Actually, Manziel completed 72.9% of his passes from the pocket his final season at TAMU and 68.8% the year prior - best among draft-eligible QBs that year. I still believe most would plant Manziel's failures at the next level on drug addiction and personal choices versus his physical ability. Mayfield currently has 71.4% completion percentage overall, 82.6% adjusted completion percentage, and 78.7% from the pocket (although that number was not provided by PFF.com where the others came from). Remember, Manziel was a career 68.9% passer - good for 9th all time. Mayfield is currently right behind him at 10th and 68.7% overall (he's 70.1% at Oklahoma).
How do you feel about Eli Manning. Seems things are heating up in the Meadowlands Stadium, and Eli's opted out of starting after the coach proposed he split time with Gino Smith and Webb. He's more likely to go to Jacksonville, though with Coughlin there.
He wouldn't solve the "veteran QB" issue that we currently face? The only veteran that "solves and issue" is Kirk Cousins. Short of signing him, this roster needs a veteran in the QB room. Eli Manning has won (2) Super Bowls. So, despite diminishing skills, he has been there done that and would bring a wealth of knowledge to the table. This could come down to a "Manning" takeover. If Haslem really is in trouble with the Pilot scandal, Jimmy might want some people on the inside that he trusts to help Dee out while he's away. What better family than the Mannings? I don't think for a minute that Peyton would discredit the need for veteran leadership in the locker room. With his brother on the outs and in need of a landing spot, why not offer both Peyton and Eli, hell maybe even Archie, a small piece of the minority ownership pie?
I think you can find any vet for that....I dont think Eli will come to mentor a Kizer when he probably feels he can still play
Oh yeah, so you are putting your 2018 in the hands of Kizer then...that's a statement, not a question. If you get any old vet for that, then the vet is there for backup and QB room, not to compete. As for Eli, it would be a huge blow to the ego to get benched for Geno freaking Smith. I could/would argue that Josh Gordon and Corey Coleman are an upgrade at what he has had to deal with on the Giants since the injury bug plagued his receiving corps. Same goes for the offensive lines. The ace in the hole would have to be in the form of Peyton Manning having the inside track to explaining what they are going to spend $100M in salary cap room and 12 draft picks on to improve the offense even more for him. I wouldn't expect any type of discount, you would have to pay his market value, but if minority ownership was offered to Peyton, then I would fully expect brother Eli to strongly consider playing on the team that his brother will give him every opportunity to continue playing out his career. He gets no such guarantees from any other team (*see Giants bench Eli Manning for Geno Smith). In order for this to happen, the Giants would have to release/trade Eli which means agreeing to eat $12.8M in dead cap space. His contract is actually trade-able though for someone like the Browns at: 2018 $16M 2019 $17M At 36, this would simply give Eli an opportunity to ride off into the sunset for a team for 2 years of this contract. I believe he retires at 38. It gives him a chance to turn around one of the most storied franchises in the NFL which could make him a Legend in Cleveland, while giving this team an opportunity to groom a QB to take over in 2020. He would have a front office job (possibly minority ownership) waiting for him when he does retire from playing. It is really a win win for every one involved, except in my personal opinion...The Giants
I know this all sounds good to be in the front office, minority owner, etc but why would they choose the Browns....a dysfunctional organization for many yrs....also I said a Kizer meaning a young QB...you don't think Eli is better than Kizer? I know he's washed up but that kid stinks
Pretty simple, there probably isn't another franchise looking to offer that. Haslem is close family friends with the Mannings and Jimmy has openly said he would love to do something with Peyton someday. Well. someday could be here sooner than later.... I think I clearly stated I think Eli would be a better option than Kizer, I don't know what you are talking about there...
Evaluating Baker Mayfield Long read, but worth it. He's moved firmly into my No. 1 overall prospect spot in this upcoming draft. The Browns will regret passing on him for a lesser (Rosen, Darnold) option.
It's amazing how we don't learn from history. If Mayfield measured even 6'2" at the Combine, he'd be the first overall pick. He'll measure a shade over 6'0" and some team is going to hit a home run in the mid-20's on this guy.
There were more designed runs for Watson and scramble type throws.....Mayfield is a more conventional QB that can run if needed.....Im still skeptical on him being a productive NFL QB and still have Rosen the clear cut #1
F that...I'm all in on Mayfield. Since I've declared it, I want him #1 overall. I'm not giving some new found GM (there's bound to be one at the top with all the losing teams) that wants to put his reputation on him and miss out on him. I'm done, finished, moving on to the Texans pick.... #1 overall, Baker Mayfield, QB Oklahoma...the only thing that can ruin it at this point is if the Browns reel off 4 wins and lose the top pick...That would be a GREAT dilemma to have. Now...Currently the Texans are #7...soo... In no particular order, the six guys I would have laid out to take at #7 are as follows: Minkah Fitzpatrick FS, Alabama Saquon Barkley RB, Penn State Derwin James FS, Florida State Calvin Ridley WR, Alabama Arden Key DE, LSU Actually, I'll stop right there, because I have NO DOUBT one of these players will be there at #7....probably 3-4 will still be on the board, unless Darden AND Rosen stay in school...
Quick look at things - Cleveland - 0-12 NY Giants - 2-10 San Francisco - 2-10 Denver - 3-9 Indianapolis - 3-9 Chicago - 3-9 Cleveland (from HOU) - 4-8 Tampa Bay - 4-8 Cincinnati - 5-7 Arizona - 5-7 NY Jets - 5-7 Right now, the 49ers, the Buccaneers, the Jets and Cincy would probably be the 4 teams to watch in the W/L columns. If New York and Arizona continue to lose while the other 3 add one or two wins to their record it could bump the Cards and Jets into better spots for upward mobility. If San Fran wins a couple and paces themselves out of that spot it would really make a solid situation for a bidding war with the Colts and the Bears for the Jets or Cards to try and get ahead/stay ahead of each other. You could see a wild scenario where desperation drives the picks at the top, with the result being the top 4 picks all go quarterback. That's something that would be ideal for the Browns getting top 5 talent to slide down to 7.
Reminder: if any other team drafting in the Top 10 took one of these players, they're already starting their draft off with an A+ grade. Browns could come away with one of them and the best QB prospect since Russell Wilson (spoiler ahead: Wilson > Wentz > Luck). Maybe the plan is working?
