Where Do We Go From Here?

  1. Also not many see GB as a playoff contender w/out AR under center

Which one(s) soft, McFadden or James? Both? After looking over the "wish list" on the previous page, I just wouldn't count on any of the top 3 DBs to be available at #35 or later.

  3. Derwin is a beast...McFadden is soft, overrated and should be a day 2 or day 3 guy

I think some of that will boil down to how you use them. I see James as a SS/FS hybrid (which we have in Jabrill Peppers) versus Fitzpatrick as more of an FS/CB hybrid.

I almost mocked James here as Dorsey does favor the size/speed combinations - rely on coaches to refine the skills that you can't teach - but ultimately chose Fitz due to the ability to play center-field. Either way, both should be available at No. 6 overall for them to take.

  5. Derwin is definitely at his best near the box and blitzing...he is a great blitzer and worked w the DE's a lot on his moves

    From Bleacher Report:

Browns walk out of the first round with the future franchise QB (will be Mayfield, not Rosen) and Barkley? Lord sakes.

  7. Sorry to burst your bubble but Mayfield will not go #1

Andrew Brandt said the same thing this morning... Josh Dorsey is "very well-respected" among NFL agents.

The Browns don't need to go crazy, but a few key signings in free agency can really have a major impact this upcoming season. You add a starter at cornerback (Trumaine Johnson, Malcolm Butler, Morris Claiborne) and wide receiver (Allen Robinson, Terrelle Pryor, Jarvis Landry) and a veteran QB (McCarron, Bradford, Fitzpatrick) to keep the seat warm for the incoming rookie? That has the makings of a very solid free agency period.

Also, addressing WR and CB with younger, starting-caliber players can free up draft capital and allow the team to make a major move (as they did last season with three first round picks).

    Free Agency:
    • Terrelle Pryor: 4-year, $40 million, $20 million guaranteed
    • Trumaine Johnson: 3-year, $45 million, $25 million guaranteed
    • A.J. McCarron: 3-year, $36 million, $18 million guaranteed
If, as Jimmy Halsam insists, Hue Jackson and his staff are back, you give Al Saunders Terrelle Pryor back. You give Gregg Williams a former standout corner and you give the head coach his prodigal son. You also fill two massive needs in WR and CB.

    In the Draft:
    • #1 - Baker Mayfield, QB (sits and doesn't see the field as a rookie)
    • #6 - Saquon Barkley, RB
    • #21 - Roquan Smith, LB (trade Houston/Philly picks in the second to get back into R1)
    • #33 - Josh Jackson, CB/FS
    • #65 - Jamarco Jones, OT
Browns still will have two fourths, two fifths, a sixth, and a seventh to fill out the roster with contributors/situational players. You grab three starters in Barkley, Smith, and Jackson - the latter of which allows Jabrill Peppers to move back to his natural position.

    Opening Day Roster:

    Offense
    • QB: A.J. McCarron, DeShone Kizer, Baker Mayfield
    • RB: Saquon Barkley, Duke Johnson Jr., Matt Dayes
    • FB: Danny Vitale
    • WR(Z): Josh Gordon, Ricardo Louis
    • WR(X): Terrelle Pryor, 2018 draft pick
    • WR(Y): Corey Coleman, Rashard Higgins
    • TE: David Njoku, Seth DeValve, 2018 draft pick
    • LT: Joe Thomas, Jamarco Jones
    • LG: Joel Bitonio, Spencer Drango
    • C: J.C. Tretter
    • RG: Kevin Zeitler, Marcus Martin
    • RT: Shon Coleman, Zach Banner
    Defense
    • LDE: Emmanuel Ogbah, Carl Nassib
    • DT1: Danny Shelton, Larry Ogunjobi
    • DT3: Caleb Brantley, Jamie Meder, 2018 draft pick
    • RDE: Myles Garrett, 2018 draft pick
    • LOLB: Chris Kirksey, 2018 draft pick
    • MLB: Roquan Smith, Joe Schobert
    • ROLB: Jamie Collins, Jamie Burgess
    • LCB: Jason McCourty, Howard Wilson
    • RCB: Trumaine Johnson, Jamar Taylor
    • NCB: Briean Boddy-Calhoun
    • FS: Josh Jackson, Kai Nacua
    • SS: Jabrill Peppers, Derrick Kindred
    Special Teams
    • K: Zane Gonzalez
    • P: Britton Colquitt
    • KR: Matt Dayes, 2018 draft pick (WR)
    • PR: Jabill Peppers, Duke Johnson Jr.
    • LS: Charlie Hughlett

I think I'd have to go Davante Adams, Jarvis Landry, Paul Richardson or Allen Robinson at wide receiver. Or make an RFA offer to Tyrell Williams.

At corner I like Malcom Butler or Kyle Fuller.

At quarterback I think I'd rather have a guy that was a clear transition QB without starter aspirations who has game experience and can help a young player. I don't think that fits McCarron although I'm guessing you chose him because of the relationship with Hue. I'd rather have Henne, Matt Moore or Gabbert to help groom a youngster.

Don't disagree at all. I was putting the free agents in place based off what we know today - that Hue Jackson and his staff are returning. Landry would be my top pick but Pryor has the history and will come more cheaply.

Fuller would be nice - young guy who's bounced back from injury.

Yep. I think Hue has called his shot on McCarron.

McCown would have been the perfect guy for that. I assume he's not coming back (although he will be a free agent).

Regardless of the name, Dorsey has been around franchises that (once identifying their guy) sat rookies behind a veteran. Obviously, we don't have a veteran here so Dorsey will have to go out and find one. I don't think there's a world in existence that has the Browns not taking a QB in the first round this year.

Wouldn't happen because of the bad history, but a pending free agent veteran QB who would perfectly fit Hue Jackson's system, could be a starter but is better suited as a bridge guy is an old familiar face...

If we secure the #1 pick and select Rosen, I don't think it's gonna be a situation where he sits for a year. Especially if Hue Jackson is still calling the shots. Kizer will have a full year under his belt, albeit possibly a winless one. I'm not certain that Cleveland will go spend a ton on a "bridge" QB. I guess it depends on how much confidence they have in Deshone Kizer.....Based on his relationship with our new GM, Alex Smith would IMO be the likely candidate, if we are going to go get an expensive F/A QB to "hold it down" until Rosen gets up to speed...Personally I'd be surprised if this happened, but it would be a hell of an upgrade over our current situation. That would actually give us two QB's on the roster that were the #1 overall pick of their respectiive draft class, and Kizer...That would immediately put the Browns as one of the better QB situations in the NFL, wouldn't it?...And then pigs would fly.

Now we will get the revisionist history from all sources saying how bad a signing it was at the time. It wasn't. He was basically the best available when Pryor balked at his same contract. He got paid and proportionately lazy.

Josh Dorsey about to make his mark on this place.

    Hopefully Hue is next.
