Anyway, if Sashi being gone translates to more free agents open to the idea of being a Cleveland Brown, than good for us...Now he can watch another GM use all that draft commodity. I'm amazed that he never took a QB at the top of the draft....WTH was he missing? Cody Kessler and Kizer? really? C'mon...This is the most QB starved team on the planet. If you aren't going to get one in free agency, ya gotta do better than that...It's not hard to see what got Sashi fired.
FTR....John Dorsey also said he expects the Browns to win the AFCN in 2018....Seems like a man that speaks from his heart. He didn't say he'd bet the farm on it. Just that he expects it...I like that. We should always expect to win.....I'd take that as a direct message to the players. He's seems confident that he will acquire a QB, and why wouldn't he be given what's at his disposal? The rest is up to the players, and I think John is letting them know that.

I agree...Browns fans have heard enough talk anyway. In fact, we've heard it all. Dorsey is just trying to get the fans excited about something, but I wish he would shut up...First of all, how many guys do we have on the roster that have been added since Sashi took over? (calling SAS) I have no idea, but I gotta believe that's at least 40% of the roster and probably much more. Why make that ridiculous statement about "real players" in a radio interview? My god. I actually feel sorry for Hue now. I don't know how he holds the locker room together at this point. I think the new boss wants Hue out, and he wants to lock-up that #1 pick. Surely his choice words are going over like a lead balloon with the players.

Sames. I don't like how it went down - with Sashi Brown sitting in on interviews thinking he was getting a counterpart in the organization and not being replaced. I don't like what it means - giving up on analytics-based approach after 17 months, meaning the owner was never truly bought-in. Worse, being a "classic football guy" means he's going to draft with ego and worst, Hue Jackson has a new ally. All that said, Dorsey is a highly-qualified candidate and quite frankly, one I didn't think Haslam was capable of getting. We've been through this already a dozen times - the average "GM" span under Haslam is 15 months long. John Dorsey's no idiot and has to realize that as well - he's got ONE draft to make Haslam believe. He *must* get this right.
Hue's been doing this all season. He's thrown his own roster under the bus on a number of occasions. "You go to work with what you've got." "We're not built to do that."

Browns have dropped 15 straight against AFC North teams. Our last win against a division rival was overtime in Baltimore, October 11, 2015. It took QB Josh McCown setting a Browns passing record with 457 yards.
As much as I'd love to see him fired, it seems uncomfortably true that Hue Jackson is coming back for 2018. As such, the QB drafted needs to be able to throw deep and read deep safety coverage - something that DeShone Kizer is incapable of doing. I wonder who the best QB in the NCAA is at throwing deep? Rosen doesn't fit the Hue Jackson/John Dorsey mold, so throw him out. Darnold would fit... problem is, he can't do it. Only other first-round option is the darkhorse.
Here's one of Hue Jackson's apologists (in a Twitter exchange with Joe Banner regarding the Tennessee Titans): Joe Banner is commenting on how coaching and scheme is important when discussing QBs. Amy then not only destroys Hue Jackson on accident, she reveals the inherent weakness in him as well. Per John Dorsey, "he needs to find Hue players who fit". Remember this when we're not drafting traditional "best player available" but targeting guys who can make up for Hue's glaring deficiencies.
Priority Free Agent: Highly-accurate, efficient with the football, great throwing deep. Not only does Alex Smith have the John Dorsey connection but he fits Hue Jackson's approach to a tee.
What's it going to take to get him with only one year left on his contract? I would go with a 4th rounder, I don't see anyone else offering more. If it comes with a contract, I would give one of the 2nd rounders.
That would be perfect scenario IMO...Bring in Smith on final year of his contract. For once we wouldn't be forced to throw our rookie QB, presumably Rosen, into the fire too soon.... I wonder if KC would be willing to deal with a GM they just fired before the season started? If things were ugly, then Dorsey's connection to the Chiefs might not work to our favor at all. Just a thought... I actually didn't realize Smith had one year left on his current deal...

So Dorsey's comment was not just a shot at Sashi, but nearly 80% of the roster as well...wow. that's gotta be as deflating to that locker room as any of our 13 losses...Seems foolish to me, but like I said, I'm not sure Mr. Dorsey has the same agenda as a Browns fan that desperately wants to see a win this Sunday.
Free Agency Fixes For a team without any "real football players" to also win the middle-of-the-road AFC North next season, suffice to say a few dramatic changes are going to be needed. "Big John" Dorsey and the Browns will hit the offseason market with almost no priority free agents to re-sign from their squad and deep pockets to try and lure players away from established franchises for the promise of huge bank accounts. 1. Le'Veon Bell, RB Pittsburgh (4-year, $60 million, $28 million guaranteed) "I'm at the top, and if not, I'm the closest. I'm a need 15 a year and they know this." - Focus Bell nixed a deal with Pittsburgh last season to pay him $12 million a season, insisting he was worth $15 million. The cap-strapped Steelers will not be able to make that happen in 2018 - and that could be the reason why they're getting every snap they can out of him, with Bell having more touches through 13 games than any point in his career - he's 15 touches away from his career high of 373 with three games to go. It's a risky proposition, but signing Bell to a massive deal does multiple things: (1) weakens a division rival, (2) frees up draft capital, and (3) adds potentially a Top 3 running back to the team. The Browns invested heavily in the offensive line under Sashi, bringing in two "non-real" football players in free agency and drafting two others. Winning the AFC North means beating the Steelers - and that's an easier ask if they lose one of their best offensive playmakers. With Isaiah Crowell walking away in free agency, the Browns must address the position in either free agency or the draft. 2. Alex Smith, QB Kansas City (3-year, $48 million, $27 million guaranteed, #37 overall traded) John Dorsey's signature move that served as the catalyst for the Chief's turn-around was trading for Alex Smith. He may have to again. Kansas City has an out in 2018 which would leave them with $3.6 million in dead cap, so it makes sense to try and trade him first. Cleveland has three second round picks, which I would suspect is the ceiling for a trade (he was traded for two second round picks from San Francisco). Alex Smith immediately stabilizes the position and gives the Browns a legitimate shot to compete in 2018. We can bicker all offseason (and will) about which rookie QB to take, but none of them are going to be NFL-ready Week 1 and it's impossible to predict who - if any - can mimic the Deshaun Watson bump. Smith is highly-accurate, highly-efficient, and puts his team in position to win games. This year, more than any year in his career, he's taken more downfield shots which perfectly aligns with Hue Jackson's approach to the game. Smith will be playing on a one-year, $14.5 million ($3.6 million guaranteed) if he's not re-signed prior to the start of the season. It could be an advantageous position to be in - loaning a QB for the second round pick you got from paying another team's QB. If Smith doesn't play well in Cleveland - or if the rookie gets ready sooner than expected - the Browns can walk away from Smith after a year without eating a ton of dead cap space. If re-signed, Smith will be 34 to start the 2018 season, so this could be his last NFL contract. 3. Morris Claiborne, CB New York (4-year, $36 million, $16 million guaranteed) Morris Claiborne was a colossal disappointment in Dallas, has been steady in New York on a one-year "prove it" deal, but is still due to hit free agency and the Jets could look to move on. Claiborne isn't without skill - and natural gifts - but he's never been able to put it all together. If we're relying on our coaches to coach up talent and our new GM to add talented football players, Claiborne makes a ton of sense. The Browns need help at cornerback and adding a veteran allows them some flexibility. Jason McCourty could follow in the footsteps of his brother Devon with New England and move to free safety, allowing Jabrill Peppers to slide into the strong safety role. This would skill keep cornerback open in the draft where the Browns should have a shot at a lot of really good talents in a really deep class.
Free Agency Fixes (Bonus Trade) Big if on this one, but there are rumors that the Bengals will be blowing up the organization after this season. They're sitting at 5-8 with games against Minnesota, Detroit, and Baltimore left on the schedule - so 5-11 should be the final nail in the Marvin Lewis coffin. Yes, I'd love, love, love to trade Hue Jackson back to them, but I'm going to propose taking their top player. If indeed they do blow it up and bring in a new group, they could look to add draft capital to start their rebuild. The Browns could trade for A.J. Green, who's in the middle of a four year deal, expiring after the 2019 season. Green will be a 31 year old free agent at that time, so he should have one big contract left in him. As with luring Le'Veon Bell away from Pittsburgh, taking the top play-maker away from a division rival has a number of advantages. The move would be costly, with at least #6 overall on the line. However, with how much young receivers struggle in this league, it could be the prudent move.
