Always said with DeShone it wasn't inaccurate as it was inconsistent. That's more along the lines of Josh Allen - when it's pretty, it's gorgeous. But it's book-ended by 5-6 garbage throws. Jackson doesn't seem to be inconsistent as much as he's not trusting what he's seeing and he's still a work-in-progress from within the pocket. What's alarming was that Kizer was very good in college off play-action and from within the pocket... and he was historically bad in those areas at the next level - he actually regressed. And it's not Kizer's fault... that's on Hue.
I agree. He will have to change his game. Lamar rushed for over 4000 yards at Louisville. That sort of running volume will get him hurt in the NFL... I honestly think Jackson's future is at WR....And I hate to see him waste some prime years, like Terrelle Pryor did, trying to play QB. It's hard to hit those tight windows in the NFL, and I really worry about him being able to do it. Another thing that may work against him is, he'll have to find a team willing to style their entire offense around him. They will likely need a back-up QB with similar skill set, and there's just a lot that goes into it... I was huge Mike Vick fan, so if he wants to go for it, and he can find a team willing to commit, then it would be fun to watch...Maybe Vrabel would put him behind Mariota, and then bring in some "Lamar packages", Kordell Stewart style......Who know's. He's a helluva talent that will find a spot in the NFL one way or the other..
Yeah... we hired the wrong coach in 2016. Imagine a guy like Doug Pederson who actually can develop a quarterback, uses analytics, and works well with his front office in Cleveland.
It's funny that you mention that, because I was thinking about Jackson as a target for LAC the other day...What if a team like the Chargers did give a player like LJ an average of 12 snaps a week? The defense that spends the week preparing for the deadly but stationary Phillip Rivers, also has to prepare the complete opposite in the dynamic of Lamar Jackson...I think that has the potential to give defensive coordinators fits.
Listed at 6'3" and 211 pounds, he's never missed a game. Contrasted to @showstopper's boy, Rosen, who's missed a ton of time (listed at 6'4" 220 pounds) with shoulder injury, concussions, knees, etc. I agree with you, a running style of QB will not work. Watching Jackson progress from freshman to junior, he spent more time from within the pocket but ran the offense that was asked of him by his program. At the NFL level, any coach who tried to run him that much deserves a life-time ban (like Mike Shannahan when he wrecked Bob Griffin). Assuming he measures well at the Combine (let's say he comes in a 6'3" and 220 pounds, having added muscle in the offseason), you're talking about a guy with an NFL-caliber arm, 4.3 speed, prototype size, and - by all accounts - top-notch personality and leadership. That's a serious weapon any NFL team could use and - if used appropriately - has the ability to be something special. The inverse is true, too... if he measures under list (let's say 6'3" and 206 pounds), then there are concerns. The same concerns I have with guys like Rosen, too. And since I think a can brimming with burning garbage is a better developer of talent and coach than Hue Jackson, I absolutely do not want Jackson coming to Cleveland. But I do think in the right system and with the right coach, he has the potential to be a Top 10 guy.
I think the injury concerns are less about the height/weight ratio and more about how that weight is proportioned to his frame. He's kind of spindly past the mid thigh and guys like that tend to end up with lower limb injuries at some point (think Marcus Lattimore). If he does add weight, he can't take the David Boston route and develop his upper body without developing his legs. Jackson with an additional 15-20 pounds of calf and lower femoris muscle would probably ease that concern some.
Yeah the Browns shouldn't consider LJ.....If we had him and Kizer; No harm would ever come to this^^^
I read an article earlier about post season awards possibilities. This actually might happen; COACH OF THE YEAR: Sean McVay NFL MVP; Todd Gurley OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Todd Gurley DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Aaron Donald An awards sweep for the Rams...I can't remember any team pulling that off. Mcvay and Gurley are locks IMO. And then a rookie sweep for the Saints, which I absolutely expect, and can't think of a time that happened before either.... OROY: Alvin Kamara DROY: Marshawn Lattimore ^^^That's impressive.
All this talk of Jackson and an NFL team willing to change their style for him...the idea isn't far fetched. Teams have been increasingly incorporating more RPO concepts to aid their young QBs. The implementation of the concepts keeps the younger guys more comfortable while acclimating all while being done without putting the focus on QB runs. I don think in todays NFL the question should be "if" it can be done, but by whom? If Tebow, Bortles, and hundreds of other college QBs can come into the league and not be switched to TE/FB/WR, there is no reason to think Jackson needs to.
It's safe to say that opinions are all over the place on Jackson; https://www.canalstreetchronicles.c...-darnold-josh-allen-baker-mayfield-josh-rosen
Well John Dorsey pulled this kid into a 40 minute interview session during Senior Bowl week, which upset some other teams that wanted to talk to him. Evidently they were only supposed to be brief 15 minute sessions, so it's easy to conclude that Cleveland has interest: http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/article-5/Marcus-Davenport-hopes-to-be-as-good-as-Myles-Garrett-‘I-was-always-looking-up-to-him’/f21c6ab3-efa4-40db-920a-fa2722783c63
If the tweet doesn't show up because you're blocked by him (Grossi), the transcript is as follows: "Free agent QB Kirk Cousins making the rounds today. His repeated message in choosing a team: "It’s all about winning. If you’re not winning, the rest doesn’t matter. If you are winning, it’s all that matters."
A few weeks back I did a Browns mock and has us taking this guy at #35, but there's just no way he's gonna be there; I'm about ready to put Tremaine in the "can't miss" category.
Another guy to watch out for: Doesn't get near enough chatter....He could fit Gregg Williams' system very well...
