More on this completely garbage hot take: Mayfield in the first half... 13 of 20 (65.0%) for 230 yards, 1 TD, 178.1 QB rating ... against one of the best defenses in college football. To re-cap their first-half possessions: 1: Touchdown 2: Touchdown 3: Touchdown 4: Field Goal 5: Punt 6: Touchdown There was only one drive that didn't yield points. If you score 31 points in an NFL game before halftime, there's a 95+ percent chance you win that game. Your comprehension of American football is, quite honestly, trash.
And Big Ben has missed a ton of throws (if we're just throwing out generic comments) and he's 6'5". What's your point? Darnold and Allen have a lower completion % and more turn overs. And yet they're taller.........hmmmmmmm. Nope, your argument doesn't float.
I am saying he overthrew wide open WRs who would have scored had he just put the ball somewhere they could catch it.
A&M and USC for Rosen Darnold was UNREAL vs Stanford in both games and played really well vs Ohio St...his OL was brutal that game
Maybe, and I get this from your comment in the same post, he couldn't see over his linemen. SMH Please refer to Crex's post.
Texas A&M: 87th overall (85th passing) USC: 60th overall (82nd passing) A&M: 35 of 59 (59.3%), 491 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, 151.6 QB rating USC: 32 of 52 (61.5%), 421 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT, 144.7 QB rating A narrow overtime win and a loss. Nice. Stanford: 35th overall (81st passing) Ohio State 15th overall (30th passing) Stanford: 38 of 50 (76.0%), 641 yards, 6 TD, 2 INT, 215.3 QB rating Ohio State: 26 of 45 (57.8%), 356 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 119.8 QB rating (+4 fumbles) Baker Mayfield versus Ohio State: 27 of 35 (77.1%), 386 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT, 198.1 QB rating Against an NFL front-four. Oklahoma: 26 sacks on 433 pass plays (0.060 per play) USC: 30 sacks on 491 pass plays (0.061 per play) UCLA: 29 sacks on 505 pass plays (0.057 per play) He faced an NFL-style front four and crumbled like a FCS prospect. Four fumbles, eight sacks, and three hurries. And Denzel Ward - their best player in the secondary - sat out the game. I can't believe I'm about to utter some of your crap lines... "but 90 percent of Darnold's production came while Ohio State was playing prevent with a huge lead". Baker Mayfield faced that same defense and only had two sacks, two hurries, and no fumbles. Your evaluation of quarterbacks is crap if you think Mayfield wasn't good against Ohio State but Darnold "played well" and was let down by a quality offensive line. Rosen played a terrible schedule and gets zero points for "quality opponents".
A&M was the biggest comeback in college football history and I picked USC cause its UCLA biggest rival.....UCLA didnt play many big games cause their talent level wasnt good as evident by firing their coach...Darnold shredded a very tough physical Stanford team twice.....as I stated his OL was abused which led to the 4 fumbles....looking at the game he was making huge plays and was driving on the opening possession when Burnett fumbled...the game snow balled from there
They were 82nd (out of 130) in passing defense. That is not a tough defense. They are nowhere near the caliber of Ohio State, who actually is a tough and physical defense. It'll be humorous when Darnold measures 9.25" hands. Let me just re-state this... Baker Mayfield had a "bad" second half against Georgia, so he's undraftable. Sam Darnold had a "bad" every play but the first drive against Ohio State... and he's the second-best QB in the class? Josh Rosen had a "bad" overall season, but because his coach was fired, that means that the team's talent was crap and he gets a mulligan? Josh Allen has a couple of questions for you... Your requirements for "top QB" in a class are the same as a waitress at Hooters -- if they fill out the standard uniform, they're hired.
You quite literally said after Rosen and Darnold they were "all the same" and it was a drop off. In your own words, Mayfield = J.T. Barrett.
And what I'm trying to get you to say is your only complaints about Mayfield are size and possible off-field stuff. That's fair... that's a concern I or any General Manager (armchair or otherwise) should have. And the bottom line is if you want to make an alcohol-related arrest and his height the hill you want to die on, fine. But he's shown for three seasons he can play NFL-level football and was in fact the best quarterback in college over that span of time. He checks off every box (outside of maturity and height) a scout or anyone else could have.
