I agree with the immediate results notion, but I guess all this hype (real or artificially built) for this QB class had me thinking that if the Ravens were to address the QB position sooner rather than later, this might be the opportunity to do so since the talent pool is supposedly so deep. Is the philosophy nowadays to be a year too early or a year too late with the main position on your team?
Smart teams would be a year too early. We'll see what the Ravens do. I agree they may want to move on from Flacco soon enough, but at the same time I also think can still play championship football. After Pitta called out the offensive scheme, things changed. The play calling got better and we say a decent, not elite or great, but a pretty decent offense in the second half of the season. And that was with a WR corp that nobody in their right mind would even consider any better than "trash".
If a phone charger causes the Ravens to spend a first round pick on a DB, I'll give up on his team. Side note, man that's a stupid move by Humphrey
He might get suspended a couple of games, but you guys don't have to worry about losing him. He has a million or two signing bonus in the bank and his 900 K salary. Why is he getting arrested over a 15 dollar charger? A lot of these players may be great at football but they have zero life skills. You have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, know when to run.
#16 pick, his signing bonus was $6.8M and his first year salary was $1M. He told the Ravens it was a misunderstanding and he thought the charger was his. The investigation is going down at the University of Alabama, as opposed to some store (like Verizon or Apple). So there's a chance it really is a misunderstanding. Or at least I pray a guy who just put $7.8M in his bank account this past year didn't really try to steal a fifteen dollar charger
I wasn't sure what the exact figures were but I knew he was a millionaire. My point was whether it was his or the driver's it wasn't worth getting locked up over. Now if you had no money and you needed that charger to be able to make your livelihood then you might have to make sure you get it.
I highly doubt very much that Humphrey misses any time let alone necessitate a DB pick at #16. I further doubt that they draft a QB too. Most mocks have them taking a playmaker like Ridley, Sutton or Guice. Some have them taking an OT like McGlinchy or Connor On another note it looks like Suggs might be ready to retire. Makes me wonder if pass rusher is now a priority.
In all honesty, if they go with a pass rusher in the first round, it'll be acknowledgement that they don't trust their own draft picks anymore. Judon was starting to come on, Bowser and Williams (2nd and 3rd round picks) were barely used, and even Z.Smith started the season strong before getting hurt. Are any of them Suggs, no. But if they trust their draft board, these players, and a competent DC, shouldn't require the use of a first round pick at pass rusher. Plus I'll simply be pissed they didn't go offense after what we had around Joe last year
in a recent interview, it seems Eric DeCosta does not see the value of the wideouts in the first round and it looks like the top guys might be gone when we pick. I could see us dropping back and gathering a few more picks and getting a receiver in the latter part of the first round and still getting a playmaker. Is there any idea as to what the comp picks will look like for the Ravens this year? I think I had seen an estimate that said the Ricky Wagner loss could net us a 3rd rounder but is that too optimistic or is that realistic. I know the contract was large and he did play a lot up until he was injured, so third round does not seem to out of scope. Link to the article: http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news...d-Rounds/53b517e3-765c-4aa7-a1ea-a1a8880f7d69 I understand this is all speculation and pre-draft misdirection but if you all had a perfect scenario in your mind, what would it be? I think mine would be something like this: Trade back in the first round, say around the 25ish mark and still take a wide receiver there. Second round solidify the O-Line with perhaps a center or right tackle Third round see what running backs or TE prospects are there Fourth round take a look to double down potentially on WR if a solid prospect drops OR nab a CB to help depth if Carr is not going to be back. 5th round we could go several ways but round out the last few round with QB depth, LB depth, OL depth and DL depth. Who knows, the possibilities are endless based on what happens in front of us. The good part is that, with so many QB prospects looking to be potentially taken in the first round, that pushes good players down to us or allows us to be a potential trade partner to allow a QB needy team to jump up back in to the middle of the first to nab a guy who falls. We can dream, right?
Wagner became that highest paid RT in the league, if I'm not mistaken, and started 13 games before injury. Considering contract is a huge part of the comp process from what I recall, and games played also being a big factor, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get the team a 3rd round comp pick. I have no new draft scenario. DeCosta's comment about the real value at WR being in the 2nd and 3rd round makes me think they'll wait until the 4th round to get a WR "that was graded as a second rounder". I guess the whole concept about the front office not valuing offense is true EDIT: If they do wait until the second round for a WR, I'm all for DJ Moore or Simmie Cobbs Jr.
I'm not a fan. I don't think the Ravens need to keep chasing the speedy WRs, but he just seems super slow to me
So the Chiefs just traded Alex Smith to the Skins. This will through off every mock now where they are taking Baker Mayfield or some other QB at #13 and the Ravens with Calvin Ridley (or Sutton) at #16. Smith signed a 4 yr, $94M deal ($71M guaranteed) which seems really stupid to do in this draft if you're ready to move on from Cousins which they apparently are. They then might now be in the hunt for a top WR prospect so Sutton and Ridley are likely off the boards for sure now. Time to rethink what we want to do now fellas. OL might be the best grab now or OLB/DE if Suggs retires.
I doubt they were going WR in the first anyway, at least not after DeCosta's words and remembering the general Ravens mindset. That said, I'd hate to see them jump to replace Suggs also with a first rounder. Judon, Z.Smith, plus a 2nd and 3rd rounder from last season that they barely used. I'm all in for getting a top end o-lineman though. #16 feels too high for a guard, but if there's a can't miss prospect then go for it. Or a RT that can play better than our last few RTs. If they go defense, then a top end ILB would be my pick, although I don't know who ranks that high this year. Onwasur isn't the answer, even if fans like him, and I'm not sure Mosley is too hot or cold for my liking. Maybe a top safety prospect to so Weddle can get his walking papers sooner than later
I'm not denying that he doesn't make plays. But a lot of his highlights, as well as physical talents, remind me of Jaelen Strong who also made contested catches and plays in college but with questionable speed. I could be wrong though
What I see in Hammy is another body catcher. He benefitted from a lot of college level defensive mistakes and will struggle at the pro level. He has a very small catch radius.
But how does that differ from what I said. We were talking about a WR at #16. I don't think that he fits the picture for that do you? Even so, I'm assuming you don't think that it's worth drafting a #2 WR with a high pick. I think that at best he's a late 2nd rounder imo.
