The picture on the left is John Dorsey repeatedly using the term "fake news", a term coined by Donald Trump and his supporters. The picture on the left is Josh Rosen wearing a hat that says "F*ck Trump" while also saying the same thing on the Instragram post he made.
Sounds like Dorsey really likes Davenport. Spoiler ahead: so does everyone else. Too rich at #4 and won't be there at #33 if all the recent buzz is to be believed.
My preferred option: If we can get it done with our late 2nd rounder from Philly, and maybe a future 4th, I'd go after Alex Smith.....Main reason: We are sitting with the #1 pick of the draft. We aren't spending that on a QB if we just made Cousins the richest contract ever. But we are likely to grab the top QB prospect if we have Smith... IMO, we would be just as solid with Smith taking snaps in 2018 as with Cousins, and we just might nab the next great QB to come into this league. A guy we could bring along the right way for a change...I would hate to pass up that opportunity, and to SAS's point, we would be passing on all the top QB prospects in what many are saying is an extremely talented QB class, if we signed Captain Kirk in free agency.... Cousins would be plan #2 for me....But it's close, and I'b be freaking ecstatic either way...
The difference is if we draft the franchise QB now - and play them on a very team-friendly contract - the team ages as a group. This is like the situation Seattle found themselves in, which also started to struggle when all those players' contracts came due and they needed extensions. I'm not saying he isn't a valuable piece. But if the number most folks are throwing around - $30 million - is the price, he's not anywhere near worth that to me. Especially if you can get an Alex Smith for about half.
Well Joe Thomas mentioned $35m per for Cousins, with him collecting the first full $35m on day of signing.
You do realize Dorsey could sign Cousins TWICE and Leveon Bell FOUR times and STILL be under the salary cap enough to sign ALL of the draft picks? Besides . . . Its not your money !
Besides "internal struggles", we all know the reason John Dorsey lost his job with Kansas City is because he was terrible at managing the cap... right?
OK but that doesnt mean you pay a guy who doesnt deserve that amount of $$...then when you have other FA's you are stuck
Let's call a spade a spade, you get Alex Smith for $17M in 2018...however, if that rookie isn't ready to take over by about week 3, you need to extend Alex Smith. This $17M was part of the $20.6M the Chiefs would pay him on the tail of a 4 year contract. Re-signing Smith will most likely be closer to $24-25M per extended year. So, you are talking about $5M per year for a guy who is 4 years younger, 3% points lower on career completion percentage, Cousins Averages 25 TD per year as a starter, Smith has only thrown 25 TDs (26) once in his 12 years in the NFL. Here's the kicker... You sign Cousins, you have all your draft picks and a starting caliber QB for the next 4-5 years at least, less $5M per year in cap space You trade for Smith, you lose a 2nd rounder (I will assume) and may need a QB in 2019 once again if he isn't happy with his situation and wants to leave via free agency. That 2nd rounder could be a very valuable commodity to help this team become a winning franchise, especially if it is one of the earlier 2nd rounders. I have to ask: I just did two mock drafts through Fanspeak using the same criteria (Daniel Jeremiah's rankings) except for the Cousins vs. Smith argument..this is how the first two rounds turned out Cousins + #1 Saquon Barkley RB Penn State (#1 rated player on this list) + #4 Minkah Fitzpatrick FS/CB Alabama (#2 rated player on this list) + #33 Rashan Evans ILB Alabama (#16 rated player on this list) + #35 Christian Kirk WR Texas A&M + # 63 Jaire Alexander CB Louisville (#65 rated player on this list) Smith + #1 Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma (#14 rated player on this list, 4th rated QB, even though I disagree with these rankings) + #4 Minkah Fitzpatrick (Barkley was gone) + #33 Sony Michel (#32 rated player on this list, must have since no Barkley) + #35 Carlton Davis CB Auburn (#31 rated player on this list) +...that's it, no more 2nd rounders Cousins +$5M per year Barkley Fitzpatrick Evans Kirk Alexander Smith -2nd rounder in 2018 (you've all discussed scenarios where it will also take away a 2019 draft pick another -) Mayfield Fitzpatrick Michel Davis So, in scenario #1, we add 5 quality players to our new QB in 2018 to help this team achieve much greater things as a whole In scenario #2, we only add 3 quality players to our (2) new QBs to help this team achieve less greater things as a whole, imho... See, where I'm going here...all because you wanted to save $5M per year in years 2019-2022
YOU KNOW I love Baker Mayfield SAS, I have pined for him as the best in class for a long time now. It really isn't a campaign against Mayfield..In fact he is my #2 option. It's just a rare occasion that an opportunity comes along for a team to sign a top caliber QB in free agency...Now, in the end, this may be a finely played ploy by Cousins to maximize his contract offer from the Redskins, my hats off to him if it is. That they would be willing to let him go really shocks me to say the least. If he is re-signed by Washington, my butt will be fully planted back in the Mayfield or bust seat on the bus.
Sadly, that's true...I'm not sure that is in his job description here though, I think DePodesta is in charge of that aspect.
For all the Sashi bashing, the dude was doing exactly what he said he was going to do. As far as letting talent walk, he was just dumping high priced players and locker room cancers to build up to the crescendo, being the 2018 season. Pryor made a decision. Idk.. really, none of us do.
Honestly Lym I'm not entirely sure about this one. From what little research I've done. Fans of his former team felt the same way we have about Tabor. Time will tell if ST improves or not. It's gotta get better doesn't it?
