Where Do We Go From Here?

    You are welcome to believe whatever you like...I think there is a strong possibility that the NFL might be trying to save the Browns from further embarrassment by saying they declined..But there's too much smoke here...Way too many reports of complaints from other NFL teams on this. Supposedly Hue thought it was a good idea to take a staff of 57 other people down to Mobile with him last year, and nobody was happy about that either....

    Were they invited? Hue Jackson said he'd "absolutely" accept the invitation to coach the Senior Bowl at his end-of-year press conference. I haven't seen anything outside of Daryl's article here that said they were invited to show up.

    why would the NFL care if the Browns were further embarrassed (its not cutting into NFL profits)

    From the linked article;

    "Typically the honor goes to the top 2 teams with the worst records who haven’t fired their coaching staffs. With the Browns passing on the opportunity and the Giants and Colts having fired their coaches, the Texans and Broncos are next in line to handle the event.

    With new general manager John Dorsy working on the personnel department and head coach Hue Jackson currently searching for an offensive coordinator as well as evaluating his current staff, the organization decided it was best to allow another team the opportunity to coach. It should also be noted that the Browns declining the invitation is not a landmark move. Several teams over the years have passed on coaching the game so they could focus on scouting instead."

    lol!I read it....

    Like I said to Jean, feel free to believe whatever you want....Clearly there's nothing Hue Jackson can do to convince you, or the owner, of his considerable shortcomings as an NFL head coach....I'm going to go ahead and side with the other 7 billion people on this planet that think he should be fired..

    @TopDawg ...

    Actually, kind of hoped this was the last domino to fall before firing Hue. Without the invite back, that’s really all that’s left out there.

    Just have to hope that was a Dorsey call with them leaving Hue out of the process.

    The Browns decline to coach in the Senior Bowl. The Broncos take their place.

    WHY? The only possible good reason to keep Hue was to get a chance to coach in this game. Maybe once they found out they were coaching the North Team they didn't care. The North Team QBs should be Josh Allen, Luke Falk, Kyle Lauletta, Kurt Benkert, while Mason Rudolph and Baker Mayfield are surely on the South roster.

    You don't pay attention much...It's been mentioned on this thread at least 10 times. Alex has one year remaining on his contract. Dorsey traded for him once, maybe he would be inclined to do it again. They did draft Maholmes. It's a scenario that makes sense....

    Of all the QBs they list they don't put Mason Rudolph in there. It will be one of the 4 QBs at #1 between Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield and Rudolph. I don't see a way anyone else works their way into the conversation at #1 unless they convince themselves not to take a QB but if they want a QB they shouldn't wait for pick #4 just because at least one of them will be guaranteed to be there. Gotta get YOUR guy. That being said, pray it's not Darnold. I'm not throwing the bust label on him like I did Kizer but he isn't ready and the Browns probably aren't a team he will really ever be ready for.

    Perhaps because Mason Rudolph is an R3 prospect.

    I will.

    Sam Darnold = Christian Hackenberg

    And I will add;

    Sam Darnold = Matt Barkley, Mark Sanchez or Matt Leinhart.

    Here's another way to frame the Rosen/Darnold debate:

    Hue Jackson is our coach... that fact won't change between now and next season. Do you want Hue Jackson - a coach who's absolutely ruined two young rookies (Kessler, Kizer) to have:
    • Darnold: at 20-years old he'd be the second-youngest QB of all time to start if he starts in 2018. He has average arm strength and "funky" throwing mechanics. Makes terrible decisions with the football and (I'm guessing) will measure small hands.

    • Rosen: at 21-years old, he would enter the NFL with already textbook throwing mechanics and motion. He has great arm strength and ball placement. Decision making is hot/cold for sure, but didn't generate nearly as many turnovers with a much less-talented supporting cast. Outspoken.
    Rosen's fundamentals of throwing the football are "Hue proof".

    Who's the worst head coach in NFL history?

    Re: Rosen/Darnold...

    I don't think anyone would argue that Kizer needs to take a step back and not see the field in 2018. It's a very strange, very awkward situation, but he needs to be developed by the offensive coordinator (Hue Jackson, as of this writing) and quarterbacks' coach (David Lee).

    I also don't think anyone would argue that the Browns must - and will - pursue a veteran QB to take over the team in 2018. This is likely a bridge QB and not a franchise-caliber guy, so we should start to prepare ourselves for not getting Kirk Cousins or Alex Smith but more in line with a Chase Daniels, Drew Stanton, or Tyrod Taylor. No one wants that guy starting in 2019 or 2020 and fewer think guys like that are capable of winning a playoff game.

    So if the Browns want to keep and develop Kizer, they need to get a guy who's further along with things like his mechanics and decision making, which is 100% Rosen over a guy like Darnold who's not only incredibly young but also horrific in those areas and in need of an equal amount of development.

    Our current staff failed to develop Kizer... why would we give them at No. 1 overall a project (Darnold) over a polished product (Rosen)?
