Nothing wrong with it. But your a fool if you think it will only involve legitimate claims. This is power now, every man has to watch his back. Every woman who is scorned will think about this as a way to get back at him. If people were all honest I wouldn't think twice about this movement. Everything in our world is abused now a days.

What do you think is the cause Al? A cause is a person or thing that gives rise to an action, phenomenon, or condition. It can also be reasonable grounds for doing, thinking, or feeling something. Lastly, a cause can be a principle, aim, or movement that, because of a deep commitment, one is prepared to defend or advocate. So I would assume that the cause we are talking about here on the #MeToo thread is about changing how sexual abuse is regarded and how it is dealt with.
If you read the thread you would see myself and many others here saying we know there will be false claims. But you’d need to remove your head from your own ass in order to read it. So carry on.
babyfan-this is all I know bc I see it in AA weekly...people are struggling with daily sobriety. a guy who is 67 relapsed 3 times last year after months in rehab. he keeps coming back for his 24 hr coin too. he says he wants to quit but keeps going back to it. to me he doesn't seem ready. for me - I wanted to live and the 1 thing I love the most - drinking, I was willing to sacrifice in order to live. I was prepared to make sacrifices and promises to live again. I don't think this guy in AA is doing the same as well as many other people I meet. I also think that's why they struggle with daily sobriety and I can be around it and go to ballgames etc and be fine like I said above. for 6 months I couldn't figure it out. then it hit me. God was making my daily and lifelong journey of sobriety easy. I gave my 1 want and need to him. he gave me my life and the craving for it disappear.
Because everyone wants 15 minutes of fame. People always want to say me too. A lot of them will make up crap just to get involved. Everyone wants attention.

I don't know if I agree. I believe that there are lots of causes out in the world which people uphold years later. In terms of #MeToo, this is brand new territory for the world to figure out and there will be mistakes made and some dishonest people might make the waters murky but ... if it's a guarded by people who care I don't think there will be that much abuse of it. And don't worry, I know that I am obscurely naive in a lot of things but I really believe this about #MeToo.
I have nothing against people getting the truth out about rape and sexual abuse. There will be many false accusations along with the true ones.
Dishonest people WILL make the waters murky. And just who are these people guarding the water ? I've got some bad news for you, BF. NOBODY is vetting #MeToo stories. Hell, I could go on-line and post a MeToo story about some dude who raped me when I was a little girl and it would fly right through!
Would you agree that it's early days for this movement? Does anyone know what will happen in the future? Vetting rape and sexual abuse victims is part of a system that's not even perfected yet. I think there's a long way to go before we can determine the dishonest from the honest, and liars from those who are telling the truth. You can make light of this if you want but that won't change the story. This is just the beginning and even if it's a bumpy road ahead victims have learned that they can speak up safely. I'm looking forward to seeing what transpires next. My hope is that the biggest change is change itself.
I think we should give everyone lie detector test including perps and victims and punish the ones that fail the test.
I don't know what the "cause" is. It really is not defined as anything and if you would ask a thousand different people in "it", you'd get a thousand and one different answers. It like the cause for these NFL kneelers. That is supposed to be a "cause" also but these jerks all define their "Cause" differently. Is the cause as you define it dedicated to the removal of any hint of sexual in nature behavior, for example? Is flirting to be punished? Is giving someone a hug, grounds for dismissal from the workplace or a punch in the mouth? Is a joke between two buddies overheard by a third person a sexual offense? I think this really is easy to stop. Just enforce a no tolerance policy for once and for all. LEt the workplace become a no nonsense workplace. Right now, a woman or man for that matter who gives another person a smile, can be considered hitting on that person. So don't smile, don't touch anyone in any manner. Become robots not human beings.
