Under Haley, the Steelers offensive rankings

2017 3rd (Contract not renewed because of butt hurt players)
    2016 7th
    2015 3rd
    2014 2nd
2013 20th (patience paid off down the road)
    2012 21st

Under Haley the Steelers ranking in points scored
2017 8th (Contract not renewed because of butt hurt players)
    2016 10th
    2015 4th
    2014 7th
2013 16th (patience paid off down the road)
    2012 22nd

YEAH,, I'd be excited to get rid of that too...

If they sign Haley, it will be imperative that the Browns select Saquon Barkley #1 overall. He WILL utilize him.

  3. Cmon Irish we know why those rankings are where they are.....its called Ben, Brown and Bell

  4. demolisher43 Franchise Player Steelers

2013: Mike Munchak hired, Le'Veon Bell drafted, David DeCastro plays 15 games after missing nearly his entire rookie season, Antonio Brown posts first 100-catch season

2014: Martavis Bryant drafted, Le'Veon Bell plays all 16 games

2015: DeAngelo Williams maintains rushing production after Bell gets knee shredded in the sixth game of the season, core of the offense remains intact

2016: Year in transition without Heath Miller and Martavis Bryant suspended (explaining drop in production IMO), core of the offense remains otherwise intact

2017: Martavis Bryant returns, JuJu Smith-Schuster drafted

Todd Haley certainly changed the offense from when Bruce Arians called the shots, and I hate to brag (especially here, so please forgive me), but he was working with possibly the deepest and most talented offense in the NFL over the six years he spent as our OC. I spat fire all over him on the Steelers board all week, but in short, Haley gets too cute with his playcalls at the most frustrating of times. That stems from massive ego and unwillingness to adapt to game circumstances. It kills promising drives, often when the team needs to maintain those drives the most.

Look at 2017. Ben Roethlisberger came out of the gate playing like crap. After being able to post 3 points on the freaking Colts for about three quarters before coming from behind and winning 20-17, Ben reportedly asked that then-QB coach Randy Fichtner be used as a buffer between he and Haley for the remainder of the season. The result? Ben tears it up in every game thereafter. Haley's abrasive and is a detriment to team chemistry among players and coaches - three offensive positional coaches left after one season working with Haley because they reportedly couldn't take it.

I wish luck on the Browns as they search for their OC, but Haley would not be good for such a young team. The offensive success the Steelers have maintained over the last few years have been in spite of Haley, not because of him, because the Steelers' FO has been dynamite finding great offensive talent in recent drafts.

Then again, it's possible Haley saw what he had to work with and was like, "Ah, f*ck it, I can make this work," and called plays that were actually a terrible idea on a semi-frequent basis. Nonetheless, Haley's had one good year that I can think of as a coach outside of Pittsburgh - as OC for the Cardinals in 2008.

I have seen Josh Gordon listed on a list of top FA for this offseason. What is that guy's contract status?

Exclusive Rights Free Agents– Players with less than two accrued seasons are the exclusive property of their former team provided the team makes a one year tender offer for the minimum salary. So for a player that was in his first year in 2014 on a $420,000 contract, the team will place a $510,000 tender on the player and own his rights, assuming he earned a credited season (if no credited season was earned the player woud receive a $435,000 tender). Unlike RFA’s the ERFA is not allowed to negotiate a contract with another team once the tender is applied. Essentially they are locked in for another season with their original team. If no tender is made or the tender is rescinded then the player becomes and unrestricted free agent. If that occurs they do not factor into the compensatory equation. Tenders count on the salary cap as soon as applied, provided they count in the Top 51, which they usually do not.
Sportrac has listed Josh Gordon as an EFRA.

Just to add, they have to wait to extend these according to league calendar. But, until it is done, he will be listed as a "potential" free agent.

Yep...Cousins, Barkley and Gordon...Make him look like a genius

  9. None of those 3 compare...all a step 1 1/2 below

That's true, Haley may go to the HOF with this step up in talent, although I think you may be a bit presumptuous saying Barkley is a step up from Bell...hell, he isn't even a pro yet.

    Past three seasons:
    Roethlisberger:
    2015 68.0% 3,938yds, 21TDs, 16INTs
    2016 64.4% 3,819yds, 29TDs, 13INTs
    2017 64.2% 4,251yds, 28TDs, 14INTs
    3YR totals 65.5% 12,008yds, 78TDs, 43INTs

Cousins (without Brown and Bell on the roster):
    2015 69.8% 4,166yds, 29TDs, 11INTs
    2016 70.0% 4,917yds, 25TDs, 12INTs
    2017 64.3% 4,093yds, 27TDs, 13INTs
    3YR totals 68% 13,176yds, 81TDs, 36INTs

Cousins REALLY is markedly better than Roethlisberger, you're right Stopper...

Is it too early to say Doug Pederson > Carson Wentz?

Maybe analytics weren’t wrong about him...

That's true, Cousins doesn't have a Bell Or a Brown on the Skins. The point is, you know he is capable when needed to step up. With weapons similar to Roethlisberger, he would be capable of running an offense like Ben has. THAT is the point. Who you got on the Browns currently that you can say the same about? If no one, (which duh, we know the rhetorical question answer) then who are YOU getting to run this offense? Josh Rosen??? He couldn't lead his team to a major bowl game in the 3 years he was the QB. What on earth makes you think he can win playoff games in the Pros?

If that is your measuring stick for a successful QB, the playoffs, then at the very least a major bowl game should be your measuring stick for your college football prospect, no?!

Rosen has only had ONE winning season in his three years as starter, that was 3 years ago...:

Freshman 8-4 Foster Farms Bowl (LOST 29-37)
Sophomore 4-8 No Bowl game at all, Rosen only started 6 games..He went 3-3...so no, the team didn't exactly fall apart without him, they were only slightly better with him.
Junior 6-7 Cactus Bowl (LOST 17-35, As we all know Rosen didn't play in this game**Concussion) 6 of the 7 losses, he took part in though.
This coming after three consecutive seasons of the Bruins having winning seasons under Coach Jim Mora. This is the guy you declared in December as "your guy"...The only other guy you have backed is Sam Darnold...

Here is what he has done at USC:
He started 2 out of his 3 seasons at USC and went 10-3 and 11-3
RS Freshman 10-3 Rose Bowl (not part of playoff)
RS Sophomore 11-3 Cotton Bowl (not part of playoff) We all know what happened against a top college defense in this game...he withered and fell 57.8% completion, he did have 358 garbage yards, but 0 TDs to 1 INT.

Now, the guy you say has no chance in the NFL has started 4 years in college:
2014 (Texas Tech) 5-3..no big deal they were 2-3 when he took over and got them into a bowl game

transfer to Oklahoma and the Sooners went from 2nd in conference and 4th in conference to 3 consecutive conference titles and culminating in playing in the National Championship game where he/they lost to the Tide 48-54 in OT. Career at Oklahoma, 11-2. 11-2, 12-2.

Josh Rosen 18-19 (Only had one winning season)
Sam Darnold 21-6 (Better than Rosen, but 17 wins away from Mayfield since he only started 2 college seasons)
Baker Mayfield 38-9 (never a losing season)

So, I'll ask again...if not Cousins, then who would YOU suggest take over for this Browns team in 2018?

  15. Actually my measuring stick is SB champs....all the other stuff is window dressing...you play to win the SB every yr...if you dont you failed....winning 1, 7, 14 games and not winning the SB is meaningless IMO

So that's why your ass is so freaking cranky. There isn't a team, ever, in the history of professional football that wins every Super Bowl, so it's really hard for your narrow mind to even find another team to go root for. Now I just feel sorry for you, that's no fun.

Well, then, am I to expect you to ignore my question all together? You are not going to come up with a name of a player that YOU suggest take over this team?

  17. Shoot for the stars....thats why you play the game....to win SBs...not draft picks...it has nothing to do w being cranky....I didnt say I would go in hibernation if I lost in the playoffs but every year Im trying to win the SB not win a few games....as far as your question....with the #1 pick in the NFL draft the Cleveland Browns select:

    Josh Rosen QB UCLA

So, your answer is for the Browns to draft Josh Rosen #1 overall and he becomes your 2018 starter? I thought you wanted to win Super Bowls??

Gotta love this line of thinking, don't you?

    showstopper:

Me: Baker Mayfield is the winningest QB in his class.

showstopper: He isn't a good QB.

Me: He's the most accurate. Most efficient. Most catchable. Most creative. Great arm. Great leadership.

    showstopper: I like Josh Rosen.

Me: The guy who's had one winning season, overall is barely above .500 and his teammates don't like playing with him?
