Your last line is important. Many blame the Church for what people do in the name of the Church, rather than what the Church does.

Everyone is susceptible to error. Some are so inured of their errors that they become corrupted to their core. The Church is not at fault with this. The fault lies with the individual. Remember, Judas, selected by Jesus Himself, committed one of the most egregious acts in history while a foundational member of the Church. We should not be surprised that some priests and bishops are vulnerable and guilty of travesties.

 

In no way would any recognized religious institution condone pedophilia. The question is why at one time there was such a regular occurance in many parts of north america when in relation to catholicism

My take is the celibacy mandate could've played a role in attracting some of the "wrong type."

some is putting it mildly. i know a key figure in the philadelphia 5 points priest sex scandal. he came forward and made claims and brought a ton of priest down. sadly it cost him his cousin, who was also a victim, but couldn't live with the shame of being one of the accused and took his own life. now none of these victims got any settlement money, but the lawman going after the accused priests etc is a victim himself from somewhere else, but now he resides in Philly. Philly is just 1 city and this is 1 example of this going on. Skinny mentioned small cities. i bet this is small and large across the nation and other parts of the World. this figure i know was a victim for 5 yrs. they are over 100 boys in the 5 points scandal who were victims. that alone is a large number. imagine that times the other parishes in the world? wow.

maybe that's like the Willie Wonka 3 meals in a single candy. for PHIL it's not candy or food intake and the machine just pumps it into his stomach. all the pizza and hotdogs without the actual food. that's why he looks so happy. he's being virtually fed.
