Vikings considering IR for Sam Bradford while activating Teddy Bridgewater The Vikings had until tomorrow to activate quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to the 53-man roster, and that’s going to happen. But according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, that roster spot could come from another quarterback, as the Vikings are trying to determine if Sam Bradford is going on injured reserve. Bradford has played just two games this year because of knee problems, but they had previously expressed optimism that his problem might not be season-ending. Mortensen also notes that Case Keenum is expected to start again this week against Washington, though Bridgewater is close to being ready to play again.
Report: Sam Bradford had knee surgery Tuesday as team mulls IR decision Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford has played just one half of football since injuring his left knee in Minnesota’s season opener against the New Orleans Saints. Seven weeks have elapsed since with the knee continuing to be a significant issue for Bradford, so much so that he had arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday to address it. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, Bradford had a “clean up” procedure on his knee done by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. The surgery addressed a bone spur, loose particles and cartilage issues in the knee. With Teddy Bridgewater set to return to the roster, the Vikings are considering putting Bradford on injured reserve. The move would clear the necessary space needed for Bridgewater’s return, but would also force Bradford to miss at least eight weeks. Bradford was terrific in the opener against New Orleans, completing 27 of 32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns.
Adam Thielen matches Randy Moss through 10 games If you think Vikings receiver Adam Thielen isn’t the real deal, think again. Thielen’s six-reception, 123-yard day gives him 62 catches for 916 yards on the season. And that puts him in select company over the entire course of franchise history. Only Randy Moss, once in 2003, caught 60 or more passes for 900 or more yards through the first 10 games of a season. No other receiver in franchise history accomplished that, including Moss in any of his other six years with the team. Thielen, undrafted and uninvited to the Scouting Combine, continues to defy doubters and secure fans as he churns out strong performance after strong performance. He has six games of 96 or more receiving yards, and he has emerged as the favorite target of quarterback Case Keenum.
He does keep doing this game after game proving he is the real deal..last year and this year got to be IMPRESSED I am
From the BIG BALLS, files... After quarterback Case Keenum directed the Vikings to another win against the Rams last Sunday, coach Mike Zimmer said it will be “hard to yank” Keenum out of the lineup after a couple of weeks filled with discussion about whether Teddy Bridgewater might get a look with the starting offense. That wasn’t quite confirmation that Keenum would be starting against the Lions on Thanksgiving, but it didn’t leave much room or rationale for any other decision. Zimmer went ahead and confirmed it on Tuesday along with a fairly explicit reason why he likes what Keenum brings to the offense. “The thing I like about Case is he’s got big balls,” Zimmer said, via Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Coincidentally or not, Keenum also has the Vikings on a six-game winning streak while playing the best football of his career. That should probably make weekly announcements that he’s the starter in Minneapolis a moot point, unless, of course, Zimmer’s going to continue to be so revelatory when he makes them.
Well I kinda agree he does have big balls, always throwing the ball downfield no more of the damn dink and dunk..and this game against the Lions is for the DIV.
For the second straight year, the Vikings will be playing the Lions on Thanksgiving. When the road team shows up for the game, it will have all of its players on the field, most likely. The final report has only three players listed as questionable: tackle Mike Remmers (concussion), safety Andrew Sendejo (groin/hamstring), and defensive end Brian Robison (back). Five other Vikings appeared on the injury report throughout the week, but each (headlined by cornerback Xavier Rhodes, with a calf injury, and defensive end Everson Griffen, who has a foot injury) have no designation on the final report in advance of the Week 12 showdown between the 8-2 Vikings and 6-4 Lions.
Vikings hang on to beat the Lions, for their seventh straight win For all the talk about quarterback Case Keenum — and there should be plenty — the Vikings won this one they way they anticipated. In the end, it was the defense making plays when needed, as they hung on for a 30-23 win over the Lions. Cornerback Xavier Rhodes intercepted Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford to seal the game, after the Vikings let the Lions hang around far too long. They led 27-10 after the first possession of the second half, but Stafford kept them in the game, despite getting his right ankle rolled and re-taped and stayed in the game late. But there was no comeback Thursday, with Rhodes making the play to allow them to kill enough time. The win was the seventh straight for the Vikings (9-2), keeping them on pace for a top-two seed in the NFC playoffs. The NFC North is a foregone conclusion, as they’re three up on the Lions (6-5) with five to play. Keenum was 21-of-30 for 282 yards and two touchdowns, and no one will be asking about his hold on the starting job (for a week anyway). Wide receiver Adam Thielen had eight catches for 89 yards, pushing him over 1,000 yards for the season.
Nice win by the Vikings by slamming the door shut, what was with ref's in this game?..hope you had fantastic turkey day mine was interesting but the Vikings 30 Lions 23 it looks like the Vikings are NFL North Champs
I wish they wouldn't stop with this SB talk it needs to slow its roll, there are games left to play and the playoffs have yet to start
Congrats Viking fans. You've got a serious contender...What a helluva find in Case Keenum. He has earned the #1 spot in Minnesota and I hope his performance silences any talk of replacing him with Bridgwater....Where the hell was this offensive approach when Pat Shurmur was in Cleveland? My goodness he has changed. No longer the boring offense like he ran with the Rams and Browns. I wanted to light my eyes on fire when I watched those offenses...Evidently Shurmur has learned from past mistakes. No doubt having the Minnesota personnel helps matters. The Vikings are creative, balanced and fun to watch. I never thought I'd say this about Shurmur, but that gameplan on Thanksgiving was a thing of beauty, and he's been on a roll all year...
Thanks, Dawg. I appreciate the observations and you are right on target. Shurmur has called a good game plan and I think whats different now is he has the weapons to do what he wants. I still cant believe how good Thielen has been and Case Keenum. The run game is back to and a lot of that plays into the fact the O-line is revamped and playing very well. Its fun to watch the war in the trenches and see the Vikings move people off the ball... that has been missing for a long time. Very well balanced indeed with a defense to boot. I'm really enjoying this season like none in a long time. Hope they stay healthy and continue to roll. I'm imagining a Eagles and Vikings NFC Championship game... wow, wouldn't that be fun?
Thielen has been incredible...I'm mad I didn't get him on any of my fantasy teams. Dude is awesome...I'm lookin forward to the stretch run in the NFC this year. Eagles and Vikings very well could be on a collision course. That would be a good one....I guarantee they don't want to have to go to Minnesota to play it either.
The disaster that was last year and this year has been like night and day,it has helped big time they been healthy Adam Thielen has been AWESOME!!!! just so glad they dumped the dink and dunk
