Jim Harbaugh is the highest paid HC in college sports. Not just football. All of college sports. His current salary would make him the highest paid NFL coach. Pete Carol and Sean Payton each make $1million a year less than him.

Harbaugh didn't just take a college job. He took one of the most prestigious jobs in sports and has been doing his best to transform CFB head coaching. He took the team to friggin Italy for spring practice. He has currently been in the headlines for refusing to give out his fall roster. He is taking an out of the box approach to building Michigan football back up to elite status. Going into his 3rd season through some very progressive recruiting he now has a team that is young but 100% his for the molding.

Your going to tell me with a straight face that outside of a major scandal he is going to bail on Michigan so fast? And that if he is willing to do that the Bears will make him the highest paid coach in NFL history giving him total control of the team which he will surely demand?

Try to imagine the slight possibility that Harbaugh isn't an option next offseason. Who else you got?

Why? Because you said he isn't?

I'm telling you with the straightest fucking face that if Trubs shows promise, the defense makes strides under Fangio, and your boy gets canned, that yes, Harbaugh would seriously consider leaving Michigan for Chicago if the offer is right. Total control of the team he wouldn't have, but outside of Belichick such is the reality of an NFL coaching job.

No, just like its not a slam dunk that Harbaugh will be the Bears HC next season because you said so.

  5. bigrobo876 Franchise Player Bears

I don't understand why you can't grasp the possibility that Harbaugh might not leave Michigan after this season. And if he doesnt and the Bears fire Fox than somebody needs to be the next HC. I was just curious as to who some might have in mind.

IMO if Trubs is showing promise and the D makes strides than why fire Fox? To hire Harbaugh? Sign me up! But if Harbaugh isn't an option maybe continued growth under Fox is t the worst thing.

Please quote any post of mine where I said it's a slam dunk.

I'll wait while you do that.......

I think I have explained why IMO he is not going to leave next offseason. That is why if the improvement is shown I would be ok with keeping Fox.

If you are so against retaining Fox I would think you would have other candidates in mind. Not just the one guy who IMO is the least likely.

Bill Belichick is less likely than Jim Harbaugh. So is Lovie Smith, either Ryan brother, your Mom, Mike Ditka, Bill Cowher, or Ted Lasso.

Harbaugh might never be the Bears coach, ever. But to call him least likely when he's known to privately be very interested in the job would be some superb hyperbole.

Trubisky seeing the field and having success shouldn't lead to retaining Fox. Fox isn't a QB guru and therefore would have little to do with any success Trubisky has.

Fangio is the brains behind the defense.....and it stands to reason he could be retained in any coaching move....especially if they were to entice Harbaugh because Fangio has coached under Harbaugh at Stanford and SF.

The fact that BigRobo says it isn't going to happen actually makes me excited that it actually will. The biggest obstacle standing between it happening and not happening are the McKaskey's because they will have to backup a dump truck of money to make it happen and we all know how much they don't like to do that.

I think Harbaugh would love another shot at the NFL and making the Bears a winner, I believe would intrigue him. No one can predict what he will do but to say there is no way it is happening is just ridiculous.

I'm with Rob on this one. College coaches with gigs like that have the best jobs in the football world. They're the highest paid, in complete control of the entire program, are surrounded by a school and city that will cater to them, work with teachable kids rather than stubborn adults, etc...

Saban bolted for Alabama from the Dolphins because it was the best possible job, not because of how things weren't going particularly well in Miami.
Harbaugh getting the Michigan job... I'll be surprised if he doesn't do that until retirement.

Is it possible he leaves for the NFL? Sure. I just don't see a justification for it, if I'm him. He may cite Chicago as a "dream job" because of the team itself, but money, convenience, control, job security... There's nothing that a job with the Bears would have over Michigan.

Harbaugh is a weird and unpredictable dude though. For him in particular, toss out any conventional logic. I could definitely see him wanting to get back in the NFL.

    Just to challenge your projections...

If we go 0-4, and then face one of the best defenses in the NFL (Vikings), we're not going to win.

And then the Ravens in Baltimore? Again, another top 10 defense. It should be noted we've never beaten the Ravens in Baltimore. Nor have we ever even scored more than 7 points...

So, i think the first game we kinda have a shot at winning is the Saints. And again, it's on the road in the dome...

I think there is a realistic chance we go 0-8.

**** I asterisk by saying I'm really looking forward to seeing the game Sunday to get a real good feel for where we actually are as a team.

Totally hear ya Mongo. Ultimately, I just think the Bears will be able to pull out a few more wins than they did last year if their front 7 can stay reasonably healthy.

NFL is a crazy league. Weird stuff happens all the time. Our first 4 games line up terribley, with our home games against 2 great offenses, and getting the Bugs in Tampa.

But I still beilieve that if our front 7 can stay mostly healthy our defense + running game will keep us close ish in many games. Vikings are good but I think our front 7 could shut them down with their lack of a great deap threat at WR. The Ravens haven't been all that great for a couple years now, They're one of the random games i predict the bears pull out their asses.

Hello friends, thought i'd necro this thread and tally things up seeing how its quiet and all. Actually i was looking for that over/under thread we did which was more interesting but its like its disappeared. Whoever started that thread can you find it? There were some good questions in there, like number of Trubs starts, Floyd sacks and Cohen total yards.

Anyway, with the team finishing in the 4-6wins range we had 9 correct answers. Mackladder, BlackDog, Deuce, me, varder, ginny and blang got it right. Blang got it right cos Blang always gets it right. Every year he is a Bears record prediction machine. The year you say SB buddy im booking flights and tickets for every damn home game! Also it seems LAOJoe stopped by to hit us with the correct answer. And baby also was a winner, although thats pending investigation as there are claims she may have copied varder's notes.

    Other mentions of note:

bww correctly called 16wins 12months early. Fine work.

And bigrobo boycotted the entire event on the grounds that there was no option to vote for 19wins.

    Ciao.
