The sentence did indeed have both a subject and a predicate. The subject was you...the predicate was the act of doing an I know you are but what am I. You were the subject...did was the predicate. Did is a verb. The subject is the doer of the action...in that sentence You. The predicate is what that subject did...you did an I know you are but what am I. Ta-da!
