If Kane were to renew with BUF for something like 5 yrs./$35MM ($7MM per) then I would be very pleased. I do not think BUF wants to 8 or even 6-7 years. I think Kane may be happy with $7MM per, but wants 7 to 8 years. The reality is that his chances of getting a better contract goes up if he has a strong postseason. Of course, there is no postseason for Evander if he's still in blue & gold. It would be smart for him to play this out and go to UFA in July. I believe GM Bot knows that, and therefore is left with only one viable option - trade him for as much as one team is willing to pay.

Paying for the rental only costs a prorated amount of his 2017-18 salary, and that is why a trade is more likely close to the deadline.

Otherwise, there will probably be four teams willing to pay up in order to gain his services for a few weeks and then the playoffs.

It only takes one team that can afford him, and that should not be a problem. It only takes one team to think he's worth the price BUF is asking, and I do not think that's a problem. If he's not resigned by BUF - and I doubt he will - then expect him to be moved early in the deadline week.

 

not bad prices at all Dan. very affordable and not backbreaking for a team to take on. hell Couterier in Philly makes close to $7 mil or over that much and he's half the player Kane is. I'd rather have Kane than Couts any day of the week.

I always wondered why the injuries were kept so secretive... I don't understand the logic or strategy behind it.

 

The main reason behind not disclosing an injury according to most teams management is they don't want other teams to target those areas on a player. You usually see this in the playoffs, if someone knows that a player is suffering with issues on their right shoulder, players could try to lay hits on that shoulder when they have a chance.
