Shock. Traditional football guy likes traditional football pick. Remind me where Carson Wentz was on mock drafts this time in 2016. Hint: he wasn't in the first round discussion.
A look inside the A.J. McCarron grievance: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sp...587002/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter I'll preface with saying I don't want McCarron... but why with the team seemingly intent on drafting a QB with that #1 pick would they go out and get a guy who's taking legal action against his current team because he wants to be a starter? Sure, he'd be a starter here... for about half a season.
Bengals debating a first or second round tender on A.J. McCarron. Eagles asking price for Foles "reportedly" two first round choices. Meanwhile, San Francisco got Jimmy Garoppolo for a measly second-round pick.
Patriots were stupid on that move, IMO...They convinced themselves that JG would somehow end up on the Jets or Bills, so they took far less than his worth, so they could ship him out to Bill Belichick's old pal Kyle Shanahan...They knew he would get a long term deal from SF, but that was just a strange deal It kept him out of the conference, but I bet they would do things differently if they had a do over....
I beg to differ on that..but I understand what you are getting at. I'm starting to think if the Browns really want Mayfield, they might try to pull that off at #4....Or they might trade down a spot with the Giants. I don't think Barkley will get past the Colts, and I think the Browns really want him. We very well could take Barkely at #1 and roll the dice, hoping Mayfield gets to #4.
Sorry, I guess by February things were starting to turn around. The earliest I could find him in the first round discussion was #22 overall (Mel Kiper Jr. - January 14, 2016). Kiper, Matt Miller, and SB Nation had him in the Top 10 by mid-February. Few (Mel was an exception) had him as the first QB off the board. #7 (San Francisco) seemed to be a popular landing spot. Other sites had him in the #11 - #15 range. I'll continue to preach the "don't get cute" mantra. If the Browns want a QB at #4, you take that QB at #1. Too much unpredictability - plus you basically telegraph the move - to leave to chance. Also, very strongly doubt the Colts or Browns take Saquon Barkley, FWIW. Both teams have personal experience with Trent Richardson and, unfortunately, Barkley's biggest issue is hitting/seeing the creases just like ol' T-Rich.
Well put..I couldn't agree more. Not saying I would do it, just speculating on the Browns. The only way I'd EVER consider something other than QB at #1, besides a Cousins signing, would be if I somehow felt comfortable with any of the top 3 college QB prospects. And the likelihood of that seems very remote. My thinking on the Browns was, maybe they would get cute if they felt CERTAIN about the intentions of the Giants and Colts....But I don't anticipate either of those war rooms to volunteer such information. So being "certain" is impossible. It would be a gamble.
I cant paste from this computer....from Casserly(no he's doesn't know it all but) #1 Darnold- He's the best QB in this draft #2 Rosen- He's the most pro ready QB in this draft
Also, this is verifiably false. He [Charlie Casserly] could have said "Hes the best QB prospect in this draft" and been okay. Darnold isn't close to the best QB. Mason Rudolph Baker Mayfield Riley Ferguson ... just to name a few threw circles around Darnold last season. Darnold checks in at #24 in rating, #21 in TDs thrown, and #27 in QB completion.
Did you have a coronary when you saw Derwin James at #30 overall? How about three guards in the first round? Hasn't happened since 2013. Jonathan Cooper (bust), Chance Warmack (bust), and Kyle Long (now a tackle).
Nah...he will knock it out of the park at the combine...he is the perfect SS for the NFL....he can rush the passer as he used to work w the DEs at FSU daily and has good coverage skills...another yr removed from his knee injury and he will wreck havoc
Happy Mr. Katherine Webb Day to all you Browns fans, too. Allegedly, today is the day we could have a resolution to the injunction. One of two outcomes is going to happen: A.J. McCarron wins, making him a free agent. In this scenario, even with next to no control anymore in Cleveland, Hue Jackson could still get his man as a free agent deal for McCarron is going to run about 1/3 what Garroppolo cost. It wouldn't be the first time a team with Scot McCloughan in the building spent big on a free agent backup-caliber QB, only to immediately turn the reigns over to a 6'0" (or shorter) rookie and go on to win a Super Bowl. Bengals win, keeping McCarron as a restricted free agent. Now, regardless of tender, there is zero chance McCarron ends up in Cleveland - or anywhere else for that matter - if someone has to part with a first or second round pick, rumored to be the debate right now in Cincinnati on which one to tag him with. A.J. sits for another season behind Dalton and when the whole organization is blown up next season, goes to whichever spot offers Hue Jackson an offensive coordinator role once he's fired (mid-season) by Cleveland. Either way... I wouldn't worry too much.
