Actually....those were pretty much your exact words...... If anyone gets hurt or threatened by anyone else and does nothing about it, then they have no courage or respect for themselves. Sorry, but people have to get off of their asses and fight back. Sure there is fear involved. Courage is required.
Does/can alcohol affect a person enough that they would/can forget appropriate behaviour around others?
Al you're seeing attacks where none exist. You really don't need to get so personal with me every single time you respond to one of my posts. Try to be more objective in your writing. The article that I shared is an excellent representation of what happens when a person is assaulted. If your experience is different from the article, than say so by all means ... but don't assume that your opinion is typical of what happens in sexual assaults. How can it be if you've never been assaulted? At no point in any of these threads have I ever told you that you are not a true christian (whatever the hell that is). I have my opinion of the Catholic church but that is MY opinion. You don't have to feel threatened because: 1. I don't believe that there is a God. 2. I believe the Catholic church is full of depravity. 3. I have zero respect for anyone who calls themselves a christian and then relentlessly judges people (and holds themselves as better or superior to others) or only follows Christ's commandments when it's convenient for them. And to be even blunter ... I don't care if you believe me or not. Why would I? Your opinion changes nothing.
Some of you have been talking about the backlash of this movement/cause and how it will affect men. This is an interesting perspective on that subject: http://fortune.com/2018/02/06/lean-in-sheryl-sandberg/
I never said a word about calling rape victims cowards. That is a lie. My statement is about people needing to stand up for themselves and fighting back in any way that they can. This is a general statement. I also said that fear is very understandable and likened the entire sexual assault and/or rape is akin to being in combat. Courage is required as a means of over-coming fear. I think the same applies to the victims of abuse. You nit picking my words and trying to define me as someone who ignores sexual abuse and/or doesn't care for its victims is not going to work. In other words....fuck off.
Sure it can. People stoned or drunk do shit that they wouldn't do when sober. A lot of people, for example, will get into fights when drunk and would never do the same thing when sober. Normal inhibitions go away when people aren't sober.
You essentially said people who don't come forward don't have courage. And I don't believe you will find anyone that disagrees that they do need to come forward and fight. It's the fact that it's not that easy for a lot of victims to do that you keep ignoring. You define yourself with your own words. I don't need to help you with that. I didn't accuse you of not caring about the victims or ignoring anything....I challenge you to show where I did.
I agree with you Al. I've seen the nicest people in the world act in very offensive ways because of 'dutch courage' that they got from a bottle.
You did question my Christianity and call Catholics hypocrites. I took time to re-post what you actually said. I also can have an opinion about what happens in sexual assaults and not have been assaulted myself.. Also, you are so hypocritical about saying that I "relentlessly judge people" et al but routinely does it yourself as in "I believe the Catholic church is full of depravity". So the entire church is comprised of depraved people. That isn't a RELENTLESS JUDGEMENT? What hypocrisy on your part. It is you who by your own words and action, holds yourself better or superior than Christians and Catholics. You and BWW are atheists(which in itself is a sort of religion) believe that you are superior to Christians and Catholics and have the audacity to imply that we(Christians and Catholics only follow Christ's commandments when it is "convenient" for us. I give a shit also about you being an atheist. Whatever floats your boat. I care not also if someone is a Hindu, a Buddist, a Muslim, et al. But you and BWW just love to poke spears at Christians and other believers in God. BWW continues to goad me into a fight over it. WHy is that? Why do you two have a need to attack my or anyone's beliefs? You've had a tough life apparently. He is a low-life. I guess it makes you two feel better about yourselves to attack my belief system. Your opinion changes nothing.
It isn't always dutch courage(don't really know what that means) but when I get drunk, my first impulse when confronted by something that I do not like is to fight. Also my PTSD sometimes gets triggered and when faced with its effects, I want to fight. I have continued psych sessions to understand what sets me off and try to control these impulses. I am really not anyone that people would want to set off when these impulses reach a certain point. It is a never ending battle. I really haven't been drunk in a long long time mainly because I do not like what I do or feel when I get drunk.
Okay so let's keep this civilized okay Al? Here's my personal truth. The Catholic church is full of depravity and hypocrites. You can ask me anytime why I feel that way without making assumptions about it. Spreading the word of God's love and then turning around to devastate young children and young adults by sexually abusing them IS hypocrisy. That's what I believe because I know it for the truth that it is. It would be interesting if you could actually offer me proof that it is not. If you could provide me with proof that for the last 40 years this has not been prevalent than I will definitely rethink my position on this. Priests raping little kids is depraved and deplorable and hypocritical to the ninth degree. I suggested that you read the article 'if' you had not already spoken to victims of sex abuse or 'if' you weren't one of the victims yourself. That's all I said. I did NOT say anything about your opinion on #MeToo not being relevant. When I commented that you relentlessly judge people it is because I am reading your posts and that's what I see. Your opinion of actors is a great example. Those are judgements aren't they? Where does it say in the bible that it's okay to judge your brothers and sisters? That IS the point that I'm making Al. I understand that your view of the teachings of the bible is different from mine but I think it is a relevant comment to make. I don't hold myself over anyone Al. And I never said that I am an atheist because I don't care for labels. I simply don't believe in God. I'm not looking for any proof either way because it isn't important to me. I know what I believe and if someone believes something different than me than I have no problem with that. If you feel that it is in the spirit of Christ's words to attack anyone who simply holds a different opinion or perspective from yours than by all means go for it. I think it's very hypocritical to call yourself a christian and act like that. I don't poke spears at anyone's beliefs. What I do is not take everyone at face value. You talk about being a Christian but at the same time you jump on anyone who has a different view of religion from yours. Your discussions with Bww sometimes quite interesting, if only to show how 2 individuals can hold such different viewpoints. I'm not a fan of the fights here and it's a shame that so much time, energy and bandwidth is sacrificed to that.
Dutch courage is strength or confidence gained from drinking alcohol. I don't like how I feel or act when I've had too much to drink. It's embarrassing and stupid.
