It's actually a beautiful situation the way the draft is shaping up. Browns can walk away with Barkley and Mayfield. They need to be mindful that Denver is going to take a QB and should be hot on Mayfield, but by not continuing into the CFP, he's still going to have doubters. So... Cleveland takes Barkley No. 1 overall. New York takes a QB, likely Rosen. Indianapolis can add serious defensive talent, could "reach" a bit and take Guice (who's a Top 15 guy), or trade out - which is the danger. Browns need to be on the phone with Indy the entire time to make sure no one - especially Denver - jumps them. We know that Indy isn't taking a QB, though. Cleveland comes back at No. 4 overall and takes Mayfield. You get the top two players in the draft and two of the three largest positions of need.
Just don't see RB as the #1 pick of the draft, SAS. Barkley is no Tomlinson and with the NFL devaluing the RB in recent years with 2-3 RB rotations, I just can't see the Browns taking him 1st overall. It's going to be their QB at #1.
Well we will have to disagree here....no way Mayfield is the top QB after last night...Kirby Smart said they played an awful 1Q w not being disciplined and made adjustments...you can see Mayfield looked lost and confused in quarters 2-4
I would absolutely rather have Mayfield and Fitzpatrick than Mayfield and Barkley, so the order doesn't matter much to me. I do have reservations about allowing Hue Jackson near another rookie QB, however.
If Mayfield isn't the No. 1 overall pick, it won't be because of that game. Against the No. 3 college defense, Mayfield completed almost 66% of his passes and led his team to 41 points, personally accounting for three touchdowns. The only reason Oklahoma lost that game is because Riley went ultra-conservative as the time wound down and took the ball out of Mayfield's hands with suspect play-calling. Not sure how you can put any negative spin on probably the best Rose Bowl game in history.
It was a great game, but lets be honest after the 1Q Mayfield was bottled up and that 66% comp was inflated w at least 4-5 jet sweeps that count as completions since they toss the ball...that #5 has some serious wheels
I agree...However, it should be noted that we also passed on Tomlinson back in the day, so Butch Davis could get this guy (that he missed on when he was at Miami); "Big Money"...He is still laughing about being picked ahead of LT...smh The only constant the Cleveland Browns have really had over the years is that they are terrible at the draft. And it doesn't seem to matter who's in charge...At least in my lifetime it's been that way. Here's to change. Please let this be the right GM... Next man up is John Dorsey.....Good luck John, we're all counting on you.
Interesting... Asked to self-scout himself by the media pool, DeShone Kizer: Asked about Jackson - and by proxy, himself - being talked about being replaced, DeShone Kizer: Interesting word choices by Kizer. Maybe it's trying to read too much in between the lines, but it's pretty clear - at least to me - what happened here. Hue Jackson got "his guy" and threw away an entire NFL season to try and develop him. To put the blame anywhere else for this season besides these two is flat-out wrong.
Well if that true looks like the starting QB will be Kizer heading into 2018 and no need to draft a QB
Combined with the very real fact that this was a poor throwing football team and we threw it more than 31 other NFL teams, as well as recklessly abandoning the run, would buttress this argument. Hue actively coached this team to 0-16 intentionally.
Not at all. I'm suggesting that what is left of our fan base should be as loud as they can in letting Jimmy and Dee know that this is absolutely unacceptable...Pining us to a 1-31 joke of a head coach, who takes no accountability for this mess, is absurd. This isn't a 1-31 roster. That just shouldn't ever happen. How could Hue have done a worse job at fixing our QB situation? He couldn't. The guy is cluless. There is a serious disconnect between what this team does to prepare all week, and what happens on Sundays. That's on the coaches... Go back to late August during our undefeated preseason and read Hue's quotes. He talked about a different mindset. He talked about how this is a group of winners, and how you could feel change throughout the organization. They were gonna surprise a lot of teams with the talent on this roster....Then fast forward just 6 weeks. Suddenly, there is just no way to win with this roster unless everything goes perfect. lol! I mean it's all right there in front of us. Hue Jackson is an assclown. He's an embarrassment. And I don't have to just sit and accept anything. I always get behind whatever the bosses decide to do. Where has it gotten us???? We need to let them know....This ridiculous arrangement of forcing Hue on Dorsey is stupid. It's doomed from the beginning and you can see it from a mile away. I'm shocked that the Haslam's are this blind, quite honestly. Like I said, we still have a parade coming. At first I hated it, but after Jimmy announced his endorsement for Hue Jackson, I hope it brings so much embarrassment and pressure on the Haslams that they come to their senses and fire the HC. The HC of the most undisiplined team in NFL history. The HC with the worst record of any HC in the history of this game....
Not sure if you're kidding, but that is a very real fear. I'm certain John Dorsey would prefer to hire his own HC but the owner isn't allowing it. The owner was "committed" to an analytics-approach rebuild that lasted 23 months and ended with him siding with the traditional football head coach, who went 1-31. Jimmy's love for Hue gives him ultimate authority. As previously mentioned, Hue may not have final say over the 53-man roster, but you have to be beyond naive to believe he doesn't have equal - or more - say in the QB position. That was the structure with Sashi and certainly would be the same with John. I would not be the least bit surprised to see them aggressively pursue A.J. McCarron in the offseason, including trading valuable picks, and then trade out of No. 1 overall to go into 2018 with the winner of the McCarron/Kizer QB battle.
I was being dead serious...if that is true what you posted it seems Hue is married to Kizer and will sink or swim w him(ironic) lol
That is the most assinine comment I think I have ever read on an internet forum. Why would ANY head coach, at ANY level, intentionally scuttle his career by trying to lose every game?
Are you kidding me? lol! Hue will throw Kizer or anybody under the bus if it gets him off the hot seat... ...Hue Jackson says lots of things that he later contradicts. He has no credibility.
Who knows w that guy but most of us can agree after going 1-31 and 0-16 he should not be the HC this yr or any yr
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. There isn't hard feelings. It's just hard to be a Browns fan... I liked the fact that they didn't quit. It looked like they were quitting, but after those first couple drives, they settled down and played with heart...I know the players like Hue, but I don't care about that. He's not there to be their friend. I just don't like the way Hue always changes his story in an attempt to cast himself in a better light. And I really don't like all the mental mistakes this team makes on a weekly basis. IMO, that's directly on Hue....Couple that with his complete whiffs at the QB position, and utter lack of accountability, and I think he deserves to be fired as much as any coaching fail ever did...
