Then you missed a few reports. Shasi passed on multiple QB's in the draft and instead gave Hue Jackson a roster with three QB' with a total of 2 years NFL experience combined (one of which even the Domer Homers say should have stayed in college for another year)! Sashi Brown was the man who owned the responsibility for putting together the 53 man roster . . . And he failed that responsibility miserably.

No one, including Sean McVay, would have been successful with the Browns' 2017 roster.

Sashi's biggest problem was he didn't know what he didn't know. His ego took over. He did what he did know very well and accumulated a tremendous amount of assets. But you don't win in the NFL with assets. You win with players. If John Dorsey gives Jackson a 53 man roster that can compete and Jackson fails again . . . Then Jackson deserves to lose his job as well. OBTW: the first thing Dorsey did was overhaul the scouting and personnel staff.

    The right guy got canned.

The right guy did get canned but I think they both should have. I still think Hue can coach QBs but he needs an actual QB that can be coached and has a future. There are now on the roster and the scouts suck.

    Reuben foster arrested again...

There were flags associated with Foster. He will make an all-prison team at some point. What a wasted talent.

The funny thing is that I tried to trade for him last week.

Yea I could have gotten Witherspoon back and saved my third and future fourth if I had accepted that deal

Thing with Hue is, I get they had very little talent, but you’d think a good coach could steal 2-3 games with a good game plan. Still debatably a top 3 OL in Cleveland, good duo at RB. Hue couldn’t manage one victory.
Colts got 4, with our defense...just sayin’.

  8. 1. Your defense wasn't that bad. You have some pieces to work around, and after this year it can be pretty good with a couple good picks.

    2. I REALLY don't think Hue was trying to win games. He did some head scratching things, and I feel he knew this year was gonna be garbage for his team. They stayed close in most games, with few blowouts. He let his rookies play and judged what he has to work with. Especially when the trade for AJ went bad, your front office basically just told you, we care less about winning now than next year. So why put in the effort? The team still played for him and tried every game.

The Browns roster, talent wise, isn't an 0-16 roster. An athletic group, (I think 8th most), but what has already been talked about is that they are young, green players. The question is can Hue and staff aid the player development process enough. Also the owner, the front office and the coaches have to have one vision, and it was clear that the Browns did not, (A.J. McCarron botched trade),(for the best that didn't happen). Is John Dorsey tied to vision that Hue has? Or is there a longer term goal in mind that Hue isn't going to be around next year anyhow? I'd think that some scouts in the Browns office can't help from having those thoughts. Why get players for a coach that isn't going to be here next year?

Yes, the Colts got 4 wins . . . With a competent QB, T.Y. Hilton and a running game. The Browns had none of those things. Unless you watched D. Kizer week after week, you couldn't possibly appreciate just how bad he was. Add in the fact that the Browns didn't even start an NFL caliber WR until Josh Gordon returned (and then didn't have a compimentary receiver to draw coverage).

And, OBTW, one of those 4 Colts wins was against the Browns.

Make no mistake, Hue made plenty of in game poor decisions. Those I cannot nor will try to defend. They happened. But the Browns faced a no-win decision at year's end. If Haslam had canned Jackson, everyone (including most of the posters here) would have been screaming, "same old Browns. They NEVER give a coach the time to succeed!" Instead, Haslam opted to fire the right guy and give Hue another chance. If he falls flat on his face again . . . There's no doubt he's gone for 2019.

I feel like Haslam just likes Hue on a personal level, so Hue was able to convince him to keep him. I don't think he has done anything at all to indicate that he deserves another year on the job.

And the coach decided to start him week and after week and put Cody Kessler in the witness protection program.

Well, Cody Kessler (from all accounts) was a shadow of his 2016 self. I don't know if the concussions have stalled him, but Hogan was outperforming him in practice. When Hogan and Kessler for that matter, were given a chance in game...they shat down their legs...Neither looked any better than the 21 year old rookie, thus his arm gave him a marked advantage to starting over either of the "veterans".

If you aren't performing up to par, you choose the best option...unfortunately Hue didn't have but 3 options and in 2017, they were all terrible. I am still not ready to give up on Kizer's future, I want him to be developed. However, if he isn't #3 on the depth chart this upcoming season, I will be terribly disappointed in our off season.

Kessler proved himself a better player in 2016. He never got a chance to prove that in 2017.

Kizer had one good week where he "looked good". Actually I think he looked really good. That was in week 14 vs the Packers. But after that he looked worse than ever.

Kessler is a legit QB2, but shouldn't start and I think that's why he is getting bumped down. I don't know if anyone else on that roster is a QB3.

Not true, he was out there every single day...and as reported, Hogan was outplaying him. Kessler regressed in the off season. I would tend to blame it on the concussions he suffered in 2016, but who the hell knows. If he shows early signs of another regression this off season, he will not be on the team in 2018.

So you watched 15 Browns games last year Joe? lol, that's a helluva lot more than most Browns fans did...

He actually looked good in several games last year, but even in those games he made some REALLY costly decisions, which inevitably made it a negative on the day.

He is not seeing the receivers yet. He waits too long to make his decisions. That is rookie mistakes, but when you have 15 games under your belt, that should start improving and I didn't see it in 2017. He looked good twice against Pittsburgh, so that is a plus for him and his future here...but, I want him to sit back and learn this next season and see where the future goes from there. A 4 year second round draft pick contract is worth developing, so I still have hopes for him.

I don't know if Kessler was terrible because he was coming in cold, but when Kizer was injured in the 3rd Quarter, of Browns @ Lions the offense struggled under Kessler. Kizer vastly outplayed Kessler in that game. (Kizer played quite well)

I don't understand the zero sum part of the decision, specifically taking Hue over Sashi.

I mentioned it early in the season - go get a football mind to oversee the whole operation. Let Sashi continue to work at what he was doing, but the guy (Dorsey) gets final say on all decisions.

You get the opportunity to look at it from the perspective that Sashi had (draft picks and players as currency, looking to ever increase value) and still have Dorsey make the final determination on whether to add value (move picks/players) or spend the current value on something available.

It would have been the best opportunity, IMO, to continue adding draft capital and talent while not missing on players in the draft. You would increase the level of talent while increasing the value of the draft selections available.

Seems like the ideal situation to me.

If Hue and Sashi didn't see eye-to-eye and it ultimately got Brown canned, then I think the wrong decision was made.

6 or 7 full games plus some video of others.

But you are right he didn't improve. That is a main reason I called him a bust before the draft. I didn't see that ability to learn and improve over a season in college and I don't see it in the NFL.
