So I read somewhere that John Dorsey has been to six Oklahoma games to watch Mayfield....Any word on how many Rosen games he attended? I can't help but like the way Mayfield plays the game. He gets the Johnny comparison for his cockiness and immaturity, but I'm not too worried about. If pics start to surface of him snorting cocaine and holding up wads of cash while he styles like a douchebag for the camera, then I'll start to worry about that...I love his game. He can move. He's accurate. But most importantly, he is that natural leader. He needs to grow up a little, but I'm not worried about his size. He's going to be successful. No reason his game shouldn't translate to the NFL. When he gets dialed in from the neck up, he'll start getting comparisons to Russel Wilson.
Here's the thing. Hue said before the season that there is NO WAY we will go winless. I'm pretty sure he promised to jump into Lake Erie if it happened. One would think there might be some media pressure on that little promise if the Browns don't pull out another Christmas miracle in Chicago this week... After watching Chicago play on Saturday, I gotta believe there's a reasonable chance the Browns could get Hue off the hook though... Now the dilemma becomes: Would I rather see (and by that I mean listen to, because they are no longer deemed worthy of televising in the Columbus area) the Browns win a game? Or would I rather see Hue jump into the frigid waters? lol! I gotta say a Browns win would be better, but it's much closer than anyone can imagine.....
I'm rooting for the Rams and Vikings from here out. That'll be a tough call for me if they both wind up in NFC championship....I love the way the Rams have turned it around so fast. All of the sudden THEY are the bully. I just like the way they punch teams right in the mouth. They are balanced, and aggressive, and I think the Rams believe. That is a fun team to watch play....The Vikings are very similar. That NFC race will be fun. Not only are they two of the best teams, but they also have two of the best uni's...
He actually said he’d swim in the Lake if they went 1-15 again. They lose this weekend and he owes us all a dip.
One of the best match-ups of the 70's...Can ya name the running back? One of my all time faves....He held that ball like a loaf of bread.
Anyone ever stopped to think he isn't trying real hard, knowing the Bengals would like him to take a 4 hour trip south west?
I don't think it's lack of effort. Hue said himself, he needs everything to go "perfectly" in order to win....Quite honestly, if ya just looked at how he's done against the Bengals, it really is mind blowing that they would even want him. Those rumors just seem hard to believe. But it is the Bungles, sooo....
Ravens fan here. I come in peace. I said at the beginning of the year that I felt the Browns were taking the right route. Yes they passed up Wentz and Trubisky, but your defense is coming together. I for one was impressed with the speed and tackling, especially with Nassib and Garrett. In the AFC North, you need a good defense, especially a good run defense, and the Browns have a very good run D that will only get better. They have some nice weapons on offense with Coleman, Duke, Crowell, Njoku, and now that Gordon is back. They need a QB and Kizer just isn't it. The OL is young and lost their leader, who also happens to be the best LT in football, IMHO. Next year the Browns get their QB. Whether it's McCarron in FA or Rosen/Myafield in the draft, they get their QB. The Browns also have 9 or 10 draft choices in the 1st 4 rds, so they can trade for the pieces they want or draft them. For a bad as Sashi was, he did leave you in a great position for the 2018 draft which is loaded with talent, especially at QB. Think about this. If the Browns do get the top 2 picks in the draft, or even 2 of the top 5, they have so many different options. They can draft a QB at either 1 or 2 plus another top choice for their OL. They can draft a QB at number 1, and then trade the second pick for a lower #1 pick plus pick up more draft choices. They can trade the #1 or second pick for a QB and still probably pick up more draft choices or at least one lower in the 1st rd. Yes, it's been a depressing couple of years. But, you now have a GM who knows what he's doing, provided Haslem lets him. I see the Browns as the football equivalent of the Houston Astros 5 years ago. I'm not saying they will go to and win the SB, but I still predict the Brown will be in the playoffs within the next 2-3 years and will become a force in the AFC. As for Hue, I think he could be a very good HC, but then I don't watch a lot of Browns games. What I do know is that unless the coach's name is Bellichek, all HC's get blasted from their fans no matter what they do. Give any HC a decent team to work with and he will get better. Whether that is Hue next year remains to be seen.
Just an FYI, the Browns play in the AFC North, you know the same as the Ravens...but, the same is true, they need a defense to survive the North..
Hue Jackson just isn't a very good coach. For all his reputation, he's miserable as both an offensive coordinator and QB mentor. Here's Hue's quote on DeShone Kizer: "He's the best quarterback I've personally ever been around." Yikes. Hue is a garbage coach. He calls plays like he's running Rookie mode on Madden - he's incapable of curtailing his tendencies to help his team win football games. He hates to run the football - like a visceral hate that makes you wonder what the running game ever did to him. He's oblivious to in-game adjustments and is so buried into a play sheet (that's full of garbage plays) that he misses the action of the game and it passes him by. He masterfully controls the narrative, however, through his leaks and media mouthpieces - and the perception that it's "just the Browns being the Browns". So people around the League still think there's value there - hence the rumors.
My question is, WHY did his mindset change so drastically? This is not the offense he ran in Cincy. In 2014 Attempted 503 passes for 3421 yards 20 TDs passed 50.5% of the time ran the ball 492 times for 2147 yards 19 TDs ran 19.5% of the time THAT is balance In 2015 Attempted 505 passes for 3933 yards 31 TDs passed 52% of the time ran the ball 467 times for 1805 yards 18 TDs ran 48% of the time THAT is balance He moves to Cleveland as HC/OC and he forgets how to game plan and/or call plays 2016 Attempted 567 passes for 3264 yards 15 TDs passed 61.8% of the time ran the ball 350 times for 1712 yards 13 TDs ran 38.2% of the time 2017 Attempted 508 passes for 2778 yards 13 TDs passed 60.1% of the time ran the ball 337 times for 1536 yards 10 TDs ran 39.9% of the time What in the hell happened to the Hue Jackson that was hired to do this job???? His resume painted a much different picture than the man we got..Did Marvin Lewis keep a leash and collar on what he was allowed to do on game day? All I can say is, he needs to study HC 101 ALL off season AND hire an offensive coordinator if this business relationship is going to continue.
Simple answer. One only has to look at the Bengals' depth chart for 2014 and 2015. LT - A. Whitworth (2014 & 2015) LG - C. Boling (2014), M. Pollack (2015) C - T. Robinson (2014), R. Bodine (2015) RG - K. Zeitler (2014 & 2015) RT - A. Smith (2014 & 2015) WR - A.J. Green, M. Jones, M. Sanu TE - T. Eifert RB - J. Hill, G. Bernard QB - A. Dalton 2016 and 2017 in Cleveland; J. Thomas and J. Bitonio (some times) are the only consistant starters on the O-line. The rest where C. Erving (who failed at 2 different postions), J. Grecco and M. Schwartz who Sashi ran out of town. QB - do I really have to name all of them? WR - do I really have to go here? To sum it up, Hue wasn't given the roster in Cleveland to do what he did in Cincy. Some would argue that I. Crowell and D. Johnson compare to J. Hill and G. Bernard, but without a passing game, the Bellevue Redmen could stop the Browns' running game and if you can't run the ball, you only have one other option and given the dearth of talent there, it should be no surprise.
Another way to look at it . . . How was Cincy's balance this year after their O-line and WR's got pilfered?
That would hold water if the Browns running game wasn't averaging 4.6 yards per carry...which is #3 overall in the NFL. What he HASN'T had is the receiving corps that he had in Cincy, and you also debunked the QB issue...so why in the hell wouldn't he LEAN on the run game in that situation? It doesn't make any sense at all.
Nor is it the same offense he ran in Oakland. 2010 504 rush attempts, 2,494 yards, 19 TDs (50.7%) 491 pass attempts, 3,180 yards, 18 TDs (49.3%) 2011 466 rush attempts, 2,110 yards, 16 TDs (47.1%) 524 pass attempts, 3,962 yards, 20 TDs (52.9%) You gave his Cincinnati stats. So he gets to Cleveland and gets his quarterback - Bob Griffin - whom he loved. He tailored an offense to suit him and it lasted all of three quarters. Then, he had to deal with the F/O's guy (Kessler) and others due to injury. In the next year, he got his quarterback - Kizer - whom he loved. He didn't tailor an offense to suit him, instead going back to his philosophy and just ratcheting up the frequency. Thus far, the only adjustment Hue has done to help Kizer is work exclusively out of the shotgun - 86.3% of the time. His concepts are still to run vertical routes an inordinate amount of the time. He gets really into shifts, motions, and set-confusion but doesn't tailor that to the players whatsoever.
Because the Browns normally find themselves playing from behind the score. How often do we get a big play out of Crowell or Johnson only to end up punting or settling for a FG? You HAVE TO HAVE a consistent passing game to rely on a running game. If you don't, you end up 1 - 29.
