Sad day! One of my all time favorites is playing for the team I hate most. The direction Tomlin and Butler have gone with the defense left no role for James I guess. This defense is terrible against the run and only looks good against trash QBs. Not a fan of what they have done!
Probably not but I'm sure their odds dropped more by letting Harrison go to the Pats than a scratch depth player they don't care much to protect for the future.
The NFL has its AFC championship storyline. Sure hope Mex’s way out there / tongue in cheek theory is true. Lol. Still weird to me how Tomlin supposedly values Sensabaugh, Big Dan, and some others more than Harrison.
I just don’t get how they’ve been saying all year they were saving Harrison for crunch time and now he’s just like ehhh let’s release him. This is not going to end well. Clearly Tomlin thinks Harrison is done Because he’s keeping guys on the team that are not very good at all over him (at positions that aren’t more needed imo at least in some instances). Just the fact that Harrison knows so much about our offense and defense, having been here forever, it just is bewildering that he was released knowing that New England would pick him up. Oh well whatever the NFL’s got a lot of the WWE these days so I don’t expect it to make a lot of sense, at least that’s what I say.
Beloved Tomlin was saving him as long as he can for the Patriots to make sure they pick him up as fresh as possible with as much info possible for the evil one Bellichick.
I will be positive for a minute: maybe this is all part of a strategy to beat Beli-boy at his own game.....maybe they have a second set of signals for everything already set up .... would that be unprecedented? Tomlin needs to become the leagues new evil mastermind if so and leave Beli-boy crying
The excuse that keeps being tossed out is ge cant drop into coverage. Great could he still rush the QB? Im betting the answer to that is yes. So what if putting him on the field told the opposing team hey this guy here us rushinhg the qb and not dropping into coverage. Design a defense that will take advantage of the fact teams might now throw to the side harrison is on because he isnt dropping into coverage. Teams always need pass rushers for them to not know, how to use him is embarrassing. For thosee wanting to trust the coaching staff and its judgment see antwon blake, boykin and gilbert. Yeah diffeenrt position but thier judgementwith these gus was oh so fantastic. Curious here if its a tight game and harrison strip sacks ben to seal the game what percentage of fans call for tomlins head?
#1 reason to keep him on team is he hits as hard as anyone in nfl and plays with reckless abandon. Do we really want him hitting our guys and playing with reckless abandon against us? I just don’t get it. I’m gonna need to see this work out and us beat NE before I can say anything good about this move (assuming we get the chance and I’m hoping the NFL just makes that as easy as possible for us since this matchup would be an easy one to draw big attention and ratings).....but who knows with NFL...maybe it’s build a new Star QB storyline time and some young gun will face off against Brady.....I’ve always had this unsettling feeling that since Ben’s suspension the league had decided to try and ensure our beloved super Steelers do not win another super bowl with Ben at the helm. The league seems to me to be on the liberal side of things politically and in an era of metoo hashtags flying, forgive me if I just don’t think the league would be wanting Ben hoisting another Lombardi (although facts imo indicate Ben is innocent of accusations in both situations). However, the NFL is tone deaf to what their fans think and make moves that cause attendance to drop etc as a general rule these days. Tommy (captain america) Terrfific and his Patriots vs. Big Bad Ben and his Black and Gold Steeler villains - is that how the league sees it? Who knows .... all conjecture on my part. One things for certain, I think I speak for all steeler fans when I say I would be shocked if we were getting calls in a game vs the Patriots
I for one would be calling for the job of the person who let a 40 year old rusher beat them in the biggest game of the year. As you said, he isn't dropping in coverage so if he's on the field he is rushing. Easy enough, slide protection, leave Gilbert 1 on 1 with the other side. James Harrison should not have an impact on the physical side of the game. Much more concerned about his knowledge of the Steelers D than anything.
I like the way you think. I really really want Tomlin to somehow outsmart / turn the tables on the Patriots with this move.
I’d say most steeler fans seem ok without tomlin these days .... I’ve always said the true test for Tomlin will be after Ben is gone....if he fails after that then people will turn on him quick and start saying he only won bc of Ben (they will add that to “he only won a super Bowl with players from teams built before his arrival”).
Much more concerned about his knowledge of the Steelers D than anything.-steelersking Frankly, the Pats don't need Harrison to crack the Steelers D. Since he won't help them stop the O, then who cares. The Steelers can beat the Patriots if they have the horses and avoid stupid mistakes. End of story
To his credit, Tomlin has engineered quite a team with or without Ben. Landry Jones is just more terrible than a lot of people realize. If he somehow started for an NFL team, Jones would be looking up at Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Oh I agree with you. But people would still say it. Finding the next great QB talent is difficult and requires a little luck too so I hope Tomlin is able to find one when time comes
Just to be clear - my above post was supposed to say most steeler fans seem ok “WITH” Tomlin (have no idea how “without” became the word but had to be spell check fail as usual). I have fat fingers and try to type too fast. Maybe I’m wrong though and should have left it at without when I read the scrutiny he still comes under on other boards and comments under Pitt online paper news articles. The letting the team decide to keep everyone off the field that one game during the anthem didn’t help any this year. And now this Harrison move etc. Anyways I agree with you, Demo, that he’s built a pretty solid team. I still think his biggest test will come with his next QB / QBs.....
