Thought it would be good idea to create thread for AB updates. I know a popular Steelers blog was taking a medical approach and proving how he could be recovered by first playoff game. Also, though, I’ve been reading some posts of amateur physicians saying 3-4 weeks is not likely for an adequate recovery with this kind of injury. Seems details are under a tight wrap right now. Anyone who gets some info, or just wants to speculate, please advise. Thanks, Tech
The main piece of information missing is what “grade” is the calf injury. Grade 1 tear = (small micro tears in muscle fibers - 2-4 weeks Recovery) Grade 2 tear = (partial tear of muscle fibers - 4-8 weeks Recovery) Grade 3 tear = (complete tearing of muscle fibers which usually requires surgery - up to 4 months Recovery) It’s been reported that AB doesn’t require surgery which obviously rules out a Grade 3 tear.
Let’s say AB can’t play the Divisional round, are we comfortable with a combination of Bryant, JuJu, Rogers, DHB, and Hunter? If this was the case last year without AB they would have had - Rogers, DHB, Coates, Wheaton, and Hamilton. Coates in 7 games with Cleveland - 6 catches for 70 yards Wheaton in 6 games with Chicago - 3 catches for 51 yards
When the evil satanic cult known as the Cobra Kai Patriots ordered the sweep of the leg on AB, I was afraid; but after witnessing the guys you reference above the past two weeks I am feeling better about things. No doubt we would be in awful shape if having to roll with last years supporting cast of characters without AB.
This year's receiving corps is much more solid, talent-wise, than last year's group. J2S2 makes the BIGGEST difference here. On AB's recovery: Typically, an injury to an ordinary person may take the projected recovery times stated above, but we are talking about professional athletes here and they seem to recover a little more quickly than us wee mortals. Aaron Rodgers came back rather quickly for a shattered clavicle. He didn't play well (by his standards), but it was impressive he was able to go at all. It really wouldn't go beyond the realm of possibility to have AB back on the earliest of timelines. That extra week off (bye) for #84 will be monumental.
I would be totally fine with JuJu and MB starring because Bell is also a viable receiver. If Vance McDonald is healthy then that's even better. Make no mistake, AB puts the Steelers over the top and if they face NE in the AFCCG they would really need him but, I think they are deep at WR and with the way Ben has been playing, they would be OK.
Steelers vote Antonio Brown as team MVP. First in team history to win it 4 times. http://www.wtae.com/article/steelers-name-antonio-brown-teams-2017-mvp/14505665
I’m not a fan of popularity contests but it’s very impressive he will lead the league in categories, having sat injured the last 3 weeks. Although Ben does not get the credit he deserves for finding and feeding AB game after game .... AB being MVP is a tacit vote for Ben as MVP whether anyone recognizes that or not. Decades from now when football fans look at Ben Roethlisberger’s lifetime stats, W-L record, and accolades they will come to the undeniable conclusion that he was the most unheralded and ignored great QB in the history of the game. Santonio bleeping Holmes being MVP of a super bowl rather than Ben speaks for itself. Anybody would be a fool to assert that Holmes made Ben vs Ben making Holmes in that game or in their careers. Same goes for Ben and AB as far as I’m concerned. He won in his career with Wilson, Ward and El for crying out loud. He is a Tom Brady in that regard. Arguably better when you consider he never needed much of an O-line or receivers to perform year in and year out. Not gonna lie, kinda makes me wanna puke when I think how much he has been ignored.
We'll really miss him when he's gone. More than we realize. He is peaking this season at the right time.
I still stand by my statement the night he was getting x-rayed in the locker room. It's a fracture. Pretty much the same injury T.O. had when he went off in the Super Bowl.
Just for everyone's understanding of what is really happening on his video from yesterday. The machine he is on is to limit the amount of weight being put on the fracture. It promotes healing, but to assume any timeline from that would be careless, unless you are aware of the settings on the machine. He may be putting only 30% of his weight on his legs. If he's putting 80% I would say it's a good sign.
Thanks wazoo. Still, let's say he misses the divisional round. He may be back for the AFCCG I hope. That's six weeks. I don't know how long Owens was out or if Brown's injury is as bad. We'll just have to wait and see.
I think Owens just played in the super bowl (not sure when he got hurt) The video i saw of AB had him "walking" with the hyperbaric thing around his waist (or whatever that thingamajig was). I want to hold onto Bryant for as long as we can. This AB injury just shows how needed a good receiving corp is (and not just one or two guys). I find myself ok with the idea of our team going to war in the playoffs with Bryant, J2S2, Rogers, McDonald and James. I would, however, be crapping my pants if instead of a Bryant we had to start Hunter. Hunter is a nice guy to have for endzone packages but not much else.
TO injury was on Dec 19th, 2004 He was able to play 7 weeks later on Feb 6th, 2005 I think that may be irrelevant anyway, I would think the Steelers are reporting accurate info on the actual injury being a calf pull not a fracture. They would have done the same thing with Haden, no?
Haden's injury was more serious and he missed what? 4/5 weeks. Why is there so much doubt about AB coming back on schedule? Did I miss something? A hot wire from D&G HQ?
TO had a fracture but also ligament surgery (I think??). If so, then AB getting back should be a breeze in comparison.
I'm curious as to why you personally think they are lying. What do they gain? Why risk fines or other punishment from the league for perpetuating a lie that won't make Brown come back faster? I'm missing the M. O. here.
Just curious. Is there a punishment for misrepresenting the "actual" injury? I believe the only thing required is stating that there is an injury. I'm not sure why they would mislead the public. Maybe they don't want to have to answer questions they are uncomfortable answering. I know there isn't any reason for anyone to believe me on here.
