That's some interesting stuff. I didn't know there was a history of it either. I wonder what happens to Borges... he claims the false report was easy to do also. Thanks for bringing this to light, Matty.
Lions announced they have agreed to terms with General Manager Bob Quinn on an extension to his current contract. The extension matches the term of HC Matt Patricia’s new deal with the team - both tied to Detroit for five years.
Colts Hire Eagles Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich As Head Coach Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich agreed will become the Colts new head coach, the team announced Sunday. Mike Garafolo of NFL.com reported that Reich will sign a five-year deal and Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter of ESPN.com first reported that Reich was the favorite for the job. Reich started his coaching career with the Colts, first serving as an intern in 2006 and 2007, then becoming the team's offensive assistant from 2008-2011. After that, he went to the Cardinals as their wide receivers coach, and then to the Chargers as the quarterbacks coach. He was the Chargers' offensive coordinator for two seasons, and then he spent the next two years as Philadelphia's offensive coordinator. The Colts initially planned to hire Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, but last week, McDaniels backed out of the deal to remain in New England as the offensive coordinator, but with a larger roles in front office matters, working more with coach Bill Belichick. Reich, 56, helped the Eagles defeat McDaniels and the Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII. The game before that, Reich's offense scored 31 of the Eagles' 38 points against the Vikings, the NFL's top-ranked defense in 2017. Philadelphia ranked seventh in yards and third in scoring in 2017. The Eagles already lost quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo to the Vikings.
Rueben Foster of the 9'ers has bail set at $750,000. Yikes, that is a lot of coin. Arrested for domestic abuse and an assault rifle. Everyone needs assault rifles, right? After having been arrested earlier this year in Alabama for pot charges, he made a stellar move at the combine in which he was sent home for? I really think this kid is effed up. They should cut his testicles off IMO.
Not news, but a note... Jimmy Graham is about to become a free agent, and DeAndre Hopkins has an idea for where he should go. Hopkins posted a picture on Twitter of Graham Photoshopped into a Texans uniform, and tagged Graham in the tweet. Graham hasn’t replied to that tweet, but the move could make sense: Graham will surely be seeking one more big-money contract in his career, and the Texans have a lot more cap space available than the Seahawks. The 31-year-old Graham is coming off a season in which he averaged a career-low 9.1 yards per catch, but he re-emerged as a red zone threat and scored 10 touchdowns. Hopkins would love to see Graham catching touchdown passes from Deshaun Watson next season, and Texans fans would love to see that, too.
C.J. Fiedorowicz contemplates retirement due to concussions In late August, Texans tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz signed a three-year, $21.5 million contract. Now, he may be walking away from the final two seasons of the deal. Fiedorowicz acknowledged over the weekend that he’s thinking about retiring, after suffering three concussions in 2017. “A dude knocked me out,” Fiedorowicz said of the Week One concussion that put him on injured reserve, via Joe Stevenson of the Northwest (Ill.) Herald. “After eight weeks, when I came back, it was constantly on my mind. I wasn’t always able to play loose and free. It was in my head. Anytime that’s on your mind while you’re playing an NFL football game, you’re in trouble. You can’t play timid. Guys are trying to take your head off, you know?” Fiedorowicz suffered two more concussions over the balance of the season. “You can’t go repair your brain,” Fiedorowicz said. “It’s not like an ACL or shoulder. That’s serious. I took some dingers. There was a couple of weeks there where I was having some tough times. This is what I’ve done my whole life, so to think that I’m going to walk away is tough. It’s not something that I thought of doing, because I signed the new deal, anytime soon. Life goes on, whatever happens.” When a report emerged in December that he may retire due to the concussions, Fiedorowicz’s agent said he wants to play, and that it’s too early to make any decisions about his future. Because Fiedorowicz did not receive a signing bonus, he’d owe the Texans nothing if he retires. His $5 million base salary for 2018 is fully guaranteed, but per the Houston Chronicle it can be reduced to $2.8 million if he’s unable to play due to concussions. (PFT)
straight out of the speculation files... Pereira thinks Goodell told Riveron to change his standard on replay reviews The NFL appeared to change its standard for overturning calls in instant replay in 2017-2018, with head of officiating Al Riveron seeming to stray away from the “indisputable” standard in the regular season only to return to it in the postseason. One of Riveron’s predecessors believes the commissioner was behind that. Former NFL head of officiating Mike Pereira said on the Talk of Fame podcast that from his conversations with people around the league, he thinks there were teams complaining to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell about Riveron being too quick to overturn plays on instant replay, and Riveron adjusted accordingly. “I talk to enough coaches and enough members of the competition committee that they weren’t happy, and so I think the word trickled to Goodell and Goodell probably sat down with Alberto, who he has a great amount of respect for, and just said, ‘Hey, you’ve got to realize you need to make an adjustment. You’re being too technical,'” Pereira said. The Eagles may have benefited from that change in approach: Corey Clement‘s touchdown catch was a very close call on which he may not have had full possession of the ball with both feet down, but Riveron decided to stay with the call on the field. During the regular season, that might not have been a touchdown. (PFT)
Indisputable is indisputable. If that is the rule I am never truly a fan of reversing a play on "odds it was wrong".
I agree wholeheartedly, Joe... just you know there will be arguments and speculation on what constitutes indisputable, lol.
If they argue...well its disputed. lol Actually many times it is argued it's because people are so confused with the rules and start thinking the answer is on messed up precedent logic. Look at the Jesse James "catch". It's indisputably incomplete but people start misinterpreting and analyzing past results and all of a sudden it's a controversy.
All I can ask for is consistency throughout. I remember as a kid, the game rolled on and the World turned, yet there was no replays and challenges, slow-motion freeze frames and outerspace technologies. Its too bad with all the new state-of-the-art stuff, there is still blown calls, controversy and such, but not always at least. I think its getting better and will take time to hone out all the bugs in the system. I think for the most part they get it right... every now and then someone is going to make a mistake. Too many people want perfection, especially when it benefits their team or personal gain.
they want perfection bc technology is giving them better angles that the live tv feed does when it airs. when a game airs, we see 1 footage. on replay, we see several, so yeah, get the calls right. we all know the bigger issue is the confusion in the rules and what is a catch vs what is not a catch. the rules need to be ironed out and spelled out CLEARLY so the players and fans all know what is a catch for the new season.
Luke Kuechly had shoulder surgery Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly‘s offseason plans will involve recovering from shoulder surgery. Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that Kuechly had an operation on his right shoulder after the end of the regular season. Kuechly appeared on the injury report near the end of the regular season with a shoulder injury and pulled out of the Pro Bowl in Orlando last month. The report does not include a timeline for Kuechly to be back to football activities, but the Panthers have no reason to do anything but take it slowly with one of their defensive leaders. Kuechly is the second player in that category to have shoulder surgery this offseason. Defensive end Julius Peppers, who is not signed for 2018, went in for surgery last week. (PFT)
I think the rules are spelled out clearly... problem lies within Refs interpretation of what they see on the fly. Cant replay every play though, that's whats killing the flow of the game.
Will - it seems like the refs differ on what is a reception from game to game. Dez Brytant, Jesse James, Clement and Zach Ertz ?
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-arrested-accused-of-dragging-his-girlfriend/ Reuban Foster in more trouble for dragging his girlfriend caveman style.
My humble opinion: Dez' could have gone either way - you could argue he didn't do enough to transition to a runner; or you could argue he took THREE steps and made a football move to set himself up as a runner James' wasn't a catch Clement's was - ball moved, but he had possession all the way through Ertz' was a catch - he took a whole bunch of steps and was clearly a runner
