Ravens offseason and draft thread

Discussion in 'Baltimore Ravens' started by Tenacious Faulk, Jan 4, 2018.

  1. I figured that the last game thread was no place for off season discussion especially given how disappoint and depressing that game was.

    What we know:
    Pees is out
Pagano was fired along with other coaches
Mornhinweg is not (Joe apparently likes him and he's Harb's buddy too)
    Wallace's contract is up
    Maclin's sadly is not
    Ravens draft 16th
Other key Ravens UFA's - Jensen, Watson, West, Hurst, Urban, Campanaro, and Gillmore
    Other things can be added

    What we don't know:
    Will Mornhinweg be replaced?
Will the Ravens feel the need to draft a QB?
Will Mallet be let go with the futures contract signed by Woodrum?
Could any other person in the F.O. or coaching staff be let go or be hired away?
Do the Ravens have any choice in not drafting a WR with a high pick?
Will Ozzie finally open up and get aggressive in the first round of UFA's to land quality talent?

    Offseason Wishlist from RR#1:

    - Cut Maclin
    - Cut every other WR except Moore and Campanaro
    - Re-sign Wallace
    - Sign Allen Robinson
    - Sign Marquis Lee (if this is done, cut Campanaro)
    - Sign Donte Moncrief
    - Draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round who has good hands and routes, not another 4.3 body catcher
    - Keep Skura at RG and move Yanda to LG
    - Re-sign Jensen or a top end guy, not someone from the practice squad
    - Cut West
    - Pay Pagano whatever he wants
    - If Pagano just doesn't want it, throw even more money at Vic Fangio
    - Let Harbaugh know his buddy Marty has to call plays like the second half of the season, not the first
    - Let Harbaugh know that his job's on the line if he can't reign in his buddy
    - Re-sign Urban for cheap
    - Ask B.Williams to take a pay cut. All that damn money and the Ravens still give up 4ypc for the first time in history
    - Find another ILB. Peanut was not the answer. Hell, see what Bowser can do there
    - Make Chris Moore the full time returner, both punts and kick offs
    - Ask Maclin to sign a veteran minimum contract with no bonuses just to cut him again
    - Do no re-sign Watson. Roll with what you have in Boyle, Williams, and Waller. Maybe re-sign Gillmore for cheap
    - Actually design an offensive playbook that can utilize RBs, WRs, and TEs in the same damn game, instead of only one unit per game.
    - Call Maclin again and make it seem like you're interested in re-signing him, then put him on hold for an hour
    - Draft a RT in round 1 or 2 (whichever round you don't go WR)
    - Draft a TE in the 4th
    - Consider drafting an ILB in the 3rd if you won't use Bowser there. If you use Bowser, maybe trade this pick to move up in the first and get a quality WR that can catch a damn football
    - Don't draft another damn d-lineman in the 3rd unless you're cutting Kaufusi or Wormley. Stop drafting guys in the 3rd round that are just going to be inactive all season

I'd still keep Campanero. Lee is as injury prone as Campy is. At least one will be healthy, plus Campy is a great punt returner. Not sure how good/bad Moore is on PR.

I believe Skura played C in college. If Jensen does sign elsewhere, the Ravens are covered. They still have Siragusa for RG/LG as well as Lewis and possibly re-signing Hurst (he didn't play too bad at G. As long as they never, ever use him at T ever again.) There's also the draft as the Ravens seem to find really good interior lineman in the later rounds as long as they don't waste another pick on another long-term project like Elemunor.

I'm curious to see what Bam Bradley can do. He looked good in pre-season until he got injured. Could be another one those undrafted LB's that the Ravens develop.

Draft a RB in round 1 or 2. There. Fixed it for you.

On the fence about this. If they can get him for cheap, then ok. If they're going to sign a veteran WR, I'd rather see them sign one with better hands.

On the fence with this one also. He just can't stay healthy.

Williams, Boyle, and Mayle. I've lost all faith in Waller. Mayle is good on ST's and he also caught the first TD reception on the year. I feel the same way about Gilmore as I do about Urban.

I don't see the need. I'd rather they make Ricard a TE/HB rather than waste a draft pick. I still believe that Williams will turn into the play making TE they thought he would be. Not saying he will be the next Gronk or Gates, but he could be a good 50-60 reception guy and ave 10-15 y/c if Marty would ever use him for anything else besides blocking.

I'm not against keeping him, to be honest. He played a full 16 game schedule though so I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on IR in the preseason. He was a good punt returner

Didn't know Skura played C. I was pretty high on Siragusa at LG honestly. So if they were to move Lewis to RT I'd be good with that. But we'll need depth. If Jensen walks and Skura starts in his stop, with Goose and Lewis starting also, that just leaves Hurst as the only backup worth mentioning

Forgot about him. The #2 ILB position is probably the one position I trust the Ravens with the most.

    :angry::angry::chuks::chuks::smack::smack:

The main reason I want to see Wallace stay is because he's managed to stay healthy, he was pretty much the only deep threat for two years, and he has some chemistry with Joe at this point.

I'm hopeful he has a Camp type of year where he avoids injury. Plus John hinted that they may keep. Plus with his limited history, he should be very cheap to keep.

Same with Urban and Camp, very cheap with potentially high reward

I'd have no problem with that honestly

I don't watch college so all my knowledge on players comes from highlight research and some games I'll go through. That said, I love Sutton's size and body control from what I've seen so far. He seems like he short arm catches and in my limited research thus far, I feel like I don't see him hi-point may passes. Of course he may not be extending to catch passes because he may not have to. I saw a few real nice box outs of defenders that I absolutely love.

I do like Calvin Ridley though. Not the biggest guy, but I'm a fan. Also a fan of the two Oaklahoma WRs, James Washington and Marcell Ateman. Ateman seems easily the last to be drafted out of these four, but I love his ability to high point. I have to do a lot more research on all WRs........unfortunately I'll have the time

Equanimeous St. Brown - WR Notre Dame
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 205.
Sources who have done advance work on the 2018 class are really impressed and intrigued with St. Brown. They say he is a super-polished route runner with tremendous speed, athletic ability, body control, and hands. They said they think St. Brown could be more gifted and talented than the three wideouts who went in the top 10 of the 2017 NFL Draft, but St. Brown gets fewer opportunities to show his skill.

Plus... you gotta love his brothers names: Osiris and Amon-Ra

  9. Want a good high pointer? Auden Tate 6-5/225, proj 40 - 4.55
Check out his 2016 highlite real. Pay attention the catch at 1:01.

Never heard of this kid, but that was a very entertaining highlight video.

  12. ravens_R_#1 Legend Ravens

His ability to climb the ladder, so to speak, was impressive. His highlight reel is short though so it's giving me Chris Moore impressions, meaning he likely hasn't done too much. I'd be on board for getting him in the mid to late rounds though.

Hell, I'd be on board with getting him and St. Brown in the mid to late rounds.

Morningweg has been retained by the Ravens to be the OC for 2018..... Chuck Pagano has already been contacted about the DC position and I hope he takes it.

They need to draft a QB for sure as Joe Flacco's contract can effectively end after next year and they would be utterly stupid to extend him at over 20 mil a season with his current production and ineffectiveness.

The 2018 draft better be offensive minded this time because the offense needs difference makers period.

  14. That was 2016 only. His sophomore year. I'm sure there's a '17 video somewhere.

  15. He has electric highlites, but he 1) looks like mostly another fleet-footed body catcher like Perriman and 2) comes from a Notre Dame system that other top rated college players turn into busts.

When I read about Equinameous St. Brown, I think of Key & Peele.

  17. Tate catches the ball no doubt...I just wonder if he can consistently get separation(speed is a concern) since I've seen him play his entire career

Harbs with another "buddy' hire: New QB coach James Urban - "It’s a reunion of sorts for Urban. Previous to his time in Cincinnati (WR coach who worked w' AJ Green, ec.), Urban spent seven seasons climbing the ladder in Philadelphia, where he worked with Harbaugh for five years and under Marty Mornhinweg for four, including two as his quarterbacks coach.

TBH, I'd rather have him as the WR coach.

  19. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

If you stop and think about for a minute, the way the same names keep getting recycled for coaching jobs combined with the amount of movement among coaches, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who hasn't worked with multiple head coaches somewhere at some point in time.

  20. jazznbluz Franchise Player Ravens

Agreed. But I think that is part of the problem with the Ravens. They keep recycling. Just once I'd like to see Harbs think outside the box when it comes to OC or DC. Ozzie & Steve did that with Harbaugh, but he can't/won't see past his old Philadelphia buddies. Same old, same old.
