babyfan-he was a master at being a functioning alcoholic. many are, but many act totally differently even on 1 beer, let alone 14 ! some people say I am different now without beer. more quiet, less chatty etc. I don't care what I was or wasn't before May 9th. I am never going back to that life. I can't. My body would probably reject it after 22 months and I made too many speeches and promises to quit now. Plus all the coins in AA I worked so hard for would be ruined. I am not doing that. Plus my 2nd year anniversary is this May. I gave a small 5 page summary speech at a meeting on my first year anniversary that brought the house down and had people in tears. if I drank now, I would destroy my reputation and a lot of people's images of me for being a rock now throughout all of this. I won't crumble.

He didn't start drinking until 11 in the morning. So I would say his times of sobriety were pretty short.
The way you said it sounds like he refused to drink anything nonalcoholic. Alcohol and hard drugs are hard to get off of. That is why I believe marijuana should be legalized everywhere and alcohol should be made illegal.
I think that one on one meetings are going to go away unless there is visibility to what is going on in the room and/or a recording of what is said in the room. It'll be like the cameras that cops are made to carry now when they arrest or question someone. Why? Because if someone doesn't take extreme measures to protect themselves, then they can be accused by people with an agenda. As for Hollywood, that is a pretty unusual situation and was know about for decades. It is nothing new whatsoever and a whole lot of people, including a helluva lot of women were complicit in it and took advantage of their beauty and bodies to get ahead.

To baby. I have talked to several victims of rape and sexual abuse. I also have know victims of false charges of rape and sexual harassment. I resent your pathetic insinuation that I do not know anything about either subject. Also, to be blunt, I do not believe that you have 400 good friends who have been raped or abused. Since you tell me that I am not a true Christian and that Catholics are hypocrites, I do not believe that you told the truth about that. Things go both ways. I think that you like to sensationalize things to try and win your "points".
It is not hardly impossible. Victims have certainly fought back and to deny that is asinine. Victims have also approached authorities and had their assaulters convicted of crimes. It is not a cut and dried as you and the author say it is. It also can be a conscious decision to back away and not defend oneself. Maybe the victim herself is not sure of what actually happened, for example.

As for your idiotic assumption about my being just a few years away from high school, I have two bachelor degrees and an MBA. What I said is that people should fight back and overcome their fears. I didn't denigrade anyone who didn't or call them cowards if they didn't. That is a big fucking LIE. Baby and that author talked about this mind freezing stuff and the body refuses to respond like it happens all of the time. It does not. I am a combat veteran with two Bronze stars, a Purple Heart, and an 80% military disability. I know quite a bit about fear and what courage is all about in over-coming it. Nothing is fucking automatic or a right way in handling fear. The thing is that people need to learn how to over-come their fears and the military tries its best to enabling them to do it. I think that regular people need to learn that also when confronted by attackers of any kind. This includes knowing how to fight back legally or at the point of the attack. I also have two sons and a daughter who were all taught how to defend themselves by me and experts also. Fighting back also involves attacking the attacker before he or she can hurt you. I taught all three of my kids that if they are threatened, to attack first and don't let up until the opponent is disabled. My father and a priest in high school taught me that. I do not believe also, in turning the other cheek like some here have advocated. Its a nice theory but it gets one hurt or killed way too often.
I've been an every day drinker for around 40 years or so. So I get it. It never hurt my personal or professional career. But I also never actually considered myself an alcoholic because there have been many days I simply didn't want to drink so I didn't. I always made sure my kids didn't see my hammered and I never made a habit out of drinking and driving. My dad was also a functional alcoholic. He would have a beer with breakfast and then several more throughout the day until dinner when he would drink whiskey. He was a farmer and was up every day before the roosters could crow and worked until sundown every single day. I come from an Irish family where that's just the norm. Not sure why alcoholism being a disease is bad news for me...I don't disagree with that. I don't believe it's hereditary...but more environmental. I do think that genetically....some people are more mentally apt to succumb to addiction. Be if food, drugs, alcohol, porn, or whatever. But at the end of the day....you do put yourself in that position. You make the choice to drink...or not drink. Your hand isn't forced. Your body may crave it....but it's your hand that has to move the bottle to your mouth. You were never not in control. I would still like an answer to my question from anyone here that believes in god or a god. If you believe god can answer the prayers of an alcoholic seeking to fix his life or his habit....why would he ignore the prayers of sick, dying child?
