Didn't say progress... I said major steps. He's only started 30 games. He got blown out in his bowl game as a freshman, we'll see what happens this year. Major concern with Rosen is 60.8 career completion percentage. 62.5% was a nice uptick, but DeShone Kizer was 60.7 career completion percentage and also had a very natural arm - he just lacked so many other tools that required development that his coaching staff simply cannot give them.
So... real question, though. Darnold returns to school but all the other juniors (Rosen, Jackson, Allen, Finley) declare. The only seniors generating real buzz are Mayfield and Mason Rudolph. If you want to put Josh Rosen at No. 1 overall to Cleveland... who's the next QB off the board and where does he go? #2 - Giants #5 - Broncos #9 - Bengals #10 - Jets #11 - Redskins #12 - Cardinals #14 - Miami #16 - Chargers #22 - Bills All those teams either have pressing needs, could have pressing needs, or could be looking to draft an heir apparent.
I wonder what the Giants really think of Eli. Do they dare skip on a QB and hope that with Eli, OBJ and Barkley perhaps they can be set for success for the next few years and get a QB later?
Probably will depend a lot on the new coach and front office. Hard to imagine the relationship between player and team wasn't damaged by the benching at 210 consecutive starts - for Geno Smith, no less. If Tom Coughlin wants Eli to come to sunny Florida and play for a team boasting an elite defense and running game... wouldn't the player jump at that chance? Prudent move for New York is to hold on to him and trade him to someone else. Or worst case, act as a bridge QB for whomever they draft at No. 2 overall.
He put up 60% as a true Frosh and 23 TDs...this yr is through 11 games so give him 30 TDs over 13 games and another 500 yds
Wait... I'm confused... do stats mean dick, or naw? Mayfield (freshman): 64.1% completion, 12 TD (3.5%), 9 INT (2.6%), 289.4 YPG, 127.7 QB rating Mayfield (senior): 71.0% completion, 41 TD (11.1%), 5 INT (1.4%), 333.8 YPG, 203.8 QB rating Delta: +6.9% completion, +7.6 TD rate, -1.2 INT rate, +44.4 YPG, +76.1 QB rating Rosen (freshman): 60.0% completion, 23 TD (4.7%), 11 INT (2.3%), 282.2 YPG, 134.3 QB rating Rosen (junior): 62.5% completion, 26 TD (5.8%), 10 INT (2.2%), 337.9 YPG, 146.3 QB rating Delta: +2.5% completion, +1.1 TD rate, -0.1 INT rate, +55.7 YPG, +12.0 QB rating Mayfield was a walk-on with only one offer from a power five conference. Rosen was the No. 1 QB recruit according to most scouting services. Not sure what metric you're using, but Mayfield > Rosen every way you slice it. Most Improved = Mayfield College Production = Mayfield Mobility = Mayfield Arm Talent = Mayfield Accuracy = Mayfield Mechanics = Rosen Heisman Trophy = Mayfield College Playoffs = Mayfield College Win Rate = Mayfield Bowl Game Wins = Mayfield Starts = Mayfield So mechanics - you know, that thing coaches swear they can "coach up" and improve - is the only place you'd give an edge to Rosen. Unless there's a 6'0" brick wall and we're asking prospects to stand with their nose against it and see if they can see over the top. Not sure how that's a useful NFL metric, but whatevs.
I really think you dont understand or cant comprehend...I said stats mean d*ck for a team like the Browns...every week you would post the PFF for McCourty, Kindred, Thomas, Bitonio or whoever and every week it would be a loss...therefore stats mean d*ck for a winless football team....wins and losses is the bottom line not if an individual player ranks 4th on some BS rating.....understand now?
How gross is this? Mayfield has only lost five games in three years at Oklahoma - three on neutral sites and two at home (OSU last season and Iowa State this season). In his five losses at OU, his line: 111 of 167 (66.5%), 1,377 yards, 8 TD (4.8%), 4 INT (2.4%), 146.7 QB rating His numbers are better almost entirely than Rosen's career numbers. Mayfield has never lost on the road (non-neutral site) in his Oklahoma career and only lost one game on the road (non-neutral site) in his entire NCAA career (@Texas).
Exactly size does matter in the NFL....you can be in a great system in college...take Charlie Ward....great great college QB but would not be successful in the NFL More examples Andre Ware Ty Detmer Troy Smith Tim Tebow RG3 Johnny Manziel Lamar Jackson ? Baker Mayfield ?
I'm not comparing them in college....no doubt Mayfield won more games w a better supporting cast, but they both have 1 or 2 games left in their college career and then its w the big boys(projection matters)...Mayfield will have a chance to prove a lot of doubters wrong vs a Georgia and Clem/Bama in the same mold as Watson
Actually, it doesn't. Scouts care about whether or not a prospect can play. There's no analytical correlation between height and success. Jamies Winston Marcus Mariota Cam Newton Sam Bradford Carson Palmer Vinny Testaverde Jim Plunkett So what?
They were Heisman-winning quarterbacks. Spoiler ahead: every quarterback is a "system quarterback". Very few teams roll out the exact same playbook for every player at the position over a sustained amount of time. Spread Quarterbacks Marcus Mariota Cam Newton Deshaun Watson Dak Prescott Air Raid Quarterbacks Pat Mahomes Jared Goff Pro Style Quarterbacks Cody Kessler DeShone Kizer
So you dont think a system makes a college QB....use Hawaii w all those top notch passers during those yrs...how many played in the NFL
How’d they fare against Top 25 teams? Win/loss records? Yeah, Oklahoma runs a variant of the air raid - but Mayfield plays from the pocket, makes line calls, reads progressions, and delivers the ball accurately and timely to all levels of the field. I know you’re a little... err... “football deficient”, but Mayfield is a gifted player who happens to play in a QB-friendly system. Goff played in a more simplified version, was the number one pick, and despite you saying he wasn’t a franchise QB at the time, you’ve revised your history and said he’d be “your guy”. Not sure I get your point. Although not entirely sure you had one other than just an anti-Mayfield stance.
Timmy Chang > The WORLD! "System QBs", ok, but you cant compare Tebow does not even come close to a comparison for Mayfield. Tebow had worse mechanics than my 13 yr old and was just a FB that could kinda get the ball to the guys that were just flat out faster than everyone else and wide open. Tebow should go to all of his coaches that he has ever had and slap them for just using his combination of size and athleticism just to win.
