That's the whole point. Mayfield does all the things that are the knocks on all the other guys. Throws a beautiful ball, doesn't just read his primary and take off, reads whole field, pre-snap recognition, WINS EVERYWHERE, can throw in a phonebooth, etc, etc, etc.
Wasting your time, friend. Slappy doesn't comprehend football - I question if he even really watches it. But don't take our word for it, just ask our GM:
Slappy would run circles around you for the 10th time....I was actually agreeing w Dogside that Tebow never should have been a 1st round pick and he was a product of a Meyer system just like Miller(WR) and Barrett....we all know you are enamored w Mayfield just like you were w Kessler so your credibility is questioned w the ability to identify talent at the QB position...like I said these next couple of games will go a long way in determining the rise and fall of Mayfield..give it time before we see another Mayfield is the guy and should go #1
Apples and oranges there and I'm not even getting into it. Two facts remain: you have a critical failure of understanding the game of football and you never, ever put your name behind anyone/anything.
Just in case all of our QB experts missed it . . . Jimmy Garropolo is now 5-0 in his first 5 starts on a team that is comparable to our Browns.
To be fair... New England Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo to 49ers since they trusted them more than Browns Bill did not respect Sashi or Hue. If Browns were willing to give up a second and third for A.J. McCarron, there's no question they would have offered more for Garoppolo. Reminder that we also spent a second rounder on DeShone Kizer, broke him, and the head coach said very clearly yesterday that not only was Kizer not the guy, but that they'd be adding someone new who could be.
Let's quell our enthusiasm just a tad... Jimmy is 3-0 (which is outstanding, don't take this post the wrong way) He has helped the 49ers score 15 against the Bears, 5 FGs (whom we play on Sunday) 26 against the Texans, 4 FGs, which we only scored 17 (piss poor) 25 against the Titans, 6 FGs, which we only scored 12 (piss poor) He has 2 TDs and 2 INTs in these 3 games In the meantime, Robbie Gould has kicked 15 field goals in those 3 games...maybe THAT is who we should be targeting.. For the year the 49ers were averaging 17 points per game pre Jimmy, and are 22 points per game with him...a MARKED improvement, but another major factor in all of this is the defense.. For the year the 49ers were averaging 25.8 points per game allowed pre Jimmy, and are now averaging 17.6 with him.... Did he also start playing defense?
Browns didn't have a shot at Garoppolo this season (see linked article) and the asking price (rumored to be two firsts in 2017) was outright insane. More to the point, why does anyone think Hue Jackson is capable of doing right by any of these prospects?
I don't. I simply feel if the offense is taken away from him and put into a capable OCs hands, Hue can concentrate on being a HC and I DO believe he could manage that if he stayed out of the offenses way.
My bad . . . 5 - 0 career, 3 - 0 with the 9ers. 3 - 0 with a team that is still comparable to the 2017 Browns, including a "decent" defense on the Browns. While it can be argued he has better WR's in San Francisco, it cannot be argued he has a better O-line. Both running games are comparable (que Sammy to produce obscure stats). Up until he took over as the starter, the 9ers were on pace to contend for the #1 overall pick in the draft right along with the Browns.
Sorry, @IrishDawg42 ... didn't know which thread to respond to. I agree with you, but I don't for a minute believe a capable, highly-qualified offensive coordinator would come to Cleveland to work with "Clueless" Hue in his lame duck season. Any hire made there would almost certainly be a lackey or underling of Hue's and while that may help a little, it wouldn't yield the same results. My larger concern is that, as I've said, Hue is cancer. He embodies a lack of responsibility and that is a dangerous precedent to set. Hue has blamed everyone in that building but himself for failures - the opposite of what a good leader does. We can question his play-calling all day long (because he sucks at it) but he's even worse as a leader.
The fact that Hue may be a lame duck just might also be an incentive for a very capable OC to come to Cleveland with an opportunity to be promoted to a Head Coaching job for 2019 (or sooner).
Sorry, I don't for a second believe Hue is in a Lame Duck season...now, that doesn't mean I think he will last past 2018, but if they do not turn it around next season and Hue is in fact gone...so it every other coach on the staff. As far as a lackey/underling, I don't think Hue Jackson will even be the hiring body in this search. He wasn't a part of the Gregg Williams hire, the Haslems hired him and Hue signed off on it despite being close with Ray Horton. I believe they will utilize John Dorsey in all personnel moving forward, whether it is coaches, players or evaluation staff. In as much as it will be Dorsey's hire, I believe Haslem will make it clear to Hue to stay out of the new OC's way as far as how he runs the offense...IF that happens, the Browns have a chance to make a huge leap forward. If Haslem handcuffs Dorsey and allows Hue to make a hire on his own and doesn't police the situation, then the whole coaching regime could be gone in the 2019 off season...I don't think anyone would survive a coaching reboot.
So if the go 0-5 to start next year... Hue doesn't get canned? This seems to only add to my dysfunction within the building. Hue's over-protective of his offense and hiring someone from the outside to take that over will undoubtedly cause friction. It doesn't sound like that from this article: link.
