Most of my misses have probably been at WR, although the jury is still out on many and I have hit on quite a few. It takes almost their whole rookie contract before you can pass judgment. I have hit on quite a few as well that many did not think highly of but my misses hurt the most on there. I have more hits than misses on as a whole and maybe at WR as well but when it comes to remembering certain misses I gotta look back at notes and draft classes to refresh my memory at times as to who they were exactly, not as much the quantity. P.S. If my grammar made reading it confusing I didn't want to edit it as it was enough of a headache writing that.
Lol, thanks for the PS, I was like "what??"...all I got out of it is, you suck at WR evaluations, but are a genius at every other position...am I close?
I don't have one position really that sticks out for misses. It's basically a smattering at random. I'll give an example that will get the attention of some of the folks here... I have gone over Cam Erving's score and reviewed his tape every season since his draft, just to try and improve on scoring offensive linemen. There are things that I had in his score that were off just enough to bump him up to a number that has just not translated at the pro level. It's been something that I have used to refine the way I weigh different aspects for offensive lineman to try and avoid something like that happening in the future, but my totals for Cam were very good in 2015. He was my 6th rated offensive lineman for that class, something that has proven to be juuuuuust a bit outside, lol.
There was a bit of a positive spin at WR but for the most part while I can find good WR talent outside the 1st round, I have struck out quite a bit on 1st rounders. Look at 2015 for example. Kevin White, Breshad Perriman. But I did endorse Tyler Lockett, Stefon Diggs. I hated Devin Funchess and Phillip Dorsett. One looks dumb and the other genius. As for my Eagle Nelson Agholor I'm not taking credit either way. I didn't really judge him. I didn't really have an opinion either way. He looks good now though.
You really don't have to keep track of your whiffs. So, sleep well at night . . . we will do that for you!
We all have our moments. Johnny still haunts me....He was such a polarizing player, and pre-draft, there were strong opinions about Johnny in both directions. Some loved him and some hated him. And for those of us that loved him, those that hated him will never let us forget...
I wonder if my old published Manziel prospect evaluation is still hanging around somewhere. It may be lost with the old site and my broken hard drives. That is the most accurate I've been because you can't beat 100% accuracy on a bunch of issues. I'll pat my self on the back on that one along with a few . I do still want you guys to get a franchise QB and all, and soon. I'm just not gonna change my thoughts on guys just to make a group of people feel better or just to keep them from thinking I am picking on them. So get Mayfield, or Rosen. I'm still looking into Rudolph, and I don't think you should gamble on Jackson that soon. He could be great like Watson (very lazy comparison) but he isn't worth the risk that soon. Too much possible error compared to other types of QBs and not as many intangibles as Watson IMO. As for Allen, only if you get a multi-year stud vet to start over him. Now he's probably joining my CFL team. Although his game if he stays disciplined does seem to fit very well within a typical CFL system.
As of right now I would really like to see Mayfield to the Browns and Rosen to the Giants behind Eli for a year or two (or 3 since he could be stuck like Jimmy G was). I do think Rosen could play now but time behind a comparable QB like Manning would help his odds immensely.
The Jaguars are now heavily involved in scouting Mason Rudolph. I immediately endorse this potential union of player and franchise.
Ideal QB world... 1 (CLE) - Baker Mayfield 2 (NYG) - Sam Darnold (sit behind Eli for 2-3 years) 5 (DEN) - EXCLUDED - they sign Kirk Cousins 6 (NYJ) - Josh Rosen 13 (WAS) - Lamar Jackson 15 (ARI) - Josh Allen 29 (JAX) - Mason Rudolph
Jags need a QB that can play now though. Alex Smith would be great. I hear Tyrod Taylor rumours and I would not like that for them but it'd be better than Bortles if they also drafted Rudolph. I dunno if they could trade for Smith and draft Rudolph. Likely not. Bortles and Rudolph? That'd be a mistake. Heading into this year I picked the Jags to do well (I did pick them in SoCal's challenge). They had amassed all the peices they needed on offense and defense over the last 2 offseasons, using their huge cap spaces on key pieces when available. The window could close faster than they think if the offense regresses again like it did last year. This year they succeeded despite passing struggles. The Jags were and still are a team built to contend for a SB run, they can't jeopardize that by half-assing it at QB when they have been going 100% at every other position.
At this point in the process, Mason Rudolph is outscoring Blake Bortles by a wide margin so I believe that he has more than a punchers chance of winning that starting gig outright if drafted to Jacksonville. Tom Coughlin would prefer a competent veteran to take over, but whether or not that becomes a possibility is yet to be seen. I think Kirk Cousins would be doing himself a huge favor by working out a long term deal with Jacksonville that gets him his 'Stafford cash' without crippling the franchise. It immediately puts him in the cat seat to win a lot of football games and get plenty of short fields and scoring opportunities off the work of a stout defense. I've mentioned somewhere else on the board that Alex Smith would be my ideal candidate to take over in Jacksonville.
I think you know what I mean. It's not about beating Bortles but about not letting this window go away. If I were the Jags and I had to choose between Smith or Rudolph I'd have to think Rudolph is a day 1 stud or else I go Smith all day. If I still wanted Rudolph I'd try to get a proven vet to be penciled in at #1 either way and if Rudolph beats him out then so be it. If Cousins is smart he'd go to Jacksonville. Forget the big name in Denver, forget the rebuilding Browns. The Jags are set. They just need a QB before they lose supporting talent. All this talk about the Rams and how they turned around and how close they are to being great in all facets.... well their goal is the Jags, minus the QB part.
I see you added this. Yes, you have mentioned it. I have seconded that opinion before. He would be the best fit. Although, they'd be the best fit for many QBs as well. They are that set up for success. They are only overlooked because of the logo on their jerseys. Now watch them fall apart next year despite getting a QB.
