And in the hopes of redirecting this thread, which is relevant, I thought that you might find this article interesting: http://time.com/time-person-of-the-year-2017-silence-breakers/
Great question Lyman. I think that this is going to cause some real concern amongst victims who have suffered trauma. There is probably nothing that could make a woman feel less 'heard' than when her very real story of hurt and abuse gets buried under questionable stories. Personally I don't understand why anyone would do that. This is a very delicate/traumatic subject for many of us and I do not understand why anyone would choose to derail it by making trauma up just to feel included. That's unreal.
I'm looking forward to reading more about yours and others' thoughts on this. I'm off to teach another yoga class but I'll check in again once I'm home.
Somewhat related (only because it also involves both women and a cause). My late wife was a breast cancer survivor (she passed away due to an unrelated illness). As such, I was always a sucker to donate money to causes for the cure of breast cancer. Once I started, I would get multiple calls from multiple causes for breast cancer research almost weekly. Also, almost once a week, there would be a story on either the local and/or national news about some group sponsoring a walk, complete with pink T-shirts to raise money for breast cancer research. Then it dawned on me. Why just breast cancer? Why not prostate or testicular cancer? Why not lung cancer? Better yet . . . Why not just Cancer research, period? I suspect its because women knew enough to seize the moment and focused their energy on breast cancer because, like it or not, breasts are out there, front and center. The last call I received, I expressed this to the caller (a woman I might add) and told her I would only contribute to a general cancer research group because "men are people too".
Yes there is some truth to the fact that some people involved in the #metoo are just posting/talking so that they can be part of the movement. Why anyone would want to do so is beyond me but people will do it. The metoo movement is doing more than just giving a voice to victims it is also putting a face on sexual assault/rape/abuse. The courage being shown by these victims is nothing short of amazing. To me real victims speaking out will have a much longer positive effect than those just trying to be part of the in crowd.
I brought up morality and that morality was pretty much missing in Hollywood to which you chastised me for and called me not a real Christian. QUESTION THOUGH? What declares you to be an arbiter of my qualifications of being a Christian? How dare you question what I do or don't believe? The fact that you admire BWW so much, consider him a good friend, and just happens to be an atheist, does that entitle you to attack me like you have? You call me out a lot of time on being getting "personal" with you and your good buddy, BWW. I guess his mocking my religion and you standing in his corner explains quite a bit, doesn't it?
That a girl.......Stick up for BWW once again. Couldn't help yourself could you? You did attack my religious beliefs and did call religious people hypocrites. ANd you have stated how much you admire BWW and ignore every vile thing that he says routinely. I am not the one who has a problem. You have the problem and other people who are on this very board understand it also. By the way, this is not "great message board". A great message board would have more participants in it instead of the usual suspects here. And the board moderator or moderators would allow the same rules for everyone. That doesn't happen here at all. Also, I do not mention you and BWW's name in each one of my posts. That is a total exaggeration. BWW responds to me and attacks me at least the same number of times yet the moderator says nothing and frequently posts "likes" when he issues his attacks. I guess that I will need to from now on to HIGHLIGHT your smears of me and my faith. I hate to do this shit, but you are challenging me and I believe in sexual equality so deal with it as the liberated "soul" that you are. Oh wait....."soul" can be a religious term. Hope I don't get exorcised because of it
You LIKED BWW's statement about God. This is a political discussion and not a metaphysical one. God doesn't play a role in this debate because you can't prove his or her existence and god has no bearing on law. If god failed to deliver a message correctly....maybe he/she/it isn't truly the omnipotent deity his followers claim he is. Maybe the bible lied about he/she/its power. This is a political discussion and not a metaphysical one. The below was YOUR POST: ^ Agreed. And didn't your God teach you about judging others @Al in Cal ? They hypocrisy of religion. Illustrated on point.
ANother one of baby's posts. Thanks for playing, baby babyfan said: ↑ This is what I'm talking about Al. You make these broad sweeping statements that show blatant intolerance, hatred and judgements all the time. I was raised in the Catholic church and this ^ is not the way that God expects his children to act. Why do you set yourself apart from other people who follow Christ? Why is it okay for you to make massive judgements on people who you don't know and who's lives you've never experienced? That's what I'm wondering about. If you are questioned about your comments here your 'go-to' is always a personal attack. You profess to be a christian but your words here prove that you are not. It's the hypocrisy and emptiness of religion that you show here. Why does my friendship with Bww trigger you so much? Because I respect the way he thinks and the way he communicates here? Why does that have anything to do with you? That's your take on it Al, but it is not what I said. That's what YOU have read into my statement. The subject here is #METOO. It's not about Bww or me or anyone else. Discuss the subject, not the participants. That's how to have a mature discussion.
You don't understand why anyone would do it? Come-on. People LIE all of the time to get attention. Even on this board.
Sure. This happens in virtually all issues put out for publicity by outfits like BLM which itself was founded on obvious lies. The so-called ANTIFA movement whose name itself belies the fact that it itself is a fascist organization. This Metoo movement is something that originally started with decent good intentions but got taken over by opportunists piling on just like these other "causes".
YOu did not say in your post.........."You profess to be a "christian by your words here PROVE that you are not"? And my personal unfavorite......."It's the HYPOCRISY AND EMPTINESS of RELIGION" that you show here. YOu challenged me, babyfan and I delivered. OWN IT YOURSELF! Admit your own biases, baby.
What crisis? You know 400 women and all of them have been abused and/or raped? Do you know any other women who haven't been raped or abused? Also how "well" do you know these women so well that they will open up to you and your concern about the subject. And how many of these women do you know 100% are supposedly telling the truth? Do you really think that this is somehow believable. IF so, why not call a meeting and have law enforcement there for them to file rape charges against their violators?
First of all Lyman, my sympathies for the loss of your wife. That's one of the things that irks me about cancer specific fundraiser drives Lyman. I guess it makes people feel better, and makes them feel more involved when they donate to a specific type of cancer research. Especially when you've lost someone you love to that particular disease. It's such a huge disease so I guess they raise funds for specific types of cancer in order to direct some of the funds their way. The thing is it's all cancer.
I really stand behind what you said here Jean. Even if X number of people decide to join the movement just for the sake of being a part of something ... there are the real victims who are being heard through the mouths of everyone who is taking a stand through this crisis. And I totally agree with you, as difficult as it is to actually put those words of hurt out there ... that's the courage that we're asking of all of these people touched by this abuse.
