secondary was main not the problem in 2017."

Where did the free safety position rate in 2017?

  4. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

They rank the position with strong/free together. However, here were the player grades:

    Kindred: 82.0
    Campbell: 75.8 (released)
    Nacua: 72.4
    Peppers: 45.4

The problem was we didn't have a free safety.

Budda Baker earned an 84.5 grade and was the 18th-rated safety (10th-rated free safety).

    Other players of note...

    Myles Garrett (88.4. #12 EDGE)
    Cooper Kupp (81.1, #20th WR)
    Kareem Hunt (88.9, #3 RB)

Maybe most importantly, no DeShone Kizer (51.1, #37 QB)

... it's like I should be drafting for the Cleveland Browns.

  6. NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks compared Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield to Minnesota Vikings QB Case Keenum.

"Each is a productive passer capable of winning games, but the presence of a strong supporting cast is needed to elevate their play as starters," Brooks writes. He calls the need for a rock-solid cast "extremely important" for Mayfield, who he would like to see surrounded by players adept at the catch-and-run in order to best take advantage of the quarterback's skill set. Multiple mock drafts to date have seen the Oklahoma star off the board within the top 10 picks, with both Brooks and fellow NFL Media analyst Charley Casserly pegging him to the New York Jets at No. 6 in recent thought exercises.

Here's a news flash for you stopper...

In my recent memory, there have only been two QBs that come to mind that have succeeded no matter who else was put on the team around them...

Future HOFers Tom Brady and Peyton Manning....Maybe Brett Favre falls in that category, but he did have a couple of melt down years.

Brady and Manning, have MADE stars out of the surrounding cast. I don't think any other QB (except possibly favre) has shown an ability to do that.

Without a top notch supporting cast on both offense and defense Ben wouldn't have (2) rings...
Without a top notch supporting cast on both sides, Wilson doesn't win his...
Brees has had great years and mediocre years based on the talent on the defensive side of the ball. He hasn't been able to overcome bad defenses like Manning and Brady have, they have made the playoffs every year of their career they were healthy, no matter where their defenses ranked.

EVERY QB in this league, needs a great supporting cast if they hope to make a Super Bowl, let alone win it.

Every team aspiring to be Super Bowl contenders though, NEED A GREAT QB....Baker Mayfield is a GREAT QB.

I'd toss Aaron Rodger's name into the ring as well, but the point remains the same - only the exceptionally rare QBs are capable of doing that.

And Tom Brady has never been outside of the New England surroundings. No guarantee he's the same without Belicheck.

That's true, only Jimmy Garoppolo has shown success away from Bill Bellichick...lol

  11. Ya cause everybody had Brown as the best WR since he was drafted

  12. Also Manning had Edge, Wayne and Harrison w Clark....I guess thats lacking talent

Good for Bucky Brooks. He's a fine analyst and he's entitled to his opinion.

I'll take the word of someone I trust more, who just so happens to be in the Browns' F/O:

Browns' Scot McCloughan still has Baker Mayfield as his top QB 'hands down' and Kirk Cousins not 'special'

And - unprompted - he compared Mayfield to Brett Freakin' Favre (que @showstopper - where was he drafted).

Geeze... who does that sound like?

    Just call me SAS McCloughan.

  17. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

But sure... we'll draft the next Trent Green (Josh Rosen) or Carson Palmer (Sam Darnold) or Logan Thomas (Josh Allen) instead of the next Favre.

    :FAP:

    Browns' draft doesn't start until #4. #ComeGetSome

I don't care, Peyton played for the Colts for 15 seasons...missing the playoffs 3 times
    1- his rookie year
    2- his 4th year
3- the year he missed every game due to injury

The Broncos missed the playoffs from 2006 through 2010, signed Manning in 2011 and made the playoffs every year (5 years) he was there, he was hurt in 2015, came back to go 7-2 as a starter for them, including the Super Bowl..They haven't been back to the playoffs since, are picking #5 in the draft and hoping they can find a QB just like we are...

He made the playoffs 17 times....Are you trying to say that the Colts and Broncos WERE SO GOOD AT GETTING PERSONNEL that Manning didn't really matter, it was the players around him?

Because out of those 22 years since he was drafted, he missed the playoffs twice, in the same 22 years here is what the Colts and Broncos did:

The Colts have been without Manning 7 years and missed the playoffs 4 out of those 7 years...remember they went to the playoffs 10 out of 12 years with Peyton as their starter.
The Broncos were without Manning 15 years and missed the playoffs 10 out of those 15 years...remember they went to the playoffs 5 out of 5 years with him.

playoffs 15 out of 17 years starting...Yeah, that's because of personnel
    Missed the playoffs twice
    Missed a year to injury
    Been retired for two seasons

Brady was even better, I don't think I need to run through his career...

    Ignorance is bliss

  19. What happened when Manning missed those games in Denv? Manning was a great QB but to say he didnt have Hall of Famers around him is hilarious or it didnt matter...now Brady has Edelman, Hogan, Amendola, Gronk...thats far less than Marv, Wayne, Edge etc
