Teh Phil "Senior" was drafted by the redskins as a qb. He played 9 games with the calgary stampeders in 1982, completing 30 of 56 passes and 4 td's.

Praise be to Teh Phil "Senior".

Or a low totem pole actor on a shitty tv movie. One buried in the long credits at the end of the program.

Everyone knows that TEH S4YVYER was born on 02OCT, but we silly pagans have chosen 25 December to celebrate HIS life (probably an old scheduling conflict). Here's Pope Francis (and Pope Frank) to show the world what Xmas is really about. May your hearts be filled with joy and your stocking filled with hot dogs (extra relish). PHIL magnus est. Praise be!

I heard he was born in March, they say he was a Pisces. If teh phil ever went to italy, he wouldn't be able to fit back on the plane from eating all the pizzas in the country.

Blasphemy aside. Love this post. Thank you, Pope Frank!

We'll never know for sure the exact date (or year) of Jesus of Nazareth's birth. It's not like Obama where some question where the birth certificate was issued. Jesus did not have a birth certificate.

But we shouldn't vex over why Dec. 25th was selected to commemorate His incarnation. For the first ~275 years of Christianity, openly calling yourself one could get you killed. Hiding in plain sight was a great defense. You celebrated things when everyone else was celebrating things. The bigger the celebration the greater the need for a major holiday. Dec. 25 was one of the most important dates on the Pagan calendar. Dec. 25 is Christmas for this reason.

That makes sense, the first christians were brutalized. Dec.25 was already a pagan holiday.

not to get religious but since the topic has already been brought up, Cardinal Bernard Law died today.
What that man allowed is truly evil. A monster in the truest sense.

The celibacy rule the church has had for priests has attracted many creeps to the priesthood. It's sad that the higher ups were providing a sanctuary and allowed them the freedom to act on their evil.

We're all entitled to our opinion, and I never fail to appreciate the words of 2 Peter 3:15. That said, I agree that this is not the place to go all religious on everyone.

Cardinal Law was not the monster. But, he was very complicit in the evil; he served as a major enabler. My thoughts follow something along the lines of: ".. forgive me my sins that I have done, and what I have failed to do..."

According to his religion, he is now before the judgment seat. Wouldn't want to be him facing the questions being thrown at him right now.

The celibacy mandate in the Church dates to somewhere around the year 900. (It was always encouraged by Scripture and the Church.) It was a necessary response at the time to thwart the abuse of children of priests being given Church property as part of their inheritance.

Since pedophilia is far from an exclusively Catholic Church problem - it is far too common throughout society. I do not think focusing on the celibacy of the priesthood points us in the right direction of solving the problem. Not having anyone who believes sexual contact with children is acceptable is the problem that still needs to be addressed. That is inside and outside the Catholic Church.

Having the opportunity for marriage has proven to be a deterrent to act on their worst predilection for about zero percent of pedophiles.

I agree, although, the celibacy mandate throughout the years has attracted a percentage of priests that used the priesthood as an escape from scrutiny and persecution, in small towns especially. A man that has urges to go with young boys, in most cases wouldn't be attracted to a woman. Without coming across as ignorant, I'll go as far as saying that these people became priests to serve themselves and not God or the faith.
