Cat, Even if he's not a murderer, he is a rapist. During the filming of The Call of the Wild in early 1935, the film's lead actress, Loretta Young, became pregnant with Gable's child. Their daughter, Judy, was born in November 1935. Those who knew of Gable's paternity widely assumed that the pregnancy was the result of an affair. Eighty years later, Linda Lewis — Young's daughter-in-law — claimed that before her death Young told her that she had been raped by Gable, and though the two had flirted on set, there had been no affair. MY point is not directed at Gable specifically, but the Hollywood Machine to cover shit up to boost profits and provide the "illusion" of grandeur. This plays hand in hand to what we are seeing with this avalanche of sexual misconduct. This shit has been covered up since Hollywood existed. Fatty Arbuckle. Errol Flynn. Roman Polanski...
^ now that halo I give you. 100000000000% shadiness, cover-ups, sending people "away," making witnesses disappear, bribes, pay-offs etc. you name it and Hollywood did it. they are more guilty than all of the US based Mobs of making crimes go away!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roscoe_Arbuckle seems like Fatty Arbuckle got the shaft and didn't do it. the girl had a ruptured bladder and cried rape. she had her clothes ON and Doctors found no evidence of rape ! ! his was acquitted in one trial and the jury wrote a letter of apology on the 3rd trial. wow. seems like he was railroaded! to me - and this goes out to halo - the machine behind politicians, actors, actresses, sports athletes abd other key figures always has the backing of their owner or business agent or political party. much like Clark Gable, although, he seems he was innocent of killing someone as the someone didn't exist, the movie machine - MGM - will do everything they can to protect their investment. Same for athletes. When Ben Roethlisberger was being extorted for money, he didn't have Joe Blow as an attorney. He had the bet attorneys the Steelers could buy to protect their investment. I'm sure the Lakers and Kobe Bryant and his Colorado hotel rape was the same thing. PROTECT OUR INVESTMENT BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Bribes, cover-ups, evidence tampering, making witnesses vanish, etc was another means of protecting your client and investment. Not saying it's right, but especially with the dawn of movies, movie studios had to protect their big stars like Gable or else risk losing out to another movie company and their stars.
This is true and especially important back then because actors would sign deals with a movie studio and were "locked in" to those agreements. Some actors went to other studios on loan and/or would play out the contract and then sign for a competing studio. Today, actors typically just agree to do movies or franchise films. Its more like a constant free-agency. Thank Bette Davis for leading the charge of actors going FA.
I love the old classics, they were usually no more than 90 mins. I like watching them during the holidays. (that and the wjc). The acting was much more genuine and the storylines had more substance. There always seemed to be a moral to the story, these days? Morals? Lol
Cary Grant is one of my ALL-TIME favorites. His range was incredible and he delivered in comedy and drama, especially comedy. His timing was epic and he usually had a really good cast around him as well.
I recommend, if you didn't see it already, on FX- FEUD: Bette & Joan about Bette Davis and Joan Crawford with Oscar winners Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange in the roles. It's all old Hollywood. A great mini-series worth watching.

The one "classic" actor I completely disregard is Robert Mitchum. He was a really good actor, played in some unforgettable movies (Night of the Hunter, Thunder Road, Cape Fear) and had a cool persona (went to jail for weed), but he was a racist prick. He was difficult and was abusive to anyone who didn't kiss his ass on the set. I recall Robert Osborne talking about it on TCM with either Alec Baldwin or Carrie Fisher, can't remember which.

not a fan of artie lange. I was always a Jackie the "Jokeman" Martling guy on Howard Stern. But as a human being, I do hope he finds a treatment center or recovery hospice and gets the help he needs or else he will be dead .
