Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know that part. But I'm looking at these numbers and want to make sure that I know what they mean. I'm just curious. Not trying to conquer Vegas or anything like that. It's just for fun.

If you're really interested SoCal and you can't find the answers here you could always ask @BearsWillWin . He's done a lot of betting in his time. He would explain it to you, I'm sure.

    Don't have to PM.
When on the moneyline you are betting a team to win straight up. When there is a spread involved you will see the number with a + or - in front of it.
So say New York is -6.5 vs Chicago. That means they are giving 6.5 points. An easy way to remember what to do is simply take the final score and then add your spread.
So let's say the final score is 21-15 New York and you bet them to cover -6.5 points and someone else took Chicago at +6.5. Who wins? Well take the scores and add the spreads.
For New York 21+(-6.5)=14.5 (adding a negative number becomes subtraction after the fact)
So their spread score is 14.5-15. They lost if they gave up the points so you lose the bet.

For Chicago 15+6.5=21.5. So the final score after adjusting for the bet is 21-21.5 for Chicago. You would win this bet.
PK is essentially a moneyline bet as the spread is 0.

If the score is ever a tie it's a push and it isn't calculated in your winnings. Usually it's just your money back.

Now that is the basics. Next is the odds. On an even action bet it is almost always slightly negative and this is due to the vigorish or simply vig, more commonly known as juice or the house cut or take. You will see on any bet that there is a number next to it like -110 or +200. This is your multiplier. When you see a negative number it means you will bet more than you will win on an individual bet(Almost all spread bets that aren't teaser and when betting the fav on the moneyline). When it's a positive you will win more than you give (normally when you pick an underdog outright). On spread bets where they try to get even money one both sides of the action you will usually see the vig at -110 and sometimes around -105 or -120. Usually when it's at -120 or even at EVEN money or +110 or so it means the money is tilted one way and before they move the betting line (point spread) they may want to get some more bets to keep them from having to do that.

So as an example, you may have seen the moneyline as Eagles +170 and the Patriots as -200.
For every $100 you bet on the Eagles you would win $170 (plus your original wager back).
However, to win $100 on the Patriots you would have to bet $200 yourself.
So, for every $100 bet on the Patriots you would win $50.

If you make a parlay(multiple bets at one where they usually all have to be correct to win) you would have to multiply all the vigs together to figure out how much you'd win. It's complicated. Imagine you bet 3 games together. Just understand you are essentially putting all your money on 1 bet with a vig on whatever is listed and then using those hypothetical winnings on the 2nd event you bet on with a new vig and so on until all events are theoretically bet on one at a time with the accumulated winnings on the final bet being the all or nothing winnings. Although some parlays take a cut up front with the odds themselves without worrying about the moneyline numbers, assuming it's all even bets (both sides get equal action like on a spread).

If you don't get anything just ask. I hope I didn't get too complicated.

Thank you Joe. That's kind of what I thought it was. Just wanted to be sure. The reason I ask is that there was a conversation earlier this year that if I knew so much about Pick'Em football, why wasn't I living in Vegas making millions of dollars. Well, that got my curiosity up. Can I theoretically bet every game using the same picks that I make here and make money by the end of the season. Somehow I doubt it. But it would be interesting to see how I do. I could re create last season, but I can't find a web site that has an archive section that goes back and covers the entire season. So, I'll wait 'till next year to do this. Stay tuned.

Games you win in pickems that win wouldn't all be wins in the gambling world. It is a lot different picking against the spread.

    That's what I do best.

She'd better. I'm flying across an entire continent to do what I used to do by walking out my back door to fix what her horses broke.

Wait a minute. I'm 61 years old. She's 30. She's seen me at my best ,,,,,,,,,, and my worst. If I'm being an ass ??? She'll just smile and tell me she loves me !!!!!! I've done the same with her.
